14th Annual Pasture Treasures Female Sale Welcome to this year’s edition of Pasture Treasures Female Sale. This is our largest group of females we have ever sold, and without question the deepest group in quality from top to bottom we have ever produced. You will notice when looking through this year’s selection, absolutely every herd sire will be represented either in offspring, services or a semen lot. Another feature we are extremely proud of is we did something different this year and absolutely every heifer we offer with the exception of the black heifers went through the AI pen. These heifers are not only bred to proven calving ease bulls, but bulls that will add value to their progeny. All heifers were Ultra Sounded 28 – 60 days of pregnancy so we are very confident of the breeding information, as well as they will all be redone prior to the sale to ensure they are settled. This is a year that has been trying for many, but I encourage you to look ahead as to what is in store. We have seen large numbers of cows hitting the local sale barns across the prairies. If there was ever a time to re-invest in our future it’s now. I am pretty confident in saying next year’s cow market will be crazy good. As the Canadian cow herd will be significantly down in numbers. Be prepared to see record prices when the rebuild begins, and next fall’s calf market could be the highest we have seen for a long time. The cards have been dealt, and whoever stays in the game is in for a large payday. As I mentioned in the beginning the quality in this year’s class runs deep. We appreciate that selections could be a bit pickier based on numbers that will hit the marketplace, so we felt we needed to go even deeper than ever before to bring you the best. Have confidence in knowing there is not a single female in this sale we wouldn’t be proud of retaining for our own herd. If we don’t feel they deserve to be in our herd, we certainly don’t feel they belong in yours then either. Make your selections with the greatest of confidence that a lot of thought, and dedication has went into this selection. We have changed up the catalogue a bit this year listing them by age, as well we broke Mackenzie and Garren’s heifers out to give them a bit more profile for their own breeding programs. We are also very pleased to welcome a small group of guest consignors again this year. We have the utmost confidence in these breeding programs as well, as they are tremendous people with a vision to only bring the best to represent their programs as well. Another great added feature for this year’s event is the fact that we will not be a standalone event. The Evolution Sale, hosted at Black Gold Simmentals, will take place the day before our sale. Certainly for anyone traveling a distance be sure to take advantage of that as between these two sales we will have accumulated some top quality genetics for your appraisal. As most of you know I spend a lot of time at a commercial market. The #1 criteria there is quality, regardless of breed or color. If they are the right cattle they have the potential on any given day to top the market. When we were bull shopping this past spring our needs were simple. We simply wanted the best bulls that suited our program, to offer our commercial bull customers the best option in the future. We made the decision to add “Creed” into our bull battery last spring. This is a bull that boasts a powerful pedigree, and traces back to a couple amazing cow families. “Creed” is a bull we were drawn to because of his tremendous length, thickness and muscle shape. He has fantastic foot structure, testicular development and overall eye appeal. For us it’s just a bonus of him being polled as first and foremost he is the right bull for our program. He certainly created quite a buzz this past spring and we anxiously await his first calf crop. We will offer two lots of 5 straws each, with the opportunity for the purchaser to purchase additional semen at a $50/ straw discount from the original purchase price. Semen will be Canada and USA qualified and stored at Alta Genetics. This will be the only semen marketed on him for 2022 breeding season.

We were in the need for a few new bulls last spring, and “Bowman” has certainly turned into a family favorite. We spotted him last fall and the whole family liked him, but honestly he wasn’t the bull we were looking at this spring. When we went and looked the night before the sale, he became the mutual consensus on the bull we should try to own. He worked a big pen this spring, doing a great job and maintaining his condition in the process. He is an absolute pleasure to work with, and Garren thought he would be pretty cool to show, so after he was done breeding we halter broke him. He was fortunate enough to be named Champion Yearling Bull and Supreme Champion Bull at the AYCSA show. This is a bull with a tremendous disposition, large sound foot structure, great athleticism and movement, easy fleshing and great muscle structure. We feel as though he is going to combine both growth and calving ease, and is stacked with a superb pedigree as well. Same story as the other bulls in this will be the only semen offered for the 2022 breeding season, offered in two lots of 5 straws with the opportunity to purchase additional semen at a $50/ straw discount from the original purchase price. We felt as though we would offer semen on “Radioactive” once again this year. Last year’s semen all went to the USA selling to Simmentals of Texas & Little Creek in Mississippi. The semen we have sold in the past has only gone to a couple homes, so it certainly adds value in still remaining somewhat exclusive. “Radioactive” did a fantastic job for us in the short period of time we owned him. We now have his first daughters in production and we are very impressed. Garren showed a daughter of his this year at the AYCSA show, where she was named Champion Bred and Owned Female. They have great udders, solid footed, moderate framed, easy fleshing and tremendously docile dispositions. All that while combining calving ease and adding the polled factor. As you can see we only offered one female from him this year, as we wanted to retain a few more for ourselves. For those of you who really research pedigrees, I’m honestly not sure if we have another female that boasts a stacked pedigree quite like “Gloria”. There are too many big name cows and bulls in this pedigree to even begin. If you typically don’t research them, I encourage you to do so on this one it’s pretty cool. We were given the opportunity to purchase the mature cow herd from Rocking R a few years ago, and the dam of “Gloria” was one of the jewels in the mix. This is a great young cow and as you can tell by my comments already she has an impeccable pedigree. The “Precision” daughters we have producing are just straight goods. Very honest cows that will moderate birth weight but still supply lots of growth. A very nice female here that will be very easy to find a big list of bulls that would work with her. Well I went against my own rules in saying we weren’t going to sell anymore “Barbossa” daughters. “Gabrielle” has a very unique and somewhat outcrossed pedigree for us, as she is off of our only “Roonik” cow. Her dam was a big robust broody female that was always in mint condition. The “Barbossa” daughters we have are undeniably some of our very best producers. They maybe aren’t always the first cows you notice, but you do notice them come weaning time when they bring in a monster calf. She has been a nice producer for us, and offers a whole different twist of pedigree for our program. “Heddie” is an average sized female who is extremely capacious, wide topped, and very well balanced. Look to these “Aegon” daughters to add foot structure, ease of fleshing and nice udder attachment. A little plainer colored but don’t overlook her she is plumb good and very tough to find a flaw in. “Honna” is a pretty cool heifer. Her young “French Attack” dam is pretty special, and her “Barbossa” grand dam has already made a mark for herself producing a few front end bulls in the sale, including “Disco” who worked for Yellow Rose / Hampton Simmentals and now finds his home at Virginia Ranch. We don’t have an abundance of “Precision” daughters in this year’s sale. I know the ones we have in our own program we really really like, and are fabulous producers. “Hallie” is an own daughter of the great “Kael” cow who was a former high seller in this sale, purchased by Canadian Donors. She has done a tremendous job for us and many others through embryo sales. “Hallie” is her natural calf sired by non-other than “Rogant”. The power of this female is second to none, she has her dam’s picture perfect udder, and the same angularity and broodiness. This female is raw power and will do great things for the breed in her time. No doubt in my mind she could easily find her way into someone’s donor pen in the future. The breeding to “Radioactive” could prove to be an absolute masterpiece. Not much you would want to change here, pretty tough not to appreciate this one. The dam of “Pacifica” is a been there done that kind of cow. She is a past high seller of this sale selling to our good friends Pacific Cattle Co in Australia. As she is on shares with us, every one of her offspring has been sold through the sale. Regardless of it being a heifer or bull her offspring has always been found near the top end of the sale. “Pacifica” is an outstanding female, possessing exceptional length, thickness, hair and being polled are an absolute bonus. This is a heifer I would dearly love to keep as we don’t have any daughters in our herd from her dam, but the opportunity for you is there so take advantage. The pedigree of “San Antonio” doesn’t necessarily say heifer bull, but his track record does prove him to be a calving ease bull. Well “French Attack” ended up working double duty so this year there is a large number of them so we dug in and found some dandies to part with. “Delilah” will lead this group and was a hard choice for us to add into the sale. This is a heifer with a smashing pedigree, not only on paper, but in their working clothes as well. I am really pleased with the group of “Aegon” daughters we have on offer this year. I think they are his strongest group to date, and the daughters we have in our own program are really good. We have now parted ways with “Aegon”, as he is working for the good folks at Diamond Rio Ranch, so this is his last set of daughters we will offer for sale. “Haylee” is another heifer I have a hard time parting with, as she is a granddaughter