For its second international edition, the Awards Ceremony for the BigMat International Architecture Award 2015 – BMIAA’15 – will take place in a great European capital, namely renowned Berlin, a city destroyed, divided, reunified and rebuilt, a city overflowing with energy: in short, the ideal setting in which to celebrate architecture.
Pour sa seconde édition internationale, la cérémonie de remise des Prix du BigMat International Architecture Award 2015 – BMIAA’15 – aura lieu à Berlin, la grande et prestigieuse capitale européenne, une ville détruite, divisée, réunifiée et reconstruite, une ville qui déborde d’énergie : en somme, la scène idéale pour célébrer l’architecture.
The vitality of this competition represents very well the dynamism and primordial role played by architecture within the construction industry as well as in society; hence the desire of the BigMat Group to highlight its excellence through this Award.

Slavnostní předání cen v rámci druhého ročníku mezinárodní soutěže International Architecture Award 2015 – BMIAA‘15 – proběhne v Berlíně, velké prestižní evropské metropoli, městě zničeném, rozděleném, znovu spojeném a rekonstruovaném, ve městě, jež překypuje energií, zkrátka ve městě, jež nabízí ideální zázemí pro oslavu architektury.

Just as permanence is an inherent quality in architecture, it is also an essential factor that imbues any award with added value. This is probably because what remains ends up becoming the benchmark for what happens round about it, at the same time as it overshadows the determination and strength of the people or institutions that promoted it. This is the case of the BigMat International Architecture Award, the biennial prize now in its second edition thanks to the BigMat distribution group and which has recognized, over these ten years, a good part of the best in European architecture. In this year’s edition, Portugal stands alongside the traditional participants of France, Italy, Belgium, the Czech Republic and Spain. We should all give thanks that the Award is growing in the same way as BigMat itself grows, by giving determined support for Architecture. The 2015 BigMat International Architecture Award held in Berlin offers a significant overview of the architecture executed in the countries participating in the competition. For this edition of the BigMat International Architecture Award, 750 projects have been submitted from Belgium, the Czech Republic, France, Italy, Portugal and Spain. The selection process has been entrusted to a balanced and highly prestigious panel of international judges that I have had the honour of chairing, all of whose members are of the very highest professional quality and come from each of the countries taking part in the present edition. They have done their work earnestly over a very long period of time, thus enabling them to evaluate the projects intensely yet peacefully. The success of the competition has been due not only to the number of registrations received but rather, above all, to the high quality of the projects submitted. This qualitative aspect of this year’s competition is reflected in this catalogue listing the top 94 projects pre-selected by the Panel of Judges. Both the winning designs and the runners-up represent the best in architecture by the various generations of architects in the countries participating in the period
considered for the present edition of the BigMat International Architecture Award. The jury has decided that the special mention for the Best Young Architect should be bestowed on a+ samuel delmas architectes urbanistes for the building entitled Dialogue between Matter and Landscape. The national champions from Belgium, the Czech Republic, France, Italy and Portugal were respectively KAU Gymnasium by URA Architects, Facilities for a biotope – adaptation of a former agricultural machinery garage by Prokš Přikryl Architekti, “The Ring of Remembrance” International WWI Memorial of Notre-Dame de Lorette by Philippe Prost, La Pedevilla Pliscia 13 by Pedevilla Architects and Casa da Severa by José Adrião. Finally, the Grand Prize in the BigMat’15 International Architecture Award has gone to the Zamora Offices building by the Alberto Campo Baeza architecture studio. Contemporary office space within the historic town centre of Zamora. The Panel of Judges has appreciated in this project the appropriate attitude shown in resolving a modern programme, wisely combining on site the contemporaneous feel with a respectful understanding of the pre-existing buildings, both in terms of the design and structure as well as in the choice of materials in which it is built. This is an edifice that knows how to speak inside its spaces and to respect the silence on the outside of this historic city that does not require any more urban landmarks, as is the case of Zamora. On behalf of the Jury and in my own name, I should like to take this opportunity to congratulate not only the winner of the Grand Prize but also all the national winners, the recipient of the special mention and all the runners-up. To conclude, it is necessary to underline the debt of gratitude architects owe to the BigMat Group for continuing to provide the determined professional support it offers us and its patronage of the architectural baggage represented by this Award, which is among the major trophies on the international scene. De même qu’une qualité inhérente à l’architecture est son caractère permanent, celui-ci constitue en outre un facteur essentiel qui rajoute de la valeur à toute distinction. Ceci est dû probablement au fait que ce qui est permanent finit par devenir une référence de ce qui se passe tout autour, au même titre qu’il contient la détermination et la force des personnes et des organisations qui le promeuvent. C’est le cas du BigMat International Architecture Award, le prix biennal créé par le groupe d’entreprises de distribution BigMat qui célèbre sa deuxième édition et qui a distingué une grande partie de l’architecture européenne la plus qualitative de ces dix dernières années. Nous célébrons une nouvelle édition où le Portugal vient s’ajouter aux pays habituels comme la France, l’Italie, la Belgique, la République Tchèque et l’Espagne. Nous sommes heureux de voir que ce prix croit simultanément avec la croissance de BigMat qui mise clairement sur l’architecture. La cérémonie du BigMat International Architecture Award qui se déroulera cette année à Berlin représente un reflet significatif du panorama de l’architecture des pays qui participent à ce prix. Pour cette édition du BigMat International Architecture Award, 750 projets candidats ont été reçus en provenance de la Belgique, de la République Tchèque, de l’Espagne, de la France, de l’Italie et du Portugal. Le Jury international, prestigieux et équilibré dans sa composition, qui s’est chargé de la sélection des projets et que j’ai eu l’honneur de présider, a rassemblé des membres d’une grande qualité professionnelle provenant de chacun des pays qui ont participé à cette édition. Son travail a été long et rigoureux ce qui a permis d’évaluer les projets avec tranquillité mais avec intensité. Le succès de cette édition repose non seulement sur le nombre de candidatures reçues mais surtout sur la grande qualité des projets présentés. La qualité de cette édition est d’ailleurs démontrée dans ce catalogue, en parcourant la liste liste des 94 premiers projets sélectionnés par le Jury. L’ensemble des projets, aussi bien finalistes que gagnants, représente le fleuron de l’architecture transgénérationnelle

des pays participants pour cette édition du BigMat International Architecture Award. Le Jury a décidé que la mention au meilleur Jeune Architecte soit remise à a+ samuel delmas architectes urbanistes pour l’édifice Dialogue entre Matière et Paysage. Les premiers prix nationaux de la Belgique, la République Tchèque, la France, l’Italie et le Portugal ont été décernés respectivement à KAU Gymnasium de URA Architects, Facilities for a biotope – adaptation of a former agricultural machinery Garage de Prokš Přikryl Architekti, “The Ring of Remembrance” International WWI Memorial of Notre-Dame de Lorette de Philippe Prost, La Pedevilla Pliscia 13 de Pedevilla Architects et Casa da Severa de José Adrião. Pour terminer, c’est l’édifice Zamora Offices, de l’étude d’architecture Alberto Campo Baeza, qui a remporté le Grand Prix International d’Architecture BigMat’15. Un immeuble de bureaux contemporain dans la vieille ville historique de Zamora. De ce projet, le Jury a apprécié la judicieuse démarche pour résoudre un programme actuel qui a su combiner intelligemment la contemporanéité avec la compréhension respectueuse de ce qui existait déjà, autant du point de vue du tracé de l’édifice que pour ce qui est du choix des matériaux de construction. C’est un édifice qui sait parler à l’intérieur de ses espaces et se taire à l’extérieur, dans une ville historique comme Zamora, qui n’a pas besoin de nouveaux défis urbains comme. À travers ces lignes, je voudrais féliciter au nom du Jury et en mon propre nom le gagnant du Grand Prix ainsi que les lauréats nationaux, la mention spéciale et les projets finalistes. Finalement, il est important de réitérer la reconnaissance que les architectes ont envers le Groupe BigMat pour son soutien professionnel permanent et décidé ainsi que pour le patronage offert au patrimoine architectural représenté par ce prix qui s’inscrit dans la lignée des grands prix internationaux. Stejně jako výdrž je kvalita vlastní architektuře, tak je to také základní faktor, který dodává hodnotu jakémukoliv ocenění. Možná je to proto, že to, co zůstává, se stává jakýmsi referentem toho, co se děje v okolí. Zároveň v sobě skrývá odhodlání a sílu osob a entit, které to podporují.

To je také případ BigMat International Architecture Award, výroční ceny, kterou podporuje skupina distribučních podniků sdružených pod hlavičkou BigMat. Letos se jedná o druhý ročník a za oněch deset let se nám podařilo prezentovat velkou část té nejlepší evropské architektury.
Hlavní mezinárodní cenu za architekturu BigMat´15 získává budova Zamora Offices, dílo Estudio Arquitectura Alberto Campo Baeza. Soudobé kancelářské prostory uvnitř historického centra Zamora. Porota na tomto projektu ocenila vhodný přístup při řešení aktuálního programu. Projekt dokázal uvědoměle zkombinovat soudobý charakter s ohleduplným porozuměním toho již existujícího, jak z hlediska nárysu budovy, tak z pohledu výběru stavebních materiálů. Budova, jež dokáže mluvit uvnitř svých prostor a mlčet venku, v historickém centru města, jež nepotřebuje již další dominanty, jako je případ Zamory. Chtěl bych na těchto řádcích jménem poroty a jménem svým poblahopřát výherci hlavní ceny a výhercům jednotlivých národních cen, vyznamenaným a finalistům.
Čeká nás další ročník, kde se k tradičním zemím jako jsou Francie, Itálie, Belgie, Česká republika a Španělsko připojí i Portugalsko. Jsme vděčni, že Cena roste ruku v ruce se skupinou BigMat. Tímto jsme vskutku vsadili na architekturu. BigMat International Architecture Award, která se bude letos konat v Berlíně, je významným shrnutím toho, co architektura přinesla v jednotlivých zemích, které se do soutěže zapojily. Do soutěže BigMat International Architecture Award se přihlásilo 750 projektů z Belgie, České republiky, Španělska, Francie, Itálie a Portugalska. Výběr provedla vyrovnaná a prestižní mezinárodní porota, které jsem měl tu čest předsedat. Všichni členové pocházející ze zemí, kde byla soutěž vyhlášena, jsou velcí odborníci. Čekala je seriózní a zdlouhavá práce, během které bylo možné projekty v klidu a intenzivně zhodnotit. Úspěch soutěže spočívá nejen ve vysokém počtu přihlášených projektů, ale zejména v jejich velké kvalitě. Tento kvalitativní aspekt soutěže je zachycen v tomto katalogu, kde je představeno prvních 94 vybraných projektů.
A na závěr je třeba poděkovat Skupině BigMat za kontinuální a rozhodnou podporu, kterou nám poskytuje, za mecenášství, jež nabízí architektuře v podobě této ceny, jež patří mezi velká mezinárodní ocenění. Jak finálové, tak vítězné projekty představují to nejlepší z architektury různých generací architektů ze zúčastněných zemí za období určené pro BigMat International Architecture Award. Porota rozhodla, že zvláštní uznání pro nejlepšího mladého architekta obdrží a+ samuel delmas architectes urbaniste za budovu Dialogue entre Matière et Paysage. Národní ceny Belgie, České republiky, Francie, Itálie a Portugalska získaly KAU Gymasium de URA Architects, Facilities for a biotope –

