LET’S GET ABRASIVE
A QUICK GUIDE TO SANDBLASTING NOZZLES
Abrasive blasting is when a stream of abrasive material, such as sand, is propelled under high pressure onto a surface. There are many reasons one might
want to use abrasive blasting: ❑
Smooth a rough surface
❑
Roughen a smooth surface
❑
Shape a surface
❑
Remove surface contaminants
In 1870, the first abrasive blasting process was patented. Since then the industry has come along way to perfect
the operation and materials used. The modern-day nozzle can cope even in the harshest of environments. On the following pages we are going to give a brief description of the types of
nozzles available.
VENTURI NOZZLES If you need a nozzle to evenly distribute and accelerate your abrasive material
over a large blast pattern look no further. The long-styled venturi nozzle will yield roughly a 40% greater production compared to the straight bore style.
Looking for even more from your venturi nozzle? XL performance has arrived. With increases in abrasive velocity, this nozzle
will improve your production rates and efficiencies.
Utilizing
the
identical
air
requirements as the standard venturi nozzle but made from very lightweight materials, like SiAION, helps keep the weight down and ensures less operator fatigue.
SPECIAL VENTURI NOZZLES
ANGLED NOZZLES Tight spaces require the right tools. Whether you’re working on bridge lattice or inside pipes, angled nozzles will get the job done. These nozzles can be made from tungsten carbide, boron carbide, and ROCTEC® composite carbide. Don’t waste time and supplies; make sure you have an angled nozzle in your tool chest.
STRAIGHT BORE NOZZLES Have a small job, like cleaning railings or grillwork? The straight bore nozzle is
your guy. This nozzle is great for close-range spot blasting with its small abrasive pattern and minimal overblast.
WET BLAST NOZZLES Need a wet blast system to work with your current pressure blasting equipment? The WIN system (Water Induction Nozzle) can utilize
water from a tap or with rust inhibitors simply presented through any pump – no need for additional
equipment. WIN comes in tungsten carbide or BP200 SiAION.
