Along with Rosefield Simmentals we would like to welcome you all to our 8th Annual North Country Ranchland Bull Sale. First, another huge thank you to all of you who have supported us in the past by purchasing, bidding, and showing interest in the past 8 years! 2020 will be a year none of us will soon forget. But especially during these times, us in the ranching industry were not affected by things near as much as other industries and businesses around us. The fall calf run pricing was good and seedstock sales are up and promising, so our industry is still doing well and flowing with lots of optimism.

Reflecting back 2020 has been another great year for us filled with lots of great times living on and enjoying our ranch! The year started with a normal average calving season. Spring was great and crops all got seeded in good time. Then spring turned wet so apart from staying out of the mud made for an excellent summer of great hay crops and excellent pastures. We were blessed with another excellent calf crop with great weaning weights. Both on our commercial herd in the fall as well as great weaning weights on our bull calves. Sarah and I have been continuing to enjoy the adventures that come with raising our family on the ranch. This year’s group of bulls is another diverse set of bulls with something for everybody! There is a great selection of Fleckvieh bulls, red bulls, and black bulls. This year again we are pleased to offer both some red and black bulls that I feel reasonably confident in recommending to you as heifer bulls. We also have a great selection of cow bulls along with another group of some Angus/ Simmental crossbreds. Take a look, you won’t be disappointed! They are an extraordinarily strong set of bulls with exceptional performance mostly weaning well into to 800 and 900lbs. Our bulls are continually raised in ranch like conditions. We start calving the beginning of February and the cows spend most of the summer on crown grazing land. Our bulls are not crepe fed and fed a modest TMR silage ration after weaning. Our goal is to continually provide our costumers with sound bulls that will work hard and last. We know that buying your next herd bull is a serious investment. Our goal is not just to sell you one bull one time, but we want to build a long-term relationship of trust with you, our customers. We stand behind our bulls so if you are dissatisfied, we would like to know what we can do for you! If you are ever in the area, stop in, the coffee is always on! Karizma is another very exciting addition to our herd! We purchased him from Dan Skeeles in the 2019 Genetic Edge Bull Sale where he was one of the top bulls. He is a very deep bodied thick bull with very flashy eye appeal. He is also very friendly and easy to handle. This is the first group of calves we have from him and they are no disappointment. They are a very sound set of flashy bulls that have proven to be loaded with performance. The females coming up in the replacement pen are also a very flashy set of the top end heifers. I am very excited to see them grow into cows and start their own legacy’s in our herd. BW

Henry is a very fancy Karizma son who will not disappoint. Henry is a thick deep bodied bull who has been a standout from early on. You cannot walk through the bull pen without noticing Henry. He is a twin and when he was born, we were disappointed that being a twin and having to share his cow for a bit with his sister he would maybe not become the outstanding bull that if he had been a single, but we should not have worried! He is a bull that we have very seriously considered retaining as a future herd sire in our herd. His mother is a larger framed fleckvieh cow who never disappoints us whether she brings home a great heifer for the replacement pen or great bull for the bull pen. Her last years bull was the top preforming bull of our pen for 2020 which sold to Jackie Thiessen. Herd bull time!

Harley is a very flashy dark red well pigmented bull with lots of thickness and great length of spine. He is loaded with performance! His Dam is sired by our Raspatuion ZDS 196A bull who goes back to Virginia Maximus and then to Champs Romano. Raspatuion is a bull who slightly reduces frame height but increases performance by adding depth. We have never owned a bull who covers as many cows as our old Raspatuion bull! He is now our oldest herd sire and even with a chronic shoulder injury from a fight that limits use of his one front foot he still covers as many cows as any other bull. Harley should get the job done!