Se la durevolezza è una qualità connaturata all’architettura, è altresì un fattore essenziale che conferisce valore a qualsiasi premio forse perché l’opera che perdura diventa punto di riferimento di quanto avviene nello spazio circostante e cela, nel contempo, la risolutezza e la forza delle persone e degli enti che la propugnano. Così è per il BigMat International Architecture Award, il premio biennale sostenuto dal gruppo di società del comparto della distribuzione BigMat, giunto alla sua 2ª edizione e che, nell’arco di questi 10 anni, si è fatto eco di buona parte delle migliori espressioni architettoniche europee. Questa nuova edizione vede il Portogallo arricchire la rosa dei partecipanti tradizionali quali Francia, Italia, Belgio, Repubblica Ceca e Spagna. Constatiamo con grande soddisfazione che l’evoluzione del Premio va di pari passo con la crescita di BigMat privilegiando decisamente il comparto dell’Architettura. Il BigMat International Architecture Award, che quest’anno si tiene a Berlino, sintetizza in modo significativo le opere architettoniche realizzate nei Paesi partecipanti al premio. Belgio, Repubblica Ceca, Spagna, Francia, Italia e Portogallo hanno partecipato a questa 2ª edizione del BigMat International Architecture Award con ben 750 progetti selezionati da una prestigiosa e ben strutturata giuria internazionale, che ho avuto l’onore di presiedere, composta da membri altamente competenti, in rappresentanza di ogni Paese aderente a questa nuova edizione. Il lavoro scrupoloso e prolungato nel tempo da loro svolto, ha reso possibile un’accorta e ponderata disamina dei progetti. L’esito senz’altro positivo del BigMat International Architecture Award 2015, è riconducibile indubbiamente alle richieste di adesione registrate e, in modo particolare, allo spiccato livello qualitativo dei progetti come attesta l’elenco, di cui a questo catalogo, dei primi 94 progetti selezionati dalla giuria. di addetti ai lavori dei Paesi aderenti nel lasso di tempo considerato per il BigMat International Architecture Award di quest’anno. La giuria ha deciso di assegnare la menzione speciale “Miglior architetto giovane” ad a+ samuel delmas architectes urbaniste per l’edificio Dialogue entre Matière et Paysage. Dal canto loro, Belgio, Repubblica Ceca, Francia, Italia e Portogallo hanno conferito i premi nazionali a KAU Gymasium di URA Architects, Facilities for a Biotope – Adaptation of a Former Agricultural Machinery Garage di Prokš Přikryl Architekti, “The Ring of Remembrance” International WWI Memorial of Notre-Dame de Lorette di Philippe Prost, La Pedevilla Pliscia 13 di Pedevilla Architects e Casa da Severa di José Adrião. Infine, lo Estudio Arquitectura Alberto Campo Baeza si è aggiudicato il Gran Premio Internazionale di Architettura BigMat ‘15 grazie al progetto Zamora Offices, un complesso di uffici moderni realizzato nel centro storico di Zamora, di cui la giuria ha valorizzato il giusto approccio nel mettere in campo un programma attuale in cui si è riusciti a coniugare ingegnosamente la contemporaneità dell’opera e la rispettosa comprensione di quanto già in essere, sia in termini di tracciato costruttivo che di materiali selezionati per la sua realizzazione. Un edificio improntato al dialogo interno dei suoi spazi e al silenzio esterno in una città talmente intrisa di storia qual è Zamora che non necessita di ulteriori simboli urbani. In nome dei giurati e a titolo personale, colgo l’occasione per esprimere le più vive congratulazioni al vincitore del Gran Premio, ai vincitori dei premi nazionali, al vincitore della menzione speciale e a tutti i finalisti. Infine, si evidenzia la gratitudine nutrita dagli architetti nei riguardi del Gruppo BigMat dato l’instancabile e deciso appoggio professionale loro prestato e la protezione mecenatesca del bagaglio architettonico connaturato in questo premio, annoverato tra i più prestigiosi riconoscimenti su scala internazionale. Da mesma forma que a permanência é uma qualidade inerente à arquitetura, também é um fator essencial que dá valor a qualquer prémio. Isto deve ser provavelmente devido ao facto que o que permanece acaba por ser referência daquilo que acontece à volta, ao mesmo tempo que mostra a determinação e a força das pessoas ou entidades que o promovem. Este é o caso do BigMat International Architecture Award, o prémio bienal promovido pelo grupo de empresas de distribuição BigMat, que vê nesta sua segunda edição, e que juntou nestes dez anos, boa parte da melhor arquitetura europeia. Estamos perante mais uma edição na qual, aos tradicionais países que são França, Itália, Bélgica, República Checa e Espanha, se junta Portugal. É de agradecer que o Prémio cresça ao mesmo tempo que o faz a BigMat, apostando decididamente pela Arquitetura. O BigMat International Architecture Award, neste ano 2015, organizado em Berlim, é um resumo significativo da arquitetura realizada nos países incluídos no prémio. A esta convocatória do BigMat International Architecture Award apresentaram-se 750 projetos da Bélgica, República Checa, Espanha, França, Itália e Portugal. A seleção foi efetuada por um equilibrado e prestigioso júri internacional, que tive a honra de presidir, de muita alta qualidade profissional em todos e cada um dos seus membros, provenientes de cada uno dos países onde tinha lugar a presente convocatória. Fez um trabalho sério e prolongado no tempo, o que permitiu avaliar os projetos com tranquilidade e intensidade. O sucesso da convocatória foi devido não apenas ao número de inscrições recebidas, mas sobretudo à alta qualidade dos projetos apresentados. Este aspeto qualitativo da convocatória fica refletido neste catálogo, na lista dos primeiros 94 projetos selecionados pelo Júri. Tanto os projetos finalistas como os vencedores representam o melhor da arquitetura das diferentes gerações de arquitetos dos países participantes, no período
considerado para a presente convocatória do BigMat International Architecture Award. O júri decidiu atribuir a menção ao melhor Arquiteto Jovem a a+ samuel delmas architectes urbaniste pelo edifício Dialogue entre Matière et Paysage. Os prémios nacionais de Bélgica, República Checa, França, Itália e Portugal foram respetivamente atribuídos a KAU Gymasium da URA Architects, Facilities for a biotope – adaptation of a former agricultural machinery Garage da Prokš Přikryl Architekti, “The Ring of Remembrance” International WWI Memorial of Notre-Dame da Lorette de Philippe Prost, La Pedevilla Pliscia 13 da Pedevilla Architects e Casa da Severa de José Adrião. Finalmente, o Grande Prémio Internacional de Arquitetura BigMat´15 foi atribuído ao edifício Zamora Offices do Estudo de Arquitetura Alberto Campo Baeza. Escritórios contemporâneos dentro do centro histórico de Zamora. O Júri valorizou neste projeto a acertada atitude ao resolver um programa atual, que foi combinar com sabedoria na obra, a contemporaneidade e o entendimento respeitoso do existente, tanto desde o ponto de vista das linhas de edificação como da escolha dos materiais para construi-lo. Um edifício que sabe falar no interior dos seus espaços e calar no exterior, numa cidade histórica que não precisa de mais marcos urbanos, como é o caso de Zamora. Quero dar os parabéns nestas linhas em nome do Júri e em meu nome próprio ao vencedor do Grande Prémio, assim como aos vencedores nacionais, à menção e aos finalistas. Por último, é importante salientar o agradecimento que os arquitetos devem ao Grupo BigMat pelo contínuo e decidido apoio profissional que nos presta, e ao mecenato à bagagem arquitetônica que supõe este prémio que se encontra entre as grandes recompensas a nível internacional. Al igual que la permanencia es una cualidad inherente a la arquitectura, también es un factor esencial que otorga valor a cualquier galardón. Probablemente esto se deba a que lo que permanece acaba siendo referente de lo que sucede a su alrededor, a la par que esconde la determinación y la fortaleza de las personas o entidades que lo promueven. Este es el caso del BigMat International Architecture Award, el premio bienal promovido por el grupo de empresas de la distribución BigMat, que ve en ésta su quinta edición, y que ha recogido en esta decena de años buena parte de la mejor arquitectura europea. Estamos ante una edición más en la que, a los tradicionales países de Francia, Italia, Bélgica, República Checa y España, se une Portugal. Es de agradecer que el Premio crezca simultáneamente a como lo hace BigMat, apostando decididamente por la Arquitectura. El BigMat International Architecture Award, que se celebra este año 2015 en Berlín, es un resumen significativo de la arquitectura llevada a cabo en los países a los que se circunscribe el premio. A esta convocatoria del BigMat International Architecture Award se han presentado 750 proyectos de Bélgica, República Checa, España, Francia, Italia y Portugal. La selección la ha llevado a cabo un equilibrado y prestigioso jurado internacional, que he tenido el honor de presidir, de muy alta calidad profesional en todos y cada uno de sus miembros, procedentes de cada uno de los países donde tenía lugar la presente convocatoria. Su trabajo ha sido serio y prolongado en el tiempo, lo que ha permitido evaluar los proyectos con tranquilidad e intensidad. El éxito de la convocatoria se ha debido, no solamente al número de inscripciones recibidas, si no, sobre todo, a la alta calidad de los proyectos presentados. Este aspecto cualitativo de la convocatoria queda reflejado en este catálogo en el listado de los primeros 94 proyectos seleccionados por el Jurado. Tanto proyectos finalistas como los ganadores representan lo mejor de la arquitectura de las distintas

generaciones de arquitectos de los países participantes en el período considerado para la presente convocatoria del BigMat International Architecture Award. El jurado decidió que la mención al mejor Arquitecto Joven recayera en a+ samuel delmas architectes urbaniste por el edificio Dialogue entre Matière et Paysage. Los premios nacionales de Bélgica, República Checa, Francia, Italia y Portugal los obtuvieron respectivamente KAU Gymnasium de URA Architects, Facilities for a biotope – adaptation of a former agricultural machinery Garage de Prokš Přikryl Architekti, “The Ring of Remembrance” International WWI Memorial of Notre-Dame de Lorette de Philippe Prost, La Pedevilla Pliscia 13 de Pedevilla Architects y Casa da Severa de José Adrião. Finalmente el Gran Premio Internacional de Arquitectura BigMat´15 ha sido para el edificio Zamora Offices del Estudio Arquitectura Alberto Campo Baeza. Unas oficinas contemporáneas dentro del casco histórico de Zamora. El Jurado ha valorado en este proyecto la acertada actitud a la hora de resolver un programa actual, que ha sabido combinar sabiamente en la obra la contemporaneidad con el entendimiento respetuoso de lo existente, tanto desde el punto de vista del trazado edificatorio como en la elección de los materiales que lo construyen. Un edificio que sabe hablar en el interior de sus espacios y callar exteriormente en una ciudad histórica que no necesita de más hitos urbanos, como es el caso de Zamora. Quiero felicitar en estas líneas en nombre del Jurado y en el mío propio tanto al ganador del Gran Premio, como a los ganadores nacionales, a la mención y a los finalistas. Por último, es necesario subrayar el agradecimiento que los arquitectos deben al Grupo BigMat por el continuo y decidido apoyo profesional que nos prestan, y el mecenazgo al bagaje arquitectónico que supone este premio, que se encuentra entre los grandes galardones a nivel internacional. Belgian architecture has no tradition of impressing monuments since politics have, luckily or not, lost the ambition and comprehension of such programs. Consequence: a high level quality of everyday architecture related to its environment, trying to improve the perception of it, according to its nature and complexity.
L’architecture belge n’a pas pour tradition d’ériger d’impressionnants monuments, car les politiques ont, par chance ou pas, perdu l’ambition et la compréhension de tels programmes. La conséquence : une architecture commune de très grande qualité, en harmonie dans son environnement et essayant d’en améliorer la perception en fonction de sa nature et de sa complexité.
The Kau Gymnasium by URA takes benefit of a simple program, a sport hall, to engage relations with its environment subtended by a slight slope in the field, almost like a geometrical abstract painting in three dimensions. The simple tectonic of this architecture, cheap materials and details, converge to afford a strong effect through a low budget construction. On the same register of geometric relations with its natural environment, the water tower by V+ / VERS PLUS DE BIEN ETRE, enlarge the purpose of a very ordinary program to an almost monumental level. The tension between the abstract cubic volume supported by seemingly strong and fragile crossed legs, transform a most static function (maintaining a large reserve of water in the air), into an every single moment dancing presence which projects the territorial landscape of a post-industrial region into a scenery for the future. Historical relations between past and future patrimony, is also what enhances the work of ATELIER D’ARCHITECTURE PIERRE HEBBELINCK ET PIERRE DE WIT in the Theatre de Liège, but in a very urban context. The complexity of the urban typology of an historical centre of the City, suggests a balanced energy between preservation and contemporary interventions, to manage the integration of a heavy and complex program of performing, rehearsing, public halls and all their technical supports, into a very dense urban area. The large windowed façade, gently sloped toward the public space, expresses in a very simple language all the intensity of the inside/outside relations of this equipment with its social and urban environment. Le Kau Gymnasium d’URA bénéficie d’un programme simple, un gymnase, pour nouer des liens avec son environnement sous-tendu par une légère inclinaison du terrain, presque comme une peinture géométrique abstraite en trois dimensions. L’humble tectonique de cette architecture, les matériaux bon marché et les détails s’unissent pour apporter un effet riche à une construction à bas prix. Dans le même registre des relations géométriques avec l’environnement naturel, la water tower signée V+ / VERS PLUS DE BIEN-ÊTRE porte l’objectif d’un programme tout à fait ordinaire vers un niveau quasiment monumental. La tension entre le volume cubique abstrait supporté par des colonnes croisées à la fois robustes et fragiles transforme une fonction statique par excellence (stocker une grande quantité d’eau en hauteur) en une omniprésence chorégraphique qui transporte le paysage d’une région post-industrielle sur une scène futuriste. Les relations historiques entre le patrimoine d’hier et d’aujourd’hui mettent également en valeur le travail du ATELIER D’ARCHITECTURE PIERRE HEBBELINCK ET PIERRE DE WIT à travers le Théâtre de Liège, mais dans un contexte beaucoup plus urbain. La complexité de la typologie urbaine d’un centre historique de la ville suggère une énergie équilibrée entre la préservation et l’intervention contemporaine, afin de pouvoir intégrer un programme dense et complexe de salles publiques, de répétitions et de spectacles, ainsi que tout son support technique, dans une zone urbaine extrêmement compacte. La large façade vitrée délicatement inclinée vers l’espace public reflète en toute simplicité l’intensité des liens entre l’intérieur et l’extérieur de cette œuvre et son environnement social et urbain. Belgická architektura postrádá tradici velkolepých monumentů od té doby, co politici, naštěstí nebo bohužel, ztratili své ambice a pochopení pro takové projekty. Důsledek: vysoce kvalitní běžná architektura zasazená do okolního prostředí, snažící se zlepšit jeho vzezření, v souladu se svou povahou a komplexností.
La tradizione architettonica belga non è caratterizzata da monumenti impressionanti, perché la politica, fortunatamente o meno, ha perso l’ambizione e la comprensione di progetti di questa portata. Ne consegue un’architettura quotidiana di altissimo livello, legata all’ambiente, che cerca di migliorarne la percezione, secondo la sua natura e la sua complessità.
Kau Gymnasium od URA využívá jednoduchého programu, sportovní haly, a snaží se navázat vztah s okolním prostředím, které je charakterizováno mírným svahem v polích. Dílo se podobá geometrickému abstraktu nakreslenému v 3D. Jednoduchá tektonika této architektury, levné materiály a detaily umožňují dosáhnout silného efektu za nízké náklady. Na stejné vlně geometrického souznění s okolním prostředím se pohybuje i vodárenská věž z dílny V+ / VERS PLUS DE BIEN ETRE. Rozšiřuje účel obyčejného programu na monumentální úroveň. Napětí mezi abstraktním kubickým objemem podpíraným zdánlivě silnýma a křehkýma nohama, mění statickou funkci (udržování velkých zásob vody ve vzduchu) na jedinečný moment roztančené přítomnosti, která projektuje územní krajinu post-industriálního regionu na plátno budoucnosti. Historické vztahy mezi dědictvím minulosti a budoucnosti krásně zdůrazňuje dílo ARCHITEKTONICKÉHO STUDIA PIERRE HEBBELINCK ET PIERRE DE WIT, Divadlo v Liège, nicméně ve velmi městském kontextu. Komplexnost městské typologie historického centra města nabízí vyváženou energii mezi uchováním a soudobými zásahy. Cílem je začlenit objemný a komplexní program pro vystoupení, zkušební prostory, veřejné haly s veškerým technickým zázemím do velmi husté městské zástavby. Široká okenní fasáda lehce se svažující na veřejné prostranství vyjadřuje velmi jednoduchým jazykem veškerou intenzitu vnitřních/vnějších vztahů tohoto zařízení vůči sociálnímu a městskému prostředí. Il Kau Gymnasium di URA sfrutta un progetto semplice, quello di una palestra, per innestare relazioni con l’ambiente circostante, sotteso da una leggera pendenza sul terreno, quasi come un dipinto geometrico astratto e tridimensionale. La tettonica semplice di quest’opera, i materiali economici e i dettagli si uniscono per creare un effetto potente, in una costruzione a budget ridotto. Sempre nell’ambito delle relazioni geometriche con l’ambiente naturale circostante, la torre-deposito idrico di V+/VERS PLUS DE BIEN ETRE, amplifica l’obiettivo di un progetto molto ordinario, portandolo a un livello quasi monumentale. La tensione fra il volume cubico astratto supportato da gambe incrociate apparentemente forti e fragili, trasforma una funzione principalmente statica (mantenere un’ampia riserva idrica sospesa nell’aria), in una presenza costantemente danzante che proietta il paesaggio del territorio, tipico di una regione post-industriale, su uno scenario futuro. Le relazioni storiche fra il patrimonio passato e quello futuro valorizzano l’opera dell’ATELIER D’ARCHITECTURE PIERRE HEBBELINCK ET PIERRE DE WIT del Teatro di Liegi, ma in un contesto molto urbano. La complessità della tipologia urbana di un centro storico cittadino suggerisce un’equilibrata energia fra la conservazione e gli interventi contemporanei, per gestire l’integrazione di un progetto pesante e complesso di sale pubbliche per spettacoli e prove acustiche, con il relativo supporto tecnico, in una zona urbana molto densa. La grande facciata a vetrata, leggermente inclinata verso lo spazio pubblico, esprime con un linguaggio semplicissimo tutta l’intensità delle relazioni interno/esterno di questa struttura con l’ambiente sociale e urbano. A arquitetura belga não tem uma tradição de monumentos impressionantes, pois as políticas, feliz ou infelizmente, perderam a ambição e a compreensão desse tipo de programas. Como consequência: uma arquitetura quotidiana de grande qualidade, muito relacionada com o ambiente e que tenta melhorar a perceção do mesmo de acordo com a sua natureza e complexidade.
La arquitectura belga no tiene la tradición de crear monumentos impresionantes, ya que los políticos han perdido, afortunada o desafortunadamente, la ambición y la comprensión de tales programas. Como consecuencia: una alta calidad de la arquitectura diaria relacionada con su entorno y donde se intenta mejorar su percepción, según su naturaleza y complejidad.
A Kau Gymnasium do atelier URA, beneficiou de um programa simples, um pavilhão desportivo, mantendo a sua relação com o ambiente subentendida esta por um ligeiro declive no terreno, quase como uma pintura geométrica abstrata em três dimensões. A simplicidade tectónica desta arquitetura, os materiais baratos e os pormenores, convergem para se alcançar um efeito forte através de uma construção de orçamento reduzido.
El Kau Gymnasium de URA aprovecha un programa sencillo, una sala de deporte, para entablar relaciones con su entorno delimitado por una ligera pendiente en el terreno, prácticamente igual que una pintura geométrica abstracta en tres dimensiones. La tectónica sencilla de esta arquitectura, los materiales baratos y los detalles se unen para conseguir un efecto potente a través de una construcción de bajo presupuesto.
No mesmo registo de relações geométricas com o seu ambiente natural, a torre de água do atelier V+ / VERS PLUS DE BIEN ETRE, eleva o propósito de um programa muito banal a um nível quase monumental. A tensão entre o volume cúbico abstrato suportado por umas pernas cruzadas aparentemente fortes e ao mesmo tempo frágeis, transforma uma função basicamente estática (manter uma grande reserva de água suspensa no ar) num singular momento de dança que projeta a paisagem territorial de uma região pós-industrial num cenário de futuro.
En el mismo registro de relaciones geométricas con su entorno natural, el depósito de agua de V+ / VERS PLUS DE BIEN ETRE, amplía la finalidad de un programa ordinario para elevarlo casi a monumento. La tensión entre el volumen cúbico abstracto soportado por unas patas cruzadas supuestamente fuertes y frágiles transforma una función prácticamente estática (mantener una gran reserva de agua en el aire) en un movimiento de danza único donde se proyecta el paisaje territorial de una región postindustrial en un paisaje para el futuro.
As relações históricas entre o passado e o futuro do património são o que também reforça o trabalho do ATELIER D’ARCHITECTURE PIERRE HEBBELINCK ET PIERRE DE WIT no Teatro de Liège, embora num contexto muito urbano. A complexidade da tipologia urbana do centro histórico da cidade, sugere uma energia equilibrada entre intervenções de preservação e de contemporaneidade, para conseguir a integração de um programa pesado e complexo de performance, ensaio, edifício público e de todos os apoios técnicos, numa área urbana extremamente densa. A grande fachada envidraçada, ligeiramente inclinada para o espaço público, expressa numa linguagem muito simples toda a intensidade da relação fora/dentro deste equipamento com o seu ambiente social e urbano.
La relación histórica entre el patrimonio pasado y futuro también es algo que se ve reforzado en el trabajo de ATELIER D’ARCHITECTURE PIERRE HEBBELINCK ET PIERRE DE WIT en el Teatro de Lieja, aunque en un contexto urbano. La complejidad de la tipología urbana del centro histórico de la ciudad implica una energía equilibrada entre la preservación y las intervenciones contemporáneas para gestionar la integración de un programa pesado y complejo de centros públicos, de ensayo, de representación y soportes técnicos en una zona urbana muy densa. La amplia fachada con ventanas, con una ligera inclinación hacia la zona pública, expresa con un lenguaje muy sencillo toda la intensidad de las relaciones internas/externas de este equipamiento con su entorno urbano y social.