of “Dorothy Jane x Razzmatazz” not much to say about these two as they pretty well have said it all and done it all themselves for our herd. “Helayna” is another heifer I really have a hard time parting with. Her dam has been a stellar producer for us sprinkling progeny from BC to Ontario, and always putting a good one in the mix. As a model “T” cow she is still as solid of producer as we own, and being the 3rd oldest cow on the place shows no sign of slowing down. She has a very different pedigree, which is stacked with greatness. For anyone looking to add that solid female with an outcross and exceptional longevity, then I would probably rank her as my #1 pick on that merit alone. A true workhorse in the making here. “Raptoress” is another female from our embryo program, a direct daughter of “Unique”. A little different style than the typical “Aegon’s” throwing back a bit more to the dam’s side of the pedigree. This particular heifer does have a very different pedigree, and will no doubt supply someone with an outcross. As you can see she will be bred a bit later as she didn’t stick to her AI. This will be our first calf crop for “San Antonio” however he is very much a proven bull, as we purchased him back from Abt Cattle Co, where he very successfully calved for them. “Camari” comes from a stellar cow family that has been highly productive for us. Her dam had an accident on pasture so had to be shipped due to injury so this is her last calf, which is very unfortunate as this young cow had a bright future, and produced Mackenzie’s very last 4-H calf who went on to be her Reserve Champion steer. Its funny when we sometimes see a cow has produced a steer we automatically assume they weren’t good enough. Perhaps, but also keep in mind numbers, age and market share. I recently heard a statement that made an awful lot of sense to me. If you see a breeder with a good pen of steers, you can assume they have a great pen of bulls. Well said. End of the story is this is a dark red, heavily pigmented heifer with lots of length and style. The breeding to “Imax” should really be complimentary. “Admiraless” is certainly something different for us. She is a Homozygous Polled Full Fleckvieh heifer. She offers a lot of different mating options. She is a more moderate framed heifer that I would personally breed back to a big power horned bull down the road as you know you will get a Polled calf. If you want to try and produce another homo polled offspring that option is also there for you. She comes from a very nice young cow we purchased from Eagle Ridge Simmentals. If there was an award to be given out for easiest keeping cow in the herd, “Harmonica’s” dam would be the winner. This is a female that traces back to our good old “Miss Arnold 5501E” cow. It would have been interesting to see how many progeny we would have had related to her in our herd if she wasn’t a mature cow when we purchased her. “Hemi” is only one of 3 heifers we didn’t see cycle in the AI pen, so she went in with the bull where she settled on first service. This is a very nice Polled “Shazam” daughter from a great cow family. Her grandmother “Sonita” was my favorite cow on the farm. As a 15 year old cow she delivered her last calf, and still had perfect feet, udder and the sweet disposition that made her a family favorite. “Halita” is a twin, of which we retained her full sister. Her dam has been a very steady producer for us, and produced a full brother, “Wasabi” who is working for Keets Simmentals, SK. This is a stylish Polled heifer with a little extra punch coming from “Mr. Gibbs” and offers the option of being able to mate her back to whatever choice of bull you desire as she is a cow that will moderate birth weight but still add enough power and growth on her own. As I mentioned she is a twin and we retained the full sister for ourselves. The full sister did have scurrs, which is why we chose to keep her for ourselves. She is mated the same way a couple days earlier. Whoever buys this heifer if they would prefer her full sister instead we are certainly open to trading them straight across. These were highly productive cows and did a great job for us over the years. When breeding the heifers we choose to go with the fairly proven and safest route possible. There are times though when the mating is one that you would likely duplicate down the road as a mature cow. This was our first calf crop from “Fort Knox”. As you will notice he ran heavier to heifers, only having three sons in the bull sale, who were very well received. He saw much heavier use last year and will rival “French Attack” next spring for the largest sire group in the sale. We are extremely happy with the job he has done, and “Halette” appears to be a very good example of what he has to offer. This is a very solid colored heifer, which has great angularity, capacity and length. Lots of eye appeal, great foot structure and they appear as though they will have very beautiful udders. “Halma” comes from a small, but outstanding cow family. We purchased a handful of cows from the Arnold Brothers dispersal, we really had no idea of the impact they would have in our herd. As they were mature cows, their time was limited, but wow did they do a job. “G5751” was a direct daughter of “Antonius” back on a “Jade x G807” cow. She