Earthquake is a herd sire we purchased from Anchor D in their 2017 Genetic Edge Bull Sale. He is a direct ALLM COLOSSAL 25U son. He was one of the top bulls in their 2017 offering and its easy to see why! He is my favorite of all the bulls we have ever owned so far. He is a very thick bodied bull who carries exceptional thickness through his top line which carries way down into his hindquarters. He is slightly smaller framed and very well balanced with great pigmentation and eye appeal. He is a pleasure to handle and is extremely quiet; despite being a 2400 lb bull you can touch out in the pen he is very respectful. This is the third group of calves we have from him and we are very pleased with his bull calves and the heifers we have in our replacement pen. His first daughters are now young cows. They are a great set of maternal females with great udders and sound feet and they all come with the same pleasurable attitude as their sire. BW

His mother goes back to our old Halfway River Annette cow which left probably the strongest track records of any of our cows is in our herd. Pair that with Earthquake on the sire side and you have something a little extra special. Length, thickness and loads of muscle in a performance loaded package. Hardy is a very thick well muscled shorter framed bull. He should reduce frame size and moderate birth weight with out loosing muscle or performance. His mother goes back to the great Viper bull and she was an almost picture-perfect heifer. Sadly, we lost her shortly after calving so Hardy was raised by a foster cow. Do not overlook Hardy! (This is also an older advertising picture).

Hank is the first calf from a first calf heifer. If this is what his mother, an exceptional heifer going back to Dirty Hairy and Bar 5 Evan can do with her first calf I am excited to see what else there is to come from her! Hank has always been one of my favorites since the day he was born and always a calf that stood out all summer. Hatchet is another Guerrero son raised by a first calf heifer. He is another bull that we have really grown to appreciate. He is long bodied, thick, broad topped, bull with a very fancy dark red paint job. His mother, HYS 90F is from another one of our best cow families that have built a legacy for themselves. They have brought in many top end bull calves for the bull pen including HYS 544H listed earlier. They are also one of our most trusted maternal cow families known for their excellent conformation, friendly disposition and good udders and sound structure. Hatchet is an excellent choice for some second calvers or young cows for easy calving but not giving up great calves that will preform and make great replacements.

Huckle is a very complete bull with great length, thickness, and a broad top in a polled package. He has lots of hair and a great disposition. We tried out a new to us AI bull, “War Paint” last year and Huckle is one of these calves. All the War Paint calves including Huckle have been standouts from birth with excellent conformation and excellent growth. Holland is another AI calf from War Paint. He is a very complete bull who is hard to fault on anything. He was one of my favorite calves all summer long that always stuck out on the pasture weaning at over 900 lbs. These bulls are all pail fed a moderate grain ration consisting of barley, peas, and oats; they are also fed free choice good quality hay and silage. Our goal is to sell bulls that will go out and work hard for you for many years to come, bulls that are not overfed or pushed to hard, bulls that will put the extra pounds into their offspring come weaning time. Anyone who has been following the past calf sales will have noticed that the heavy weight calves were bringing in the best dollar per head, so in order to crank up the weaning weights on your calves we would suggest to breed your cows to a Fleckvieh influenced bull.

We will be selling a select group of commercial heifers at the sale again; these heifers would make a great addition to any cattleman’s herd. They are all up to date with their vaccinations and will be palpated by a veterinarian prior to the sale. Due to the ongoing Covid pandemic regulations we encourage you to view the bulls and heifers on our farm prior to the sale or at VJV in Dawson Creek the day before the sale. We bought Envoy as a two year old at Lone Stone Farms bull sale in Westlock, Alberta. He is a long, thick, polled bull. We wanted to be able to raise some polled Fleckvieh bulls without losing performance, and it looks like he is doing exactly that.

BEE Raid 312C “Raid”

Raid has turned into a big and powerful meat machine! His calves are long, just like him, and are usually colored very well. Raid is from the Beechinor’s herd and his dam has raised bulls that they have sold in their annual bull sales.