FACILITES FOR A BIOTOPE PROKŠ PŘIKRYL ARCHITEKTI There are rare instances when a number of architects independently agree on the quality of the same design. It was the case of the renovation of the farmstead in Honětice. If you view the compound more closely and deeply, you find out that it is a very harmonious consonance of a simple and clear structure, clearly segmented spaces and very soberly and cleverly used conventional materials. The relationship among the existing buildings, the surrounding landscape, the fishpond and the newly renovated compound is unique nowadays. I must say that if I had been entrusted with a similar task, I would have striven for a goal similar to what these gentlemen achieved so masterfully. I rarely experience this. And I rarely manage to agree with different architects so clearly that this is the right way. I am glad that, in the Czech Republic too, renovations are becoming one of the important directions in architecture, and if new parts support existing ones quite naturally, then I feel that architecture is coming back to its mission after decades and decades of ruin and devastation: to be a source of a positive life feeling, seeker of paths to future, and confirmation of solid relationships in society.
FACILITES FOR A BIOTOPE PROKŠ PŘIKRYL ARCHITEKTI Il est rare de voir que la qualité d’une même conception mette tout le monde d’accord. Ce fut le cas de la rénovation du corps de la ferme située à Honětice. En regardant la composition de plus près, on voit qu’il s’agit d’une véritable union harmonieuse d’une structure simple et épurée, d’une division notable des espaces et d’une utilisation très sobre et intelligente des matériaux conventionnels. La relation entre les bâtiments existants, l’environnement, le bassin à poissons et la composition fraîchement rénovée est inédite de nos jours. Je dois avouer que si l’on m’avait confié une tâche similaire, j’aurais probablement recherché un résultat semblable à ce que ces messieurs ont magistralement atteint. Il est rare que différents architectes s’accordent si facilement pour affirmer qu’il s’agit de la meilleure des façons de procéder. Je suis ravi de voir qu’en République tchèque aussi, les rénovations deviennent un axe majeur de l’architecture, et si de nouvelles œuvres renforcent assez naturellement des parties existantes, alors j’observe qu’après des décennies et des décennies de ruine et de dévastation, l’architecture reprend enfin son droit en se montrant comme la source d’un sentiment d’optimisme, la recherche d’un avenir prometteur et le renforcement des relations sociales.
CENTRE FOR RENOVATION ARCHTEAM The dominant features of this structure are clarity, sobriety, navigability and connection of the exterior with the interior. All of these are things that have played an important role in modern Brno architecture, and I am very glad that this work by Archteam has received international response. I am pleased to state that if a project is based on sober design, clearly expressed axes, and a simple and obvious spatial concept, then the fundamental rules of architecture that I believe are still valid.

FACILITES FOR A BIOTOPE PROKŠ PŘIKRYL ARCHITEKTI Nestává se příliš často, aby se větší počet architektů nezávisle na sobě shodl na kvalitě stejného designu. To byl případ renovace farmy v Honěticích. Když se podíváte na areál zblízka a hlouběji, uvidíte, že se jedná o velmi harmonický soulad jednoduché a čisté struktury, jasně rozdělených prostor a velmi střídmě a chytře využitých konvenčních materiálů. Vztah mezi existujícími budovami, okolní krajinou, umělým rybníkem a nově opraveným areálem je dnes unikátní. Musím říci, že kdyby mi byl svěřen podobný úkol, určitě bych se snažil vytyčit si podobný cíl, jako je dílo, které tito pánově tak mistrně dokončili. Málokdy jsem viděl něco tak skvělého. A málokdy naprosto souhlasím s ostatními architekty, že toto je ta správná cesta. Jsem velmi rád, že také v České republice se renovace postupně stávají důležitým směrem v architektuře. A pokud nová díla velmi přirozeně snesou již existující části, pak mám pocit, že architektura se po desetiletích ruin a devastace vrací zpět ke svému poslání: být zdrojem pozitivních životních pocitů, hledat cesty pro budoucnost a potvrzovat silné vztahy ve společnosti.
FACILITES FOR A BIOTOPE PROKŠ PŘIKRYL ARCHITEKTI Sono pochi i casi in cui un gruppo di architetti ha la possibilità di esprimere indipendentemente il suo parere sulla qualità dello stesso progetto. È stato il caso della ristrutturazione del maso di Honětice. Se si osserva il complesso più da vicino e più in profondità, si scopre che si tratta della consonanza molto armoniosa di una struttura semplice e chiara, di spazi nettamente segmentati e di materiali convenzionali utilizzati in maniera assolutamente sobria e intelligente. La relazione fra gli edifici esistenti, il paesaggio circostante, il laghetto con i pesci e il nuovo complesso ristrutturato è unica oggigiorno. Devo dire che se mi avessero affidato un compito di questo tipo, mi sarei dovuto sforzare moltissimo per raggiungere un risultato simile a ciò che questi signori sono riusciti a realizzare con tale maestria. Mi succede raramente di vedere opere di questo tipo. E di rado sono così chiaramente d’accordo con diversi architetti, nella convinzione che questa sia la scelta giusta. Sono lieto del fatto che anche nella Repubblica Ceca la ristrutturazione stia diventando importante nell’universo architettonico. Se poi gli elementi nuovi vanno a supporto di quelli già esistenti in maniera molto naturale, allora penso che l’architettura riesca davvero a tornare alla sua vocazione iniziale, dopo decenni di rovina e devastazione: essere una fonte di sensazioni vitali positive, alla ricerca di strade che ci portino verso il futuro, e la conferma di relazioni solide nella società.
CENTRE FOR RENOVATION ARCHTEAM Dominantními rysy této struktury jsou jasnost, střídmost, proveditelnost a propojení vnějšku s vnitřkem. Toto všechno jsou věci, které hrály důležitou roli v moderní brněnské architektuře, a jsem velmi rád, že tato práce z dílny Archteam se dočkala mezinárodního ohlasu. Jsem velmi rád, že mohu říci, že pokud je projekt založen na střídmém designu, jasně vyjádřených osách a jednoduché a samozřejmé prostorové koncepci, pak základní pravidla architektury, ve která věřím, jsou stále platná.

Mohu říci, že jednoduchost a jasnost kamenné struktury, která pokračuje v dominantním tématu městské architektury, představují správnou myšlenku na správném místě. Tutti questi aspetti hanno svolto un ruolo importante nell’architettura moderna di Brno e sono felicissimo che quest’opera di Archteam sia stata apprezzata a livello internazionale. Sono lieto di poter dire che se un progetto si basa su un design sobrio, con assi espressi in maniera chiara e con un concetto spaziale semplice e ovvio, allora le regole fondamentali dell’architettura in cui credo sono ancora valide.

FACILITES FOR A BIOTOPE PROKŠ PŘIKRYL ARCHITEKTI É raro que uma série de arquitectos concordem de forma independente sobre a qualidade do mesmo design. Este foi o caso da renovação da uma herdade em Honětice. Se observarmos o complexo mais de perto e em profundidade, descobrimos uma harmoniosa consonância numa estrutura simples e limpa, espaços claramente segmentados, e materiais convencionais utilizados de forma soberba e inteligente. A relação com os edifícios existentes, a paisagem circundante, o lago e o recinto agora renovado são atualmente únicos. Devo dizer que se me tivessem encarregado de um trabalho parecido, ter-meia empenhado em conseguir um objetivo semelhante ao magistralmente alcançado por estes arquitectos. Raramente senti algo assim. E poucas vezes estive de acordo de forma tão clara com diferentes arquitetos de que este é o modo mais certo. Estou muito satisfeito pois também na República Checa as renovações se estão a tornar numa das direções mais importantes da arquitetura; e se as novas partes apoiam de forma natural as já existentes, então creio que a arquitetura está a voltar à sua missão, depois de décadas e décadas de ruína e devastação: a de ser uma fonte de sentimentos positivos de vida, de buscar caminhos futuros e de assegurar relações sólidas na sociedade.
FACILITES FOR A BIOTOPE PROKŠ PŘIKRYL ARCHITEKTI Hay pocos casos en los que varios arquitectos se ponen de acuerdo sobre la calidad de un mismo diseño. Este ha sido uno de ellos, el de la renovación de la granja en Honětice. Si uno observa el conjunto desde una perspectiva más cercana y en detalle, descubrirá que se trata de una consonancia muy armoniosa de una estructura sencilla y clara, con espacios claramente segmentados y un uso soberbio e inteligente de materiales convencionales. La relación entre los edificios existentes, el entorno, el estanque y el edificio recientemente renovado es única hoy en día. Debo afirmar que si me hubieran encargado una tarea similar, me hubiera esforzado por conseguir un objetivo parecido al que estos caballeros han alcanzado de manera tan magistral. En pocas ocasiones he experimentado esta sensación. Y no suelo estar de acuerdo con otros arquitectos de manera tan clara en que este es el camino correcto. Me congratula saber que, también en la República Checa, las renovaciones se convierten en una de las direcciones más importantes de la arquitectura, y que si las partes nuevas soportan las existentes de manera natural, considero entonces que la arquitectura ha recuperado su misión después de décadas de ruina y devastación: ser una fuente de sentimiento de vida positivo, buscador de caminos hacia el futuro y confirmación de las relaciones sólidas en la sociedad.