was the youngest of the group, having 10 calves for us, 8 of those 10 were bull calves, and everyone made the bull sale. Her lone daughter we retained is the grand dam of “Halma”. This is without question one of my personal favorites in this year’s sale. We are not single trait selectors, but we do try to raise a few of these really good buckskins, hoping to get some tan bulls. In my opinion “Hestia” could be one of this year’s sale sleepers. This is our largest sire group, so there could be some of these heifers that get a little overlooked. I must admit I even surprised myself when we put this heifer into this year’s sale. “Hayda’s” grand dam was without question one of our favorite cows to ever grace the pastures here, and was a fabulous producer for us for many years. This is a super sweet female. You will notice she is bred a bit later and was exposed a bit later than the group. When we ultra-sounded going to grass, this heifer had stuck to her early AI breeding, but the vet found her calf was dead she just hadn’t got rid of it yet. We estrumated her and left her with the bull for an extra three days, so that is why she has a later exposure. End of the sad story. This is an awesome young heifer, from one of our top cow families. She traces back to the great “Ashante” cow from Buzzard Hollow, and the impact she has had on their program and Simmentals of Texas is huge, not to mention the breed as a whole. This is a heifer made up of years of dedication of genetic selection at its finest. If I was to cherry pick one out of the sale to keep for ourselves this may very well be my pick. “Georgette” is a very solid made “Excalibur” daughter. We are extremely happy with the job this bull has done for us tracing back to the famous “Flirt” cow family. “Excalibur” adds growth body capacity and hair, while still maintaining adequate calving ease. This is a heifer that traces back to one of our original old red cows. This cow family has done an outstanding job over the years producing bulls. We were extremely excited to have added “Wilson” into our bull battery this spring. I was extremely impressed with the “High Roller” cattle at the WLB dispersal and the “43Y’ cow family was on our wish list but we didn’t manage to purchase one, so when “Wilson” was available this spring we were very intrigued. We purchased him in partnership with Soderglen Ranches, so he will not be available to view sale day, as he is working double duty at their ranch. He is a really smooth made bull with great shoulder set, exceptional length, and tremendous foot structure. When he was breeding for us this spring, he just continued to mature and put on weight, and he does appear as though he will be an outstanding breeding piece. He is built right, his numbers are right, everything points to him being a bull that will possess calving ease, but offer so much more. Last fall we got a bit more aggressive in our purebred section with the addition of some elite cows from the WLB dispersal. Yes most people know us as Fleckvieh breeders, but we feel as though we have dug in equally as deep in our purebred section. Although our numbers are relatively small in comparison, the quality is deep. “Gwenyth” is without question our #1 black baldie heifer. This is the final calf for “Moe” and at age 17 she was certainly slowing down. Sure “Moebra” is a bit smaller than the group, but don’t let that fool you, she will be a diamond in the rough for sure. “Moe” did an amazing job for us in her time, and was still as sound as they come when we shipped her, she just powered out at the end. She has a full sibling to “Violet” at side this year that will be right at the front end of next year’s bull sale. The “Precision” females are outstanding producers, and then going back to “Barbossa” and “Jezebel” who just happens to be my personal favorite cow on the whole farm, winner, winner, you can’t go wrong right here. A slight oversight with breeding as she is bred back to “Precision”, however you can never go wrong with a good thing. This is a little closer than we typically would match up pedigrees, but at the end of the day it should still be a good cross. She was our pick of the red heifers that year and being bred to Cobra was the icing on the cake. BLL Moonray is the natural calf off an influential cow in our program, Eagle Ridge Unbelievable 1U. She’s sold numerous breeder sons into the prairie provinces and down into the States and her daughters are leaving their mark on many programs. Moonray is very long bodied with a big hip and wide top. Dark red and fully pigmented. She’ll be the first daughter we’ve sold off of Sibelle Sugar Ray, a bull who has done a great job adding some substance to his progeny. I am a strong believer that when you head to town, you have to take your best and Farrah Jane fits this bill to a tee! Purchased in-dam with her mother, Anchor D Farissa 242F, this Precision daughter is a standout among a very strong set of replacement heifers for obvious reasons. Farrah Jane has brood cow written all over her and I believe she will exceed every expectation you put in front of her. 10J is a powerhouse wrapped in a nice package of incredible muscling, depth of rib, high milking ability (top 10% of the breed) and a fantastic calving ease ability (top 15% of the breed).