Rendezvous Galba 60A Galba is an AI sire that we have been using on some of our top end fullblood cows and we are very happy with the results; we have noticed that his calves are quite and easy to work with. Our top replacement heifers are sired by Galba and his bull calves stand out in the pen. We have a couple of bulls in the sale this year that are sired by “Galba”. He is an AI sire that we’ve used for a few years now. We are very pleased with the temperament, muscle shape, and performance that he is passing onto his calves. 2206G is a very heavily muscled bull that was born at the end of December. He’s out of a good producing cow that we purchased at Willow Creek Simmental female sale. This bull is not only easy to look at, but has a little extra age, which should allow him to cover a few extra cows in the spring. I believe he will add that extra muscle to his offspring.

Here is another bull sired by Galba and like I mentioned earlier this bull really adds muscle and maturity. We also ended up with a couple of heifer calves out of Galba and they really stand out in the replacement pen with their natural thickness and unique style. This Raid bull has been a standout from a very young age. He is out of a big thick cow that we bought from Beechinors a few years ago. This bull has a little extra birth weight, but when you see his big powerful dam then you will know that his birth weight is totally in perspective. Raid is a deep bodied, long spined bull that I feel will not be a hard calving bull at all. The sire to Stingray is BEE 312C “Raid”, who is no stranger to anyone who has been following our sale for the past three years. We have sold several “Raid” sons through our sale over the years, and as his daughters are maturing and producing, we are reminded each year of why some of our best registered cows need to run with him in the spring. His calves are marked well and have excellent performance. His females are gentle and are heavy milkers. Stingrays dam is a very thick cow that has a perfect udder. We went down to the Western Harvest sale in Innisfail last December and bought a heifer from the Eagle Ridge Simmentals herd. She was bred to a calving ease fleck bull and we ended up with this very smooth fronted, polled, dark red, goggle eyed bull. He’s the friendliest guy in the pen and always wants a scratch. Admiral looks like he should calve smoothly, and with his dam going back to Anchor T Impact there should be a lot of performance in his calves.

Hugh is the youngest bull in the pen and usually our youngest bulls get cut from the sale due to their age, but because of how quickly this bull is catching up and how well he is developing I decided to put him in the sale. Hugh’s dam is a very thick “Sting” sired cow who is cherry red with big goggles. I think this is one of the best built bulls in our bull pen. Hugh would be a good choice for someone to use on fullblood cows, and should raise some good seed stock.

Here is a horned bull that is loaded up with lots of good Fleckvieh genetics. His dam is a direct “Crossroads Radium” daughter who is out of a FGAF Magnum cow we bought from Beechinors several years ago. I feel this bull would be a good pick to put in with a group of young, maybe second calving cows; as there is a lot of calving ease bred into this bull. We have used Rolex in our AI program quite a bit and the females calved smoothly. A few years back I kept a Rolex son for myself and tried him on some heifers and found that they calved great.

Rosefield Haldor is an AI son out of a big thick cow that we bought years ago at Moose Creek Simmentals herd dispersal sale. This cow has had many bulls come through our sale over the years. At 11 years old this cow still has a perfect bag. The sire, “Double Bar D Haldor” is a very good-looking Fleck bull that has 9.6 for calving ease. I believe this bull will develop well and be a long spined animal with lots of muscle and eye appeal.

Last December we bought some black females at Skors Simmentals complete herd dispersal sale in Innisfail, Alberta. 291H Rosefield Tanker is the son to one of these females and is a TNT Tanker son that we are very happy with. He was the heaviest calf at weaning, coming in at over 900 pounds. This bull shows lots of body length and walks out very freely. This bull should take all the horns off his calves and should sire a set of really good calves.

For the last fifteen years we have been focusing very hard to raise Flechvieh bulls with red goggle-eyed faces, and every year more and more calves are coming with good pigment on their faces; Radius is a prime example of what we are striving for as far as color goes. This bull has many generations of dark red color behind him, both on the dam and sire side. Hestons dam has about as perfect an udder as you could ask for.