Todas elas são características que desempenharam um importante papel na arquitetura moderna em Brno, e estou muito satisfeito por que este trabalho da Archteam tenha conseguido uma resposta internacional. É para mim um prazer poder dizer que quando um projeto se baseia num design soberbo, em eixos claramente expressos, e num conceito espacial simples e óbvio, então as regras fundamentais da arquitetura nas quais eu acredito ainda são válidas.

Para mí es un placer descubrir que si un proyecto se basa en un diseño sobrio, con ejes expresados claramente, y un concepto espacial obvio y sencillo, entonces las reglas fundamentales de la arquitectura en la que creo siguen siendo válidas.

Posso afirmar que a simplicidade e a clareza da estrutura de pedra, que continua os temas dominantes da arquitetura da cidade, é verdadeiramente a ideia certa no sítio certo. A generosidade acompanhada pela harmonia é uma bela combinação e sinto-me satisfeito pelo facto de que projetos como este surjam, de vez em quando, na arquitetura checa.

Puedo afirmar que la sencillez y claridad de la estructura de piedra, que siguen siendo los temas principales de la arquitectura de la ciudad, es claramente la idea adecuada en el lugar adecuado. La generosidad unida a la armonía es una combinación valiosa y me alegra confirmar que tales proyectos aparezcan en la arquitectura checa de vez en cuando.

ANNEAU DE LA MEMOIRE PHILIPPE PROST ARCHITECTE The international memorial for the centenary of the First World War is a beautiful demonstration of the liveliness of modern architecture by providing a vehicle for a strong monumental symbolism. This impeccable execution succeeds in imbuing materiality into the demands of the architect: “shaping brotherhood. Not a celebration of the winners but an evocation of the shared suffering through metal plaques without any distinction of origin or nationality. Expressing peace, silence, serene horizontality. Part in an unstable position above a void to represent the fragility of peace.” It is a strong, evident, serene monument of great aesthetic and symbolic force that is very apt at this moment when immaterial forms of commemoration are imposed more and more frequently.
ANNEAU DE LA MEMOIRE PHILIPPE PROST ARCHITECTE Le mémorial international du centenaire de la Première Guerre Mondiale est une belle démonstration de la vivacité de l’architecture moderne à véhiculer une forte symbolique monumentale. Cette impeccable réalisation réussit à donner une matérialité aux exigences de l’architecte : « donner une forme à la fraternité. Ne pas célébrer les vainqueurs mais évoquer la souffrance partagée à travers les plaques de métal, sans distinction d’origine ni de nationalité. Donner une expression à la paix, un silence, une sereine horizontalité. Une partie en porte-à-faux audessus du vide pour signifier la fragilité de la paix. » C’est un monument fort, évident, serein, d’une grande force esthétique et symbolique qui vient à pic en ce moment où s’imposent de plus en plus les formes immatérielles de commémoration.
EURAVENIR TOWER LAN ARCHITECTES In the context of an accumulation of simple volumes in silent discretion, this office and shopping programme emerges to play the role of visual axis and signpost on a plot structured by a very open angle facing the bridge linking to the Euralille station. The shops ensure the necessary continuity of the public space by bordering the entire length of the terrain. This horizontal serves as an anchor to a rising vertical volume generated by the alternation of transparent and opaque sections and by the gradual reduction in volume as it rises. The rust-red colouring unifies the ensemble, while the subtle interweaving of materials, the horizontal band separating and releasing all three levels, the placement of the glazed and metallic surfaces, everything imbues the structure with an astounding visual richness of rare elegance, varied changing perspectives,… a true building in movement.
DIALOGUE ENTRE MATIÈRE ET PAYSAGE A + SAMUEL DELMAS ARCHITECTES The architects sought to diminish the impact of such a volume of offices and laboratories to integrate it better into the landscape of the small town of Nozay. The multitude of pitched slate roofs creates a vibration that the roof of the new building extends with talent. The fine, rigorous vertical outline and profile of the zinc façades gives a strong sense of unity to the ensemble, complemented horizontally by the vast blue stone plane providing the access space. This building manages to remain compact and closed while hollowing out an open space in the entrance and loggias from which stem the internal circulations on the four façades. HENRI CIRIANI
EURAVENIR TOWER LAN ARCHITECTES Au milieu d’une accumulation de volumes simples de silencieuse discrétion s’insère ce programme de bureaux et commerces qui joue un rôle d’axe visuel et de signal sur une parcelle tenue par un angle très ouvert face au pont reliant la gare d’Euralille. Les commerces assurent la nécessaire continuité de l’espace public en bordant le terrain sur toute sa longueur. Cette horizontale sert d’ancrage à un volume en verticale ascendante générée par l’alternance de pans transparents et opaques et par la réduction progressive du volume vers le haut. La couleur rouille donne son unité à l’ensemble, tandis que la subtilité du tramage des matériaux, le bandeau horizontal qui sépare et libère tous les trois niveaux l’emplacement des surfaces vitrées et métalliques, tout ceci donne à l’édifice une richesse visuelle étonnante, d’une rare élégance, des perspectives changeantes, variées… un vrai édifice en mouvement.
DIALOGUE ENTRE MATIÈRE ET PAYSAGE A + SAMUEL DELMAS ARCHITECTES Les architectes cherchèrent à diminuer l’impact d’un tel volume de bureaux et laboratoires pour mieux s’intégrer au paysage de la petite ville de Nozay. La multitude de toits en pente recouverts d’ardoise crée une vibration que le toit du nouvel édifice prolonge avec talent. La fine et rigoureuse modénature verticale des façades en zinc procure une forte unité à l’ensemble qui se complète à l’horizontale par le vaste plan en pierre bleue qui devient l’espace d’accès. Ce bâtiment réussit à rester compact et fermé tout en s’ouvrant en creux à l’entrée et dans les loggias sur lesquelles dérivent les circulations intérieures des quatre façades. HENRI CIRIANI

ANNEAU DE LA MEMOIRE PHILIPPE PROST ARCHITECTE Mezinárodní památník ke stému výročí První světové války je krásnou ukázkou živosti moderní architektury, která nese silnou symboliku. Tento skvělý počin dokázal zhmotnit nároky architekta: „dát určitou formu bratrství. Neoslavovat vítěze, ale vyjádřit sdílené utrpení prostřednictvím kovových desek, bez rozdílu původu či národnosti. Vyjádřit mír, ticho, klidnou horizontalitu. Část přesahující do prázdna vyjadřuje křehkost míru.“ Jedná se o silný, zřejmý, poklidný pomník s obrovskou estetickou a symbolickou silou, který přichází ve chvíli, kdy se prosazují čím dál tím častěji nemateriální formy vzpomínkových slavností.

Questa impeccabile opera riesce a dare materialità alle esigenze dell’architetto: “Dare forma alla fraternità. Non celebrare i vincitori, bensì evocare la sofferenza condivisa attraverso le piastre di metallo, senza distinzioni per origini o nazionalità. Dare espressione alla pace, in silenzio, con serena orizzontalità. Una parte di sghembo sul vuoto, che rappresenta la fragilità della pace”. Si tratta di un monumento forte, evidente, sereno, dalla grande forza estetica e simbolica che calza a pennello in un momento in cui s’impongono sempre di più modelli immateriali di commemorazione.
EURAVENIR TOWER LAN ARCHITECTES Uprostřed jednoduchých a tichých objemů se prosazuje tento projekt kanceláří a obchodů, který představuje vizuální a signální osu na pozemku s velmi otevřeným úhlem vůči mostu, který jej spojuje s nádražím Euralille. Obchody zajišťují potřebnou kontinuitu veřejného prostoru a lemují terén po celé délce. Tato horizontální linie slouží pro ukotvení vzestupného vertikálního objemu, který je vytvářen střídáním průhledných a neprůhledných kusů a postupnou redukcí objemu směrem nahoru. Celek spojuje rezavá barva, zatímco subtilita propojení materiálů, horizontální pás, který odděluje a uvolňuje všechny tři úrovně, umístění prosklených a kovových ploch, to vše dodává budově překvapivou vizuální bohatost, ojedinělou eleganci, měnící perspektivy, rozmanitost... zkrátka skutečná budova v pohybu. DIALOGUE ENTRE MATIÈRE ET PAYSAGE A + SAMUEL DELMAS ARCHITECTES Architekti se snaží snížit dopad takového množství kanceláří a laboratoří a lépe integrovat celek do krajiny malého města Nozay. Množství šikmých břidlicových střech vytváří vibrace, které střecha nové generace úspěšně podtrhuje. Tenký a pevný profil vertikální římsy zinkových fasád poskytuje celku silnou jednotu, která je v horizontální úrovni doplněna širokou plochou z modrých kamenů, jež slouží jako přístupové místo. Tato budova dokázala zůstat kompaktní a uzavřená a zároveň se otevřít v oblasti vchodu a lodžií, odkud vychází vnitřní okruhy čtyř fasád. HENRI CIRIANI
EURAVENIR TOWER LAN ARCHITECTES Al centro di un cumulo di volumi semplici silenziosamente discreti si inserisce questo programma di uffici e negozi che funge da asse visivo e segnale su un appezzamento tenuto da un angolo molto aperto di fronte al ponte che lo collega alla stazione di Euralille. I negozi offrono la continuità necessaria dello spazio pubblico che fiancheggia il terreno per tutta la sua lunghezza. Questo asse orizzontale funge da ancoraggio con un volume verticale ascendente generato dall’alternanza di lati trasparenti e opachi e dalla riduzione progressiva del volume verso l’alto. Il colore ruggine unifica tutto l’insieme, mentre la sottigliezza dell’intreccio dei materiali, la fascia orizzontale che separa e libera i tre livelli, la collocazione delle superfici vetrate e metalliche, tutto ciò conferisce all’edificio una ricchezza visiva sorprendente, di rara eleganza, prospettive cangianti, diverse... un vero e proprio edificio in movimento. DIALOGUE ENTRE MATIÈRE ET PAYSAGE A + SAMUEL DELMAS ARCHITECTES Gli architetti hanno cercato di ridurre l’impatto di questo volume di uffici e laboratori per integrarli meglio nel paesaggio della cittadina di Nozay. La moltitudine di tetti in pendenza ricoperti di ardesia crea una vibrazione che il tetto del nuovo edificio prolunga, con maestria. La sottile e rigorosa modanatura verticale delle facciate in zinco offre una forte unità all’insieme, completata sul piano orizzontale dall’ampio piano in pietra azzurra, che diventa lo spazio di accesso. Questo edificio riesce a rimanere compatto e chiuso, aprendosi al tempo stesso, concavo, sull’entrata e nelle logge da cui derivano le circolazioni interne delle quattro facciate. HENRI CIRIANI

Esta impecável realização consegue dar uma materialidade às exigências da arquitetura: “dar forma à fraternidade. Não celebrar os vencedores mas evocar o sofrimento partilhado através das placas de metal, sem distinção de origem nem de nacionalidade. Dar uma expressão à paz, um silêncio, uma serena horizontalidade. EURAVENIR TOWER LAN ARCHITECTES No meio de uma acumulação de volumes simples, de silenciosa discrição, insere-se este programa de escritórios e comércios que tem um papel de eixo visual e de sinal sobre uma passarela sustentada por um ângulo muito aberto face à ponte que leva à estação de Euralille. Os comércios, situados no comprimento total do terreno, asseguram a necessidade contínua de espaço público. Esta horizontal serve de ancoragem a um volume na vertical ascendente gerada pela alternância de secções transparentes e opacas e pela redução progressiva do volume para cima. A cor de ferrugem dá uma unidade ao conjunto, enquanto a sutileza do entrançado dos materiais, a faixa horizontal que separa e liberta cada três níveis a colocação das superfícies vidradas e metálicas, dão uma riqueza visual surpreendente, de uma rara elegância ao edifício, perspectivas variáveis, variadas... um verdadeiro edifício em movimento.
EURAVENIR TOWER LAN ARCHITECTES En medio de una acumulación de volúmenes sencillos de discreción silenciosa, se inscribe este programa de oficinas y comercios que desempeña un papel de eje visual y de señal en un terreno con un ángulo muy abierto frente al puente que une la estación de Euralille. Los comercios garantizan la necesaria continuidad del espacio público al bordear el terreno en toda su longitud. Esta horizontal sirve como ancla a un volumen en vertical ascendente creado por la alternancia de piezas transparentes y opacas y por la reducción progresiva del volumen hacia arriba. El color óxido unifica el conjunto, mientras que la sutileza de la trama de materiales, la banda horizontal que separa y libera los tres niveles, la colocación de las superficies acristaladas y metálicas, otorga al edificio una riqueza visual sorprendente, de una elegancia inusual, perspectivas cambiantes, variadas... Un auténtico edificio en movimiento.
DIALOGUE ENTRE MATIÈRE ET PAYSAGE A + SAMUEL DELMAS ARCHITECTES Os arquitetos procuram diminuir o impacto de um volume tão grande de escritórios e laboratórios para uma melhor integração na paisagem da pequena cidade de Nozay. A multiplicidade de telhados inclinados em ardósia cria uma vibração prolongada com talento pelo telhado de um novo edifício. O fino e rigoroso ornamento vertical das fachadas em zinco confere uma forte unidade ao conjunto, completado na horizontal por um vasto plano em pedra azul que se transforma em espaço de acesso. Este edifício consegue manter-se compacto e fechado, ao mesmo tempo que se abre em cavidade à entrada e nas sacadas sobre as quais desembocam as circulações interiores das quatro fachadas.
DIALOGUE ENTRE MATIÈRE ET PAYSAGE A + SAMUEL DELMAS ARCHITECTES El objetivo de los arquitectos era reducir el impacto del volumen de las oficinas y laboratorios para integrarlo mejor en el paisaje de la pequeña ciudad de Nozay. La multitud de tejados de teja en pendiente crea una vibración que el tejado del nuevo edificio prolonga con talento. La fina y rigurosa moldura vertical de las fachadas de zinc brinda una fuerte unidad de conjunto que se completa en horizontal por el vasto plano en piedra azul que se convierte en la zona de acceso. Este edificio logra mantenerse compacto y cerrado, aunque se abre con el vacío de la entrada y en las logias en las que derivan las circulaciones interiores de las cuatro fachadas.

Italy has traditionally been the custodian of the design codes applicable to all good architecture projects. Over time, architects have come visiting, in an endless pilgrimage, to study and understand its buildings in depth. However, as happens in all artistic manifestations, there have been ups and downs. And now, after a few years in which Italy’s role in contemporary architecture had become somewhat less relevant, our country has returned to centre stage internationally.
De manière traditionnelle, l’Italie a été la gardienne des éléments constitutifs de projets applicables à toute bonne œuvre d’architecture. Au fil des années, les architectes s’y sont déplacés en pèlerinage pour mieux connaître et étudier ses édifices. Mais comme dans toute manifestation artistique, les différentes étapes ont été inégales et après des années dans lesquelles elle a vu son rôle prépondérant se ternir dans l’architecture contemporaine, l’Italie d’aujourd’hui est revenue occuper sa place au premier rang du panorama international.
As an example of this relevance, we can cite the designs recognized in the present edition of the BMIAA. Three responses for three different scales of project. On the one hand, a mountain shelter, highlighting the intimate relationship between architecture and distant landscape; on the other hand, the rehabilitation of a former factory reused as a research centre and, finally, a new construction for the central headquarters of a multinational. In the first case, the Pedevilla Pliscia 13 represents the learning, through a process of refinement, of a certain architectural model, that of a high-altitude mountain refuge. In this case, the traditional elements, such as the pitched roof, the covered gallery dominating the landscape or the function of the protective window or the thick gap used to frame the landscape, have in effect been brilliantly revisited in this project. Just as has happened in other important architectures of the past, this house complements the landscape, reaffirms it, concludes its construction. In the second design, the Technopole for Industrial Research Shed #19 resolves a very contemporary problem in the lack of use given to some industrial complexes left in the deepest neglect. In this case, the brilliance of the proposal lies in understanding our industrial past as an archaeological layer that will be re-activated in this architectural project. To do so, the architectural mechanism used to activate the space will be the rooftop plane that will tie the whole proposal together, both the refurbished building in a single volume as well as the new elements of the functional programme inserted in it. Finally, the building for the headquarters in Italy of the multinational Faber has been resolved through an Hshaped structure with each of the arms out of sync and linked by the access area. This arrangement generates an interesting spatial tension between each of its volumes and the two garden spaces remaining in the middle. In effect, this design reflects on how work space is capable of establishing a dialogue on a built-up landscape.
Les projets lauréats de cette édition du prix BMIAA sont un exemple de ce regain d’importance. Trois propositions relatives à trois échelles différentes. D’un côté, un refuge de montagne où la relation intime entre l’architecture et le paysage lointain est mise en relief, d’un autre borrar, la réhabilitation d’une ancienne usine transformée en centre de recherche et finalement, un nouvel édifice qui sera le siège d’une compagnie multinationale. Dans le premier cas, La Pedevilla Pliscia 13 représente l’apprentissage, à travers un processus décanté, d’un modèle architectural déterminé, celui du refuge de haute montagne. Car effectivement, les éléments traditionnels comme le toit incliné, la galerie couverte qui domine le paysage, la fonction de la fenêtre protectrice ou l’ouverture épaisse qui sert comme cadre au paysage ont été brillamment revisités dans ce projet. Au fait, de même que nous le voyons dans les architectures importantes du passé, cette maison vient compléter le paysage, le réaffirmer et finir de le construire. Le second projet, l’édifice Technopole for Industrial Research Shed #19 vient résoudre un problème contemporain comme le manque d’utilisation de certains complexes industriels qui sont voués à l’abandon le plus total. Dans ce cas, le génie de la proposition réside dans le fait de comprendre le passé industriel comme une couche archéologique qui sera réactivée au sein du projet architectural. Pour cela, le mécanisme architectural utilisé comme activateur de l’espace sera la toiture qui conjuguera toute la proposition en unifiant l’édifice réhabilité en une seule nef et les nouvelles pièces du programme fonctionnel qui y sont insérées. Finalement, la résolution de l’édifice du siège central en Italie de la multinationale Faber s’appuie sur une pièce en H où les ailes sont déphasées et reliées par la pièce d’accès. Cette disposition crée une tension spatiale intéressante entre chacun des deux volumes et les deux zones vertes qui se situent au milieu de ceux-ci. Car effectivement, ce projet est une réflexion sur comment l’espace de travail peut être capable de dialoguer sur le paysage construit.
Through these three shortlisted projects, Italy is confirming a renewed attitude regarding architectural projects enabling thoughts of a new stage in contemporary Italian architecture.
Le BigMat International Architecture Award, à travers ces trois projets lauréats, représente en Italie une nouvelle attitude face au projet architectural global qui rend possible de penser à une nouvelle étape de l’architecture contemporaine italienne.

Itálie byla tradičně opatrovníkem klíčových prvků aplikovatelných na všechna dobrá architektonická díla. V průběhu času architekti jezdili do Itálie na zkušenou, aby poznali a mohli do hloubky studovat zdejší budovy. Ale jak tomu bývá u všech uměleckých projevů, i zde byly nerovnoměrné etapy. A nyní se Itálie, poté, co v průběhu několika let ztratila svou významnou roli v oblasti soudobé architektury, vrací na výsluní mezinárodní scény.
Per tradizione, l’Italia è sempre stata la custode delle chiavi progettuali applicabili a qualsiasi opera architettonica di qualità. Storicamente, gli architetti si sono spostati in pellegrinaggio per conoscere e studiare in profondità i suoi edifici. Tuttavia, come avviene per qualsiasi manifestazione artistica, vi sono state fasi discontinue. In questo momento l’Italia, dopo alcuni anni in cui il suo ruolo di rilievo nell’architettura contemporanea era poco a poco svanito, torna ad essere una protagonista di prim’ordine del panorama internazionale.
Příkladem tohoto návratu mohou být projekty oceněné v rámci letošního ročníku BMIAA. Tři odpovědi pro tři různé styly projektu. Na jedné straně útočiště, kde do popředí vystupuje intimní vztah mezi architekturou a vzdálenou krajinou, na druhé straně rehabilitace staré továrny, jež se stává centrem výzkumu a nakonec nová stavba pro centrální sídlo nadnárodní společnosti. První případ, La Pedevilla Pliscia 13 představuje učení, prostřednictvím odlití určitého architektonického modelu, chaty - útočiště ve vysokých horách. Protože základní tradiční prvky jako jsou šikmá střecha, krytá galerie, jež dominuje krajině, nebo ochranná funkce okna nebo široký otvor sloužící pro vymezení krajiny, byly v tomto projektu skvěle zrekonstruovány. Protože stejně jako u jiných architektur minulosti, tato chata doplňuje krajinu, upevňuje ji a dotváří její ráz. V druhém případě budova Technopole for Industrial Research Shed #19, řeší soudobý problém jako je nedostatek použití jednotlivých průmyslových komplexů, které většinou zůstávají opuštěné. V tomto případě dokonalost návrhu spočívá v pochopení průmyslové minulosti jako archeologické vrstvy, která bude reaktivovaná v rámci architektonického projektu. Proto architektonickým mechanismem používaným jako aktivátor prostoru bude rovina krytiny, která sjednotí celý návrh, jak zrekonstruovanou jednolodní budovu, tak nové díly funkčního programu, které jsou dovnitř začleněné. A nakonec budova pro hlavní sídlo mezinárodní společnosti Faber v Itálii je řešena pomocí dílu do H, kde jsou jednotlivá ramena posunutá a propojená vstupním dílem. Toto rozvržení vytváří prostorové napětí mezi jednotlivými objemy a parkově upravenými prostory, které jsou uprostřed. Tento projekt totiž přemýšlí o tom, jak je pracovní prostor schopný vést dialog s vystavěnou krajinou. BigMat International Architecture Award, prostřednictvím těchto tří oceněných projektů , v Itálii podpořila nový přístup k architektonickému projektu, díky kterému můžeme přemýšlet o nové etapě soudobé italské architektury. I progetti premiati nella presente edizione del BMIAA sono un esempio di questa sua rilevanza. Tre risposte per tre progetti di diverse dimensioni. Da una parte, una baita dalla quale emerge la relazione intima fra architettura e paesaggio lontano, dall’altra, la ristrutturazione di una vecchia fabbrica, adibita a centro di ricerca e infine un nuovo edificio per la sede principale di una multinazionale. Nel primo caso, La Pedevilla Pliscia 13 rappresenta l’apprendimento, attraverso un processo decantato, di un determinato modello architettonico, quello della baita d’alta montagna. Perché effettivamente gli elementi tradizionali quali la copertura inclinata, la galleria coperta che domina il paesaggio o la funzione della finestra protettrice o dello spesso foro che funge da cornice per il paesaggio, sono stati rivisitati in maniera brillante. Perché, come avviene in altre importanti opere architettoniche del passato, questa casa completa il paesaggio, lo riafferma e ne rifinisce la costruzione. Nel secondo caso, l’edificio Technopole for Industrial Research Shed #19 risolve un problema contemporaneo, quello della mancata utilizzazione di alcuni complessi industriali, che nella maggior parte dei casi vengono abbandonati. In questa occasione, l’arguzia della proposta risiede nella comprensione del passato industriale, come strato archeologico che viene riattivato all’interno del progetto architettonico. Per farlo, il meccanismo architettonico utilizzato come attivatore dello spazio è il piano della copertura, che unifica tutta la proposta mettendo insieme sia l’edificio ristrutturato, composto da un solo capannone, sia i nuovi elementi del programma funzionale, inseriti al suo interno. Infine, l’edificio per la sede italiana della multinazionale Faber si risolve mediante un elemento ad H, con entrambi i bracci sfasati e collegati dall’elemento di ingresso. Questa disposizione crea un’interessante tensione spaziale fra ognuno dei volumi e i due spazi con giardino che rimangono al centro. Perché di fatto questo progetto riflette su come lo spazio di lavoro sia capace di dialogare sopra un paesaggio edificato. Il BigMat International Architecture Award, attraverso questi tre progetti premiati, conferma un rinnovato atteggiamento dell’Italia verso i progetti architettonici, che consente di pensare ad una nuova fase dell’architettura contemporanea italiana. Tradicionalmente, Itália foi a guardiã das chaves projetuais aplicáveis a toda boa obra de arquitetura. Ao longo do tempo, os arquitetos viajaram em peregrinação para conhecer e estudar em profundidade os seus edifícios. Mas como acontece em qualquer manifestação artística, houve etapas desiguais. E agora Itália, após uns anos em que se tinha esbatido o seu papel relevante na arquitetura contemporânea, voltou ao primeiro plano internacional.
Tradicionalmente, Italia ha sido la custodia de las claves proyectuales aplicables a toda buena obra de arquitectura. A lo largo del tiempo, los arquitectos han acudido, en peregrinación a conocer y estudiar en profundidad sus edificios. Pero como sucede en toda manifestación artística, ha habido etapas desiguales. Y ahora Italia, tras unos años donde se había desdibujado su papel relevante en la arquitectura contemporánea, ha regresado al primer plano internacional.
Como exemplo desta relevância aparecem os projetos premiados na presente edição do BMIAA. Três respostas para três escalas de projeto diferentes. Por um lado, uma casarefúgio, onde sobressai a relação íntima entre arquitetura e paisagem longínqua, por outro lado, a reabilitação de una antiga fábrica reutilizada como centro de investigação e, finalmente, uma nova construção para a sede central de uma multinacional. No primeiro dos casos, La Pedevilla Pliscia 13 representa a aprendizagem, através de um processo decantado, de um determinado modelo arquitetónico, o da casa-refúgio em alta montanha. Porque, efetivamente, os elementos tradicionais, como podem ser o telhado inclinado, a galeria coberta que domina a paisagem ou a função da janela protetora ou da caixa grossa que emoldura uma paisagem, foram revisitados de forma brilhante neste projeto. Porque como acontece noutras importantes arquiteturas do passado, esta casa vem completar a paisagem, reafirmá-la, acabar de a construir.

Porque, efectivamente, los elementos tradicionales, como pueden ser la cubierta inclinada, la galería a cubierto que domina el paisaje o la función de la ventana protectora o del hueco grueso que sirve para enmarcar un paisaje, han sido revisitados de forma brillante en este proyecto. Porque como pasa en otras importantes arquitecturas del pasado, esta casa viene a completar el paisaje, a reafirmarlo, a terminar de construirlo.
No segundo deles, o edifício Technopole for Industrial Research Shed #19 dá uma solução a um problema contemporâneo como é a falta de utilização de certos complexos industriais que ficam no maior dos abandonos. Neste caso, a brilhantez da proposta reside em perceber o passado industrial como uma camada arqueológica que será reativada dentro do projeto arquitetónico. Para isso, o mecanismo arquitetónico utilizado como ativador do espaço é o plano do telhado que unifica toda a proposta juntando, tanto o edifício reabilitado de um único entreposto, como as novas peças de programa funcional inseridas nele.
En el segundo de ellos, el edificio Technopole for Industrial Research Shed #19, viene a solucionar un problema contemporáneo como es la falta de uso de algunos complejos industriales que quedan en el mayor de los abandonos. En este caso, la brillantez de la propuesta se encuentra en entender el pasado industrial como una capa arqueológica que será reactivada dentro del proyecto arquitectónico. Para ello, el mecanismo arquitectónico utilizado como activador del espacio será el plano de cubierta que unificará toda la propuesta unificando, tanto el edificio rehabilitado de una única nave, como las nuevas piezas de programa funcional insertadas en ella.
Por último, o edifício para a sede central na Itália da multinacional Faber, resolvido através de uma peça em H com cada um dos braços desfasados e enlaçados pela peça de acesso. Esta disposição gera uma interessante tensão espacial entre cada um dos volumes e os dois espaços ajardinados que ficam no meio dos mesmos. Porque este projeto reflete efetivamente sobre a capacidade de diálogo do espaço de trabalho sobre uma paisagem construída.
Finalmente, el edificio para la sede central en Italia de la multinacional Faber se resuelve a través de una pieza en H con cada uno de los brazos desfasados y enlazados por la pieza de acceso. Esta disposición genera una interesante tensión espacial entre cada uno de los volúmenes y los dos espacios ajardinados que quedan en el medio de los mismos. Porque, efectivamente, este proyecto reflexiona sobre cómo el espacio del trabajo es capaz de dialogar sobre un paisaje construido.

It associates a clear sense of spatialness with materiality. Construction based on small elements still controls the surrounding public space by increasing its value.
CASA DA SEVERA JOSÉ ADRIÃO C’est une intervention qui a lieu sur un édifice historique et connu de la ville, et qui lui confère une valeur et une expérience au sein du tissu urbain. Elle associe à la matérialité une spécificité claire. La construction faite de petits éléments contrôle encore l’espace public en rehaussant sa valeur.
THE DOVECOTE AZO SEQUEIRA ARQUITECTOS ASSOCIADOS, LDA. The intervention proposes an archetypal shape with a very clear materiality, rough, undressed grey concrete, conferring a particular value to pre-existence in granite stone. Poetically arranged in terms of shape and position, it complements the walls in functional and material intelligence.

Cette intervention propose une forme archétypique avec une matérialité très claire, béton gris, brut, à découvert qui donne une valeur particulière à la structure antérieure en granite. It defines a fundamental space in the centre based on the construction of modular elements. A void that confers character on the construction. A project whose experience is built on the complementarity of spaces and on the intelligence of the design of construction voids.
HOUSE IN SÃO FRANCISCO GSMM ARCHITETTI GIORGIO SANTAGOSTINO – MÓNICA MARGARIDO C’est une intervention claire qui s’intègre dans le paysage en profitant de celui-ci pour définir sa poésie. Elle définit un espace fondamental au centre basé sur la construction d’éléments modulaires. Un vide qui donne du caractère à la construction. Un projet qui construit son expérience sur la complémentarité des espaces et sur l’intelligence de la conception du vide dans la construction.

CASA DA SEVERA JOSÉ ADRIÃO Un intervento su un piccolo edificio storico, che lo fa spiccare nel panorama cittadino. Gli conferisce valore ed esperienza nel contesto del tessuto urbano. Associa un chiaro senso di spazialità alla materialità. Una costruzione basata su elementi di dimensioni ridotte, che controlla comunque lo spazio pubblico circostante, aumentandone il valore.
THE DOVECOTE AZO SEQUEIRA ARQUITECTOS ASSOCIADOS, LDA. Zásah nabízí archetypální formu s velmi čistým materiálem. Šedý hrubý pohledový beton, jenž propůjčuje zvláštní váhu původní části z žulového kamene. Svým poetickým rozvržení tvaru i umístěním vnímavě doplňuje zdi z hlediska funkce i materiálu.

Asocia a la materialidad una espacialidad clara. La construcción a base de pequeños elementos controla asimismo el espacio público a su alrededor, ampliando su valor.
THE DOVECOTE AZO SEQUEIRA ARQUITECTOS ASSOCIADOS, LDA. A intervenção propõe uma forma arquetipal com uma materialidade muito clara, betão cinzento, rude, à vista que confere um valor particular à pré-existência em pedra de granito. Poeticamente disposto na forma e posição, complementa os muros numa inteligência funcional e material.

ZAMORA OFFICES ALBERTO CAMPO BAEZA The perimeter wall reproduces precisely the alignments of the plot and provides a natural response to its position in the city, so near the Cathedral. Once these problems were overcome, once a certain freedom was conquered, a new site is generated to enable the architecture of the interior to be expressed independently, both in terms of its geometry and also with respect to its materiality. It is this scaling of the decisions that imbues the project with its most attractive feature.

Une fois ces problèmes résolus et avec un certain degré de liberté conquis, un endroit nouveau est créé qui permet à l’architecture d’interieur de se manifester avec indépendance, aussi bien dans sa géométrie que dans sa matérialité. Po vyřešení těchto problémů, získání určité svobody, se vytváří nový prostor, který umožňuje architektuře interiéru se nezávisle projevit, jak svou geometričností, tak svou materiálností. Díky těmto odstupňovaným rozhodnutím je projekt tak atraktivní.

To build with air, the abiding dream of every architect: Facing the cathedral and following the outline of the former convent’s kitchen garden, we erect a strong stone wall box open to the sky. Its walls and floors entirely made of stone. The very same stone as the Cathedral. A real Hortus Conclusus. We thus achieve a secret garden in which we conserve and plant leafy trees, aromatic plants and flowers. And we open openings in these Stone walls that frame, from within, the cathedral, the landscape and the surrounding buildings. For the stone wall, qualities and dimensions are studied to express the strength of the stone in the same way as it is in the Cathedral. The same stone in large dimensions and with great thickness that accentuate the strength of the proposal. In the corner facing the cathedral, a massive stone measuring 250x150x50 cm, a veritable Cornerstone. And chiselled on that stone: HIC LAPIS ANGULARIS MAIO MMXII POSITO
And in this garden we build a transparent glass box that makes it seem as ifone is working within the garden. Within the stone box, the glass box, only glass. Like a greenhouse. With a double facade similar to a Trombe wall. With maximum simplicity in its construction system. The facade works actively in regard to the climate, able to hold in heat in the winter (greenhouse effect) and at the same time to expel the heat and protect the building in the summer (ventilated facade). The external skin of the facade is made of glass, each single sheet measuring 600x300x2,4 cm and all joined together simply with structural silicone and hardly anything else. As if entirely made of air. The trihedral upper angles of the box are made completely with glass, thus even further accentuating the effect of transparency. Precisely what Mies was looking for in his Friedrichstrasse tower. The trihedron built with air, a true Glass Corner. And engraved in acid on the glass: HOC VITRUM ANGULARIS MAIO MMXII POSITO

The surrounding forest is the starting point for URA to design a simple building which contains all congreontations of the site: open vs. Closed, tres vs. Slipe, materiality vs. Transparency, building vs. environment. The gymnasium is dug into the natural slope. The facade shows the duality of the context: a strong, closed concrete Wall on the one side and a wooden structure with a black Steel plates cladded facade on the other side. These two facades meet in the perspective of the stage-stair. The surrounding trees are seen from different perspectives. “Going to the gym” confronts the pupils (again) with the basic elements of the nature.

Water towers are infrastructures that transcend their technical purpose and help to shape the greater landscape. Water towers, built for the most part in the 20th century, are usually cut parts developed from a simple extrusion or the revolution of a profile around a central axis. Although this conception generates a simple,rational image of dominion by evoking a repeatedly enlarged recipient, it stems from a logic whereby the liquid contained takes precedence over the landscape. The client wanted seize this rare moment, the construction of a new water tower, to create a project that would the question the figure that water towers cut, be a strong signal and also serve as a landmark for the sizeable Ghlin-Baudour industrial estate. The project serves as a direct response to the function of a water tower, a circular vat of 20m of diameter stands on a platform at a height of 50m. The supporting structure of the platform is formed by an X and a V shape cast out of concrete on site. The 2000m3 vat does not represent a the continuation of the structure but rather an independent structure resting on a support. Hence the platform offers great flexibility in the event of any future reconversion of the wáter tower. The withdrawn vat gives the overhead volume an elegant transparence while the night lights give the floating vat it’s aura of mystery. The imposing structure is enriched by a fragility that is unusual for the strict world of engineering. It casts a dynamic figure that can be observed in a variety of challenging ways by the users of the nearby canal and motorway.

The project is a changing global site integrated into a saturated urban fabric. The building is a tool for creation with an international scope. The complex provides spectators with two halls, one of which is also a rehearsal and creative space with wide openings onto the Place du XX Août. This expression is the contemporary identify of the theatre that inhabits the site. The existing building is used for the audience reception área and for audience services. The grand hall was designed in consideration of the many paramenters governing the theatrical tool. The result is the creation fo a new freestanding tier in the hall, barely supported on the floor and freeing up the walls of any connection points. All the general technical equipment was succesfully integrated to maintain the coherence and spirit of the site.

The guest facilities for this biotope, an increasingly popular man-made swimming pool featuring natural watercleaning technology, uses the original building of a former agricultural collective farm. The guest facilities have been built into former garages once used to house agricultural machinery. Wekept the old reinforced-concrete prefab structure with its ornamental ribbed ceiling, while the area between the columns now serves as a space for refreshments, a cafeteria, sports equipment rental, and sanitary facilities. The whole structure can be easily opened to all sides thanks to large gates embedded into the support modules. When the gates are shut, the façade still works as a semi-permeable filter between the interior and exterior. For the masonry we recycled the old bricks that were used to build the original garages back in 1962. All bricks were made in local brickyards and despite their renown as high-quality products, their manufacture has ceased to exist. Wash troughs, showers and lavatories are from stainless steel are adjusted to fit the camp requirements. Installations are visible, and the space is illuminated by diffused light reflecting off the ceiling. Ventilation is natural. The materials used, the details and the structure itself help to create an informal and fresh atmosphere throughout the whole swimming pool area. The Honětice farmstead has always been a part of the nearby castle in Zdislavice. After World War II, the estate was nationalized and during the Communist-era collectivization period, the layout of the former courtyard was altered. Two main barns were demolished and garages for agricultural machinery were attached. After many years of falling into disrepair, this farm was left in a desolate state. For the past five years the reconstruction ofthe whole complex and its transformation into a new agro-tourism site has been carried out. While it was impossible to restore the original agricultural function of the farmstead, it is possible to revive its social importance.

The building is designed as a simple succint mass located lengthwise by Preslova street. It follows the adjacent existing building in its width as well as length. The compact structure is underlined by the solid concrete walls made from black concrete with large glass surface. The building also serves as the main entrance to the precincts from Preslova street and thanks to its look it evokes the impression of a gateway. The glass surface enables unlimited view of the entire Villa Stiassny premises from the interiors and, at the same time, it enables the view of the premises, through the object, from the street. The compact structure is divided into 2 floors with entrances into both levels. The upper level is accessible from the street. One enters the gallery of a two-floor foyer where visitor information counter with books and a snack bar are located. On the lower level, accessible form the garden, there is a foyer with space for exhibitions and there is also a base for visitors located under the gallery. From the foyer one entres the lecture hall followed by a hall and technical facilities base. Staircase and a lift connect the two levels of the foyer and continue up to the roof terrace which allows visitors to enjoy the spectacular view of Brno. The access into the complex premises is possible through the building itself or using the outside staircase located between the new and the existing building. The area between the buildings is connected by a terrace raised slightly above the garden terrain. The garden-side facade which is open along its whole height is formed by a set of steel-concrete pillars in the shape of the letter X. These have a supporting and reinforcing function and at the same time they are a significant motif of the building, keeping visitors surprised either viewed from the garden or after entering the building from the street.

The Riverbank was neglected and impassable, with remnants of the massive rebuilding from the 1970’s – the era of radical rebuilding of many historical áreas in the Czech Republic. The town of Kadaň owes its origin to the river Ohre and it was tightly connected to it throughout history. The revitalization of the riverbank returns the river to the town for public to enjoy. The result of the project is not only a thorough clean-up and restored accessibility, but it primarily offers a new quality to the town, conditioned by the new situation in the society (it is not possible to bring back the houses of the tanners and dyers). The new quality is brought by various intimate public with different atmosphere and purpose. All these piers, Little squares, and parks are connected by a path for pedestrians and cyclists, which is a part of a large cycle route along the river Ohre. Thanks to the possibility to dock boats in the área under the castle, the pedestrians can meet with cyclists and also with paddlers. There is a historic supporting Wall, in the narrowest part of the área directly under the castle, which survived the 1970’s rebuilding. This Wall served as the basis for the design of this part of revitalization. It was extended and joined with another wall overt the weir downstream the river. Upstream the river, the wall was bridged by a new structure and became the side wall of the newly created space under the bridging called “Zajícûv previs”. Another feature is the main promenade created on the edge of the riverbank wall, which interconnects the whole área. It is broadened into a small square right below the castle, which allows the entrance to the space under the bridging. The promenade continues down the stream to the new pier and then further to the weir. There is a meadow for the visitors to relax on and for hosting open-air events between the promenade and the Ricni Street. The rocky slope under the town’s fortification wall, on which currently goats graze grass, awaits its revitalization along with the whole Spital suburbs before the Zatec gate.

To celebrate the centenary of the First World War an international memorial now stands alongside the national necropolis that was erected in the twentieth century. Grief has given way to calm. It was necessary to Give a shape to brotherhood To reunite those who once were enemies and gather together the 600,000 names of the combatants who fell on the battlefields of the Nord-Pas-de-Calais we chose the figure of the ring, thinking of the circle that is formed when people hold hands. It was necessary to Give expression to peace The choice of horizontality for the memorial appeared selfevident. Firstly in order to respond to the verticality of the lantern tower and furthermore because the horizontal is a sign of balance and a token of timelessness. It was necessary to Unite art and nature in the service of memory On the same site where horrific battles were played out nature has now reclaimed her rights; the memorial will inscribe the memory of the fallen in space and, moreover, will celebrate rediscovered peace. The memorial On the outside, a ribbon of dark concrete, the colour of war, balances on the hill that overlooks the plains of Artois, a horizontal line that traces a 328 metre perimeter surmounted by a lantern tower that is over 50 metres high. On the inside, the light reflects off 500 sheets of gilded metal on which are written the names of the 579,606 combatants, arranged in alphabetical order without any distinction of nationality, rank or creed, united now and forever in their common humanity. The ring is a work of art in every sense of the term: a technical challenge, a monumental work; and art in the sense of artifice competing with nature. The use of a new material – an ultra high performance fibre-reinforced concrete – has made its construction possible and will allow it to defy the passing of time. After visiting the gallery, one can rejoin the surrounding countryside by passing underneath the ring that is cantilevered for almost 60 metres.

The Euravenir Tower project occupies the last free parcel of Phase One of the Euralille Area, which began in 1998 with OMA’s project built in association with Francois Delhays. Is it possible to reassert a city through an architectural project? This bold question was the starting point for the project’s layout. The parcel’s strategic position, located at the intersection of different axes, pushed our research towards a sophisticated solution that acts as a hub, as a stitch that brings together the elements gravitating around it. We strove for a “multiform” architecture whose geometry could provide a specific response to the various challenges tied to the project’s scale, geography and program. The base of the project provides inhabitants and office workers a public space that fosters social interaction; it functions on a human scale. This office project has a very flexible program; form dictates use, ad not vice-versa. Each leve lis organized around a central core that holds all the servant spaces. In order to complete this process of interrelation, the facades were designed to become a series of Windows that provide a 360-degree panorama of the city, framing views of the city’s newer parts, its Green spaces and the downtown. A lattice motif, formed by the bands and the trumeaus, carves the facades. The latter are characterized by different designs in response to their orientation, their usage and their termal requirements. The copper is used as a kind of fixed siding along the opaque or semi-glassed stretches of the facade. It is also present in the form of perforated panels that helps precisely regulate the amount of light penetrating the building.

The project reinterprets the landscape of the region of Nozay for the reason of good incorporation to the terraces of Chesnaie. The site is characterized by its landscape qualities that are fully developed by the project. A placement of the building provides a view over the rooftops of the city below. This configuration of terraces allows good implantation of the building to the sloping site and therefore using the lowest level as parking lots. Presented materials on the site: white stone of Nozay – occurring in various forms in the project. Pedestal of the building is covered by slate and slowly turns into the slate lamed patio. The project is topographically well integrated due to its materials and its hipped-gabled roofs that are inspired by the skyline of the site. Following a bioclimatic design, the architecture of the building is really simple and compact working mostly with orthogonality. The landscape with its undefined boundaries is in contrast with the rhythmic façade elements that work as well as vertical sun shading. This permits to observe the effect of unifying the two environments: mineral and vegetal, as well as the possibility of different points of view. The building is composed of two courts that point to the core of the project. Moreover they bring natural light into the interiors. The openings going through the whole building offer all kind of views in all directions.

Most of the old farms in this hamlet appear to be a pairstyle type, consisting of a tenement and a farm house at least. In this respect the two new buildings of ‘la pedevilla’ make no exception. While the residence is inhabited by the architects Armin Pedevilla and Caroline Willeit with their two children, the adjacent chalet is to be let as a holiday home. The latter, in its sense, can be understood as derivation of a former farm building. Both of the respectfully displaced buildings have been integrated into the hillside’s dominant steepness in the most careful manner Regional ornaments and characteristics, like the gable roof, loggias and the common timber facade were incorporated into the design, yet portrayed deliberately in a most singular and independent rendition. All structural elements of the buildings have been casted in exposed-concrete with an aggregate of dolomite, which is the most common stone in this particular alpine area. Even the applied types of timber, mainly larch and pine, are of regional origin and have been cut at a nearby forest during a particular phase of the moon, at least one year before commencement of construction. The outer timber shell with its inbound loggias has been kept consistently in black, a convincing counterpart to the interior surfaces, where white exposed-concrete walls and ceilings are complementing natural & hand-hewn solid timber flooring, windows, doors and furniture at a quite atmospheric and harmonious interaction. In this area the impressive scenery of the dolomtte mountain ridges are always present, in fact it even seems to become more convincing to the observer as the view into the landscape is supported by heavy timbered window frames. As mentioned by the architects, due to the materials the interior is generating an entirely familiar & protective ambience, which contrasts the all too often bleak climate of the environment.

The new headquarters of Faber Industrie Spa are located at a boundary between an industrial area and farmland, and hence belong to both the industrial and the natural landscape. The aim of the project is to interface both landscapes and acknowledge their different qualities and values. The building consists of two shifted longitudinal volumes linked by an entrance hall. As a result, two “internal” open spaces are created, and controlled by views over the building and over the two landscapes. While one courtyard is “hard”, lined with trees and conceived as a living area, the other courtyard is “soft”, entirely green and free, with an open visual depth eastwards, facing the manufacturing facilities and the mountains towards the Slovenian border. The notion of “double” is mirrored in the section, that is two “S” shapes. The corridor/office plan is inverted on the two levels: one totally blind side and one totally open side are overlapped, giving way to radically shifting open/closed fronts. The eastern head fronts of the office bodies actually highlight the Ssection, while the western head fronts, where fire-exit stairs are accommodated inside wall panels, are closed and silent. The notion of “double” permeates the whole design process, including the façade design. The black skin of Faber building is a product of the designers’ research on abstraction. Although the building is about 100 metres long, it looks “small” as compared to other huge industrial plants. Thanks to the subtle nuances created by four different types of glass and five different types of concrete, the building maintains the rigorous shape and layout of an industrial facility. Then, it will not stand out from the context because of its shape, but only because of the lightness generated by one colour getting degraded as it relates with the surrounding grass, manufacturing plants, the sky and the people. Black concrete is also the main feature of the most important area inside the building: the entrance hall has a large black-onblack terrazzo floor, a “liquid” element helping mirror and connect the two green courtyards together.

The Officine Reggiane represent a significant milestone in the industrial history of Reggio Emilia. The plant started in 1904 producing rolling sotck but during the First Wold War the production was converted to war aircraft. This was the reason for the bombardment in 1944. After the destruction, a big crisis determined the end of the Reggiane glorious life. The architectural context of the old Officine Reggiane área is dynamic. Shed 19 was the result of multiple additions. Today the sense of decay in Offcine Reggiane and abandonment is mostly perceived through silence. Shed 19 is like an old abandoned theatre, whose empty stage mysteriously keeps releasing emotions. The preservation must involve not only the building in itself, but also the remains of the industrial process, stains, mural writings and imperfections. The project is an extended cover structure that finds their full expression in the delimited empty space. Th escale relation between man and Factory is sized by the incorporation of the wooden volumes, scanning the functional sequence of laboratorios and halls. The roof covering mediate also the relationship between Factory and context: like a mantle reaches the ground, embracing the new volumes and paying respect to the historic shape of the facades decorated with murals by artista Blu. Outside, the formal coherence with the catheral-like typology of the building is achieved by he combination of service volumes. Inside, the foyer and the conference-room spaces are separated by opaque and transparent screens. The laboratorios are hosted in wooden modeules of high technological content. All elements are subordinated to the historic architecture to allow the preservation of the building’s syntax. Relationships and research stand on common ground. Form and function underline the relational quality by dynamicity of volumes and spaces, always in touch with its memory. The historical architecture of the Technopole, definitely plays the role of a public building, an urban fortress serving the city and the community.

The proposal has as its goal the transformation of a housing unit located at Largo da Severa, Mouraria distric, Lisbon, into a cultural equipment called Casa da Severa. The building, originally composed of three Storey and an attic and a total of six independent apartments, presented several structural problems as well as scarce living conditions, such as precarious sanitation facilities and very small and narrow spaces. In order to adapt it to its new programme, we’ve opted to demolish its whole interior, preserving the facade and its strong presence in the urban fabric of the área. Casa da Severa features a café/restaurant that can be accessed directly from the square by a staircase, which acts as a continuation of the public space. Its main room takes part of the máximum height available taking advantage of having hollowed its interior, having at its highest point 6,50 m. One of the walls of its interior is prepared for video projection. The ground-floor is where technical áreas are located, kitchen, lavatory and storage. An elevator allows for disabled people to Access all the spaces. The external staircase acts as an extensión of the inner space. Due to its reduced dimensión, only 24 m2, we’ve opted to allow for its extensión towards the outside. On warm days, fado can be sungo n the upper outdoor landing, transforming i tinto a stage that opens towards the square and into the city.

This is an emotional design. Our client asked us to reforma n old doecote in the backyard of his home. We decided to propose a play house for the children and a balneary to serve the pool on the ground floor. The whole family loved the idea. We wanted a play room inspired by magic, fantasy and also by the childhood dreams and memories… We decided to transform the old dovecote in a minimal concrete “tree house” that represent these memories and fantasies of pure and peaceful way. We look for a way that seemed the main volumen is levitating as a tree house but simultaneously it had to be balanced and pure. The idea was that the interior was absent of superfluous elements and were gradually decorated by the Works and toys of these children as a reflection of consumer society we are experiencing. Some elements remained of the original building as the triangular window through which entered doves. Inspired by childhood dreams, we want to highlight with this small building the peace, the balance and the simplicty that are so needed in a particularly agitated and violent period that we are living.

Located in the Serra de Grandola, the site is characterised by a dense cork oak and pines forest that dominates the accentuated slope of the landscape on a promontory facing west. The settlement of the new construction is strictly related to the topography and the surrounding landscape. The compact shape that characterises the house, aims to limit human intervention in the uncontaminated area. The boundary between the landscape and the volume of the house is clear. The spaces are organised in a single floor around a square courtyard that through large transparent surfaces and wide loggias open to and reflects the landscape. The house is designed to exploits the maximum permitted volume, optimises and rationalises its spaces: a sequence of rooms – there are no corridors – of very similar size face onto the courtyard, which is in turn conceived as another room but without a roof. There are no particular hierarchies between the spaces. Only the bathrooms, technical spaces and kitchen have a specific function: the other rooms are free of function. The holiday home becomes an opportunity to live in a different way, defying the traditional balances and relations of the home.

This project was born from a competition held in the year 2003 in which Joan Puigcorbé, architect from Ripoll,, joined the RCR team from Olot, located 440 meters above sea level. The competition was summoned by the town hall which like any self-respecting politicians could count on the disagreement of the opposition political party. The aim was clearly a square, a space for life and citizenship activities in the town center, covered, in order to sabe the public acts from the frequent rain. To reinforce this public activity, a multipurpose space to cover the need to hold certain expository and communicative acts indoors. The intervention can be described in three different parts that constitute the whole: the covered square, the multipurpose room located below and the footbridge arising from it, crossing the river, connecting the mineral part of the city with a more landscape orientated part. The square is formed by walls following the particular geometry of the place, hiding and ventilating the yards of the adjacent dwellings, with a roof which, like the walls, is composed by slats to allow the passing of light and allow the growth of vegetation, in order to draw ever changing light beams, as the spotlight of the old theatre that remains in its essence and whose actors are all those enjoying the space. The square follows strictly the alignments of the Street and the river and the height of the surrounding buildings, in a clean layout of a space between dividing walls. The walkway connects the two banks and facilities meeting. Slender, taut, it is also a space in itself, allowing the pedestrians to sit and watch the river flow. This duality is a key element in the project, fluidity and staticity. The multipurpose space begins at the square level, closing a space for the staircase that descends and reserving a place for the facilities of a bar that integrates and colonizes the square space.

The project is linked to the stone jetty spanning longitudinally over the promenade in the north side of the beach. The structure seemingly levitates from the ground, standing gently in the sand, as if it were a catamaran. Due to the limited dimensions of the school and its facilities it is necessary the interposing of a larger element to créate more visibility for the building. The pergola, constructed in front of the school, unifies all the project elements while also creating a shaded threshold, covering the exterior from direct sun exposure, stretching towards the southern end of the building. Facing south, the pergola extends from the building to create an open-air room allowing for views of the landscape underneath the shade. The building, in a dominant position towards the beach while gently elevated from the sand, delineates a marked nautical character with its lightness and appearance. The club member´s classroom consists of a double-sided space that links visually the beach and the marina. The ocean breeze enters into the interior providing for a fresh and shaded space that extends to the outside. The school is accessible from different points. The warehouse, the changing rooms and the offices have independent access from the rear and both flanks of the building, meanwhile the access to the club is located at the front in continuity with the platform and the porch. The school is constructed with galvanized steel and bolted connections as the primary structure. The organization of the structural elements creates a series of rhythms in the façades strengthening its nautical and weightless character. The member´s room opens to the north and south sides by means of operable glass walls, accessible from the beach, allowing spatial continuity and cross ventilation. All the other enclosure elements in the walls, floors and ceiling are made in wood-cement fiber panels that ensure both structural durability and performance against the harsh climates from the sea and inclement weather. In the same way, the pergola in the south is built with a galvanized steel structure and a tensile system that holds up a willow reed cover that echoes its context. Under the pergola or from the inside of the classroom, the sea and the Rock of Gibraltar become, framed by the architecture, main characters of the space.

He holds a degree in Architecture from the Higher Technical School of Architecture in Madrid (ETSAM), a Master’s Diploma in Architecture from the University of Columbia, New York, and a Doctorate in Architecture. Professor Aparicio applies a three-fold approach to architecture through research, teaching and professional practice. As a researcher, he has enjoyed a Scholarship from the Academy of Spain in Rome, a Fulbright/MEC scholarship and a scholarship from Bankia. Full professor of Architectural Projects at the ETSAM and a guest lecturer and speaker at numerous architecture schools and institutions in Europe and America.
He holds a degree in Architecture from the ETSAM, part of the Madrid Polytechnic University, and he won the prize for excellence in projects in the Master’s Degree in Advanced Architectural Design at the GSAPP, University of Columbia in New York. As a researcher, he has earned funding from the Fulbright Foundation, the William Kinne prize or scholarships from the Social Council of the Madrid Polytechnic University. He has lectured as an Assistant Professor at the Barnard-Columbia College of Architecture. He is currently an Associate Professor of Projects at the ETSAM and at the Nebrija University in Madrid. Guest speaker, member of panels of judges for project designs, and director of architecture seminars at various European and American institutions.
The buildings designed by Professor Aparicio have received various nominations such as the ar+d Prize, the Architecture and Town Planning Prize from Madrid City Council, the HYSPALIT Brick Architecture Prize and the Saloni Prize. In 2000, he represented Spain at the Venice Architecture Biennale. In 2005, he was selected to take part in the Spanish Architecture Biennale. In 2008, he was nominated for the Klippan Prize as well as for the Swiss Architectural Award, and finally, in 2012, he won the 39th edition of the IIDA prize. Curator of the exhibitions entitled “Young Architects of Spain” (2006) and “Domusae, Spaces for Culture” (2010) and the editor of the collection on Ceramic Essays. Both his theoretical research and his architecture projects have received international acclaim and publication.

Deputy Curator of the “Young Architects of Spain” exhibition (2006) and Curator of “Domusae, Spaces for Culture”. He has also been shortlisted for the Archia and Enor prizes. His work, research articles and interviews have been published internationally and he edits several architecture catalogues.

Architect and scenographer since 1989 under the name: L’Escaut Architectures (www.escaut.org), a place where artists and architects share and exchange practices in a social and cultural vision, he has worked on several important architecture and landscape realisations. Some of them have received national and international recognitions and prices. From end 2009 he was the “Bouwmeester – Maître architecte / bMa” (Head architects / www.bmabru.be) of Brussels Capital Region, a mission of help to public and private contracting authorities in the processes of organizing good competitions for architecture and landscape projects as a guarantee for better quality in the design and carrying processes of these projects. Acupuncture urbanism was the vision for an action oriented toward the revitalization of the inner city life and its physical context. Teacher on architecture studios since 1994 (University ULB La Cambre Horta) Member and president of international juries for national and European competitions.
Architect, traveller and sea captain. He was born and graduated in Prague. During the 1970s, he worked at SIAL, headed by Karel Hubáček. Together with J. Eisler and M. Masák, he co-authored the Máj department store on Prague’s Národní třída. He is the co-author of the History of Transport Pavilion at Expo 86 in Vancouver. After the revolution, he and S. Fiala, J. Zima and T. Prouza headed the D. A. Studio, whose most extensive project was the construction of the new Smíchov centre. After a series of large scale projects he changed his attitude to architecture completely. A series of experiments with wood earned him regular nominations to the Mies van der Rohe and Piranesy Awards. He was curator of the Czech Pavilion at the 2010 Venice Biennale. Martin Rajnis received the 2014 Global Award for Sustainable Architecture. He lives, works and teaches in Prague.

A Franco-Peruvian architect and teacher. Ciriani was born in Lima, Peru, where he designed the San Felipe housing complex, before moving to Paris in 1964. He continued his modern housing projects in Marne-la-Vallée, Evry, St. Denis, Colombes and Charcot and Bercy in central Paris. He also designed the Museum of the First World War in Peronne, the Archaeological Museum in Arles and the Pontoise Law Courts. Ciriani has taught extensively in Peru and France. UNI, his alma mater, granted him an honoris causa professorship in 2009. He was awarded the Grand Prix d’Architecture Française in 1983.
He holds a degree in architecture from the Venice University Architecture Institute (IUAV 1970) and has been a full professor of the History of Architecture at the IUAV since 1981. He has also lectured on the History of Architecture at Yale University School of Architecture (1982-1991) and at the Accademia de la Università della Svizzera Italiana (19962005). He was born in Lisbon in 1963 and graduated from the “Faculdade de Architectura / U.T.L.” in 1986. He started collaborating with the architect Gonçalo Byrne in 1983 and began developing projects with his brother Francisco in 1988. The Aires Mateus office was then established independently by the two brothers although it was housed in Gonçalo Byrne’s studio in the early years. The increasing scale of work made them establish a larger and autonomous space to meet demand. Since then the scale and number of their projects has been prolific, resulting in several national and international awards. The visibility of their work has led to them being invited to lecture and teach at several institutions, including the Graduate School of Design in Harvard, the Accademia di Architettura in Mendrisio, as well as several others in Portugal. Their structure right now spans two studios, both based in Lisbon, and several partnerships with local studios for international works.
His degree in architecture was earned at the School of Architecture in Madrid in 1971. He has been a visiting professor at the Lausanne and Zurich polytechnics, Harvard, Cornell and Columbia universities in USA and at the School of Architecture in Pamplona, Spain. He has held the Kenzo Tange Professorship at Harvard’s G.S.D. and since 2004 has been an honorary professor at the University of Seville where he holds the Blanca Chair at the School of Architecture. This year he is visiting professor at Technische Universiteit in Delft, The Netherlands, and at Hepia (Haute École du paysage, d’ingénierie et d’architecture) in Geneva. Together with Antonio Cruz, he started his professional activity in 1971. Some of his better-known projects and works are the New Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, the Spanish Pavilion at the Hannover 2000 Expo, the Cartuja Stadium in Seville, the addition to the SBB Railway Station in Basel, Seville’s Public Library, the Stadium of the Community of Madrid, the Huelva Bus Station, Santa Justa Railway Station in Seville and, also in Seville, a housing building in Doña María Coronel Street.

URA YVES MALYSSE / KIKI VERBEECK NATIONAL FIRST PRIZE BELGIUM URA was founded in spring 2002 by Yves Malysse, Kiki Verbeeck and Joost Verstraete. In 2010 Joost and his family moved abroad. URA is located in Brussels and characterized by a broad spectrum of projects, varied both in scale and function. URA projects have been widely published and awarded with prestigious international prizes such as the Mies Van der Rohe Award 2015 and the Architizer A+ Award. Among them: KAU gymnasium, KOP storage and offices, JGK youth hostel, RLN revalidation centre and WAL stacked houses. Yves Malysse studied architecture at St-Lucas Ghent. Worked at Robert Winkel (Rotterdam/NL), MVRDV (Rotterdam/NL), stage designer Bart Clement (Staden/B) and Jo Crepain (Antwerp/B) untill 2004. Has been teaching assistant at TU Delft (2007-2008) and Studio tutor at the Academy of Rotterdam (2008- 2011). Kiki Verbeeck studied architecture at St-Lucas Ghent and Architectural Sciences at KU Leuven. Worked at uapS (Paris/FR), OMA (Rotterdam/NL), LABFAC (Paris/FR), Baines (AntwerpBrussels/B) and Advisers (Brussels/B) untill 2005.

V+ FINALIST BELGIUM Since its creation in 1998, the V+ Brussels office has worked on more than 190 scenography projects, private and public housing, urban studies, public infrastructures and amenities, museums, cinemas. The firm earned its reputation through the creation of the Pavilion of Temporary Happiness (2008), the Sauvenière Cinéma in Liège (2008), the Town Hall of Montigny-le Tilleul (2013) and the recent Water Tower in Ghlin (2015). Several far-reaching public projects – such as the Mode and Design Center (MAD) in Brussels, the cinema and image centre Phénix 5 and the new RTBF studios in Charleroi, the amenities project and the Divercity Park in Forest, the Folklore Museum in Mouscron, the Museum of Fine Arts in Verviers and the Cultural Centre in Deinze – are currently in the implementation or pre-project phase. V+ has received numerous awards including the Belgian Prize for Architecture, the Urban Planning Award of the City of Liège, the Belgian Building Award, the Brussels Horta Award and was twice nominated for the Mies van der Rohe Award. Each project is the opportunity for a unique narrative which is built up by playing close attention to the context of the commission and often goes beyond the initial challenges. Each project also represents the opportunity to question the power and limits of the architectural discipline and of the architect as an individual.

PIERRE HEBBELINCK – ATELIER D’ARCHITECTURE FINALIST BELGIUM Founded in 1994, Pierre hebbelinck’s architecture office considers all aspects of architectural research. Creation is developped there alongside reflection on community facilities, family homes and furniture. In 2004, the office launched the publishing house « Fourre-Tout », whose ambition is to promote the poetic approach of architecture. Pierre Hebbelinck (1956) obtained his diploma in architecture in 1981 from the Institut Lambert Lombard in Liège. The following year, he opened a professional office. In 1996, he represented Belgium at the 6th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice. In 2002, he was awarded the Baron Horta prize for the creation of the Mac’s at Grand-Hornu. This year, he was awarded the insignia of “Chevalier” of the “Ordre des arts et des lettres” by French Minister of Culture. Pierre de Wit (1969) obtained his diploma in architecture in 1993 from the Institut Saint-Luc in Liège. He joined Pierre Hebbelinck in 1997 and became associate partner, then director of the architecture office in 2005. He also teaches at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Liège.

ARCHTEAM was founded in 1992 by architect Milan Rak. Since 2004, the office is composed by him and Alena Rezna. The building design has continuously 18 years. It is focused on complex design activities in capital construction, including engineering activities related to project preparation and implementation structures.
Projektil creates economical, helpful and inventive architecture with regards to tradition, innovative typology and sustainable development. We integrate contemporary art, design, architecture and the local context and invite young and prospective designers to collaborate on our projects.
MARTIN PROKŠ, architect Graduated in the year 2010 at Czech Technical University in Prague (CTU), in the studio of Jan Šépka and Mirka Tůmová. He passed the school of Alena Šrámková, Petr Hájek and Jan Šépka, a three-year study of Civil engineering at the Faculty of civil engineering at CTU, and worked at the office of Petr Hájek and Tomáš Hradečný. MAREK PŘIKRYL, architect Graduated in the year 2010 at Czech Technical University in Prague, in the studio of Jan Šépka and Mirka Tůmová. In 2013 graduated at the School of Architecture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. Experience abroad: office Productora in the Mexico City and the Renzo Piano Building Workshop in Genoa. In Prague he worked with the atelier of Aulík-Fišer and Šépka Architects. Beside his architectural practice, he participated on site-specific projects with Jan Trejbal.
It currently has offices in Prague, Brno and Nachod. The office designs and constructs family houses, public buildings and urban plans. A lot of Czech and International Awards he has won, such as the Architecture Grand Prix in 1999, 2001, 2006, 2007, 2013 and 2015, the International Architecture Awards by The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design in 2007, the Detail Preis, from Germany in 2005, and the Bauwelt Preis, from Germany, in 2008.
Our company focuses on designing layout plans, development maps, residential and office blocks, hotels, theatres, libraries, schools, industrial buildings and family houses. These projects comprise all project stages including interior studies, author supervision, technical support and consultancy. We believe that architecture can be both good and sustainable. We are interested in creating friendly and inspirational public spaces because public buildings are very important in the city scope. This approach, where every project starts with a context analysis, is also reflected in our projects for revitalisation of traditional urban spaces, such as squares and riverbanks. Additionally, the emphasis on team work leads to cooperation with different artist and creates complex, communicative and multilayered atmosphere in our projects.

AGENCE D’ARCHITECTURE PHILIPPE PROST NATIONAL FIRST PRIZE FRANCE Born in 1959, is an architect and urban planne, and a professor and president at ENSA Paris-Belleville. In 1991, after ten years dedicated to academic research, Philippe Prost was asked to take charge of the fortress of Belle-Ile-en-Mer, an adventure that ended up lasting fifteen years. In 2004 he obtained a special mention in the Prix de l’Equerre d’argent for his work on a residential complex in the 20th arrondissement of Paris. At the end of 2014 he complete the first stage of MetaLmorphoses, a project to restructure the site of the Paris Mint. With the Ring of Remembrance, Philippe Prost leaves the rehabilitations and reconversions to deliver a contemporary work. In all of his projects, whatever the scale, the creative process is founded on memory and context. He is the autor of numerous books and articles, and in 2008 was awarded the Prix du livre by the Academie d’Architecture for his work, Vauban, le style de l’intelligence. LAN ARCHITECTURE FINALIST FRANCE LAN (Local Architecture Network) was created by Benoît Jallon and Umberto Napolitano in 2002, with the idea of exploring architecture as an area of activity at the intersection of several disciplines. This attitude has developed into a methodology enabling LAN to explore new territories and forge a vision encompassing social, urban, functional and formal questions. LAN’s projects seek to find elegant, contemporary answers to creative and pragmatic concerns. LAN has received several awards: the Nouveaux Albums de la Jeune Architecture (NAJA) prize awarded by the French Ministry of Culture and Communication (2004); the International Architecture Award from the Chicago Athenaeum and the European Urban Centre for Architecture, Art, Design and Urban Studies, the Archi-Bau Award, the Special Prize at the 12th World Triennale of Architecture, Sofia (2009); the AR Mipim Future Projects Award and the Europe 40 Under 40 Award (2010). In 2011 the office was awarded Best Sustainable Development in Keeping with its Environment prize at the LEAF Awards with the Best Sustainable Development in Keeping with its Environment prize, the SAIE Selection Awards 2011 and the Special Prize AMO Fondation d’Entreprise Excellence SMA. LAN has been nominated at the Prix de l’Equerre d’Argent 2011 and recently won the Silver Medal at the International Prize for Sustainable Architecture Fassa Bortolo. In 2013, a Commendation for the Civic Trust Awards and the WAN Residential Award were conferred on LAN.

A + SAMUELDELMAS ARCHITECTURAL AND LANDSCAPING STUDIO SPECIAL MENTION FOR YOUNG ARCHITECTS a+ samueldelmas studio, created in Paris, France, is an architectural firm specializing, in urban planning and landscaping. Since its creation, a+ samueldelmas has designed and executed public works, hospitals, apartments, homes and urban planning projects. The studio’s concept to the creation of architectural spaces, is to provide optimal materials based on providing a sense of pleasure, comfort and a surprising sensation of intimacy. Architect, Samuel Delmas, won the nomination for the “40 Under 40” in “Europe’s Emerging Young Architects” 2012 Competition.

PEDEVILLA ARCHITECTS NATIONAL FIRST PRIZE ITALY Armin Pedevilla was born 1973 in South Tyrol/Italy. He studied architecture at the technical University in Graz/Austria. His first office was founded with two high school friends straight after university. After two successful years Armin left the workgroup to collect some urban architecture experience in the city of Vienna. Regarding his admiration for alpine architecture he then headed home to found Pedevilla architects in 2005, together with his brother Alexander. Since then the headquarters of the two young designers is based in Bruneck/Italy. The office has made its reputation with modern alpine architecture on national and international level. Meanwhile they belong to the few prestigious architecture offices in South Tyrol. Their works were many times awarded and shown in various travelling exhibitions throughout the globe. The architectural language and repertoire is shaped and influenced by the overwhelming mountain scenery and the harsh climate conditions in the alpine region of Italy. Pedevilla Architects demonstrate repeatedly that contemporary architecture in these remote mountain regions is not only possible, but can also provide new perspectives. Best shown by the example of the mountain domicile and chalet La Pedevilla, which is situated in between farming houses, that date back over hundreds of years.

Stefano Gri and Piero Zucchi founded the practice Geza – Gri e Zucchi Architetti Associati in Udine in 1999. Geza is based in Udine (Italy) and it works in partnership with MTD Marc Thorpe Design in New York and CFK Architetti in Venice.
Andrea Oliva was born in Novellara (Reggio Emilia, Italy) in 1972. In 1998, he graduated from the School of Architecture at the Polytechnic Institute in Milan. Since 2001, he is Associate Professor at the Departments of Engeneering and Architecture of the University of Parma. Since 2013, he teaches also at the Faculty of Architecture of Ferrara.
Stefano Gri (Udine, 1963) graduated as an Architect at IUAV, Venice, in 1988 and has been registered in the Roll of Architects of Udine (Italy) since 1990. After several vocational experiences in Italy, he moved to Barcelona, Spain to work with the practice of architects Sunyer + Badia in 1992. Piero Zucchi (Udine, 1965) graduated as an Architect at IUAV, Venice, in 1992. He then studied at ETSA in Seville, Spain and attended a Masterclass with Rem Koolhaas at BIA in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, in 1994. He has been registered in the Roll of Architects of Udine (Italy) since 1993. He worked with Studio Valle Architetti Associati in Udine from 1993 to 1998.
In 2000, he opened his own firm “Andrea Oliva Architetto”, focusing on architectural issues such as urban planning and landscape design. He is currently in charge of urban projects, dealing with bioclimatic architecture, redevelopment of historic areas, school buildings, urban design and landscaping. His projects won many architectural competitions; in particular, the project of Technopole has received the following awards: 1st place at “IQU Award - Innovation and Urban Quality 2014 - Regeneration and urban renewal”; 2nd place at “RIUSO 03 Award 2014 – SUSTAINABLE URBAN REGENERATION”; shortlisted of 40 at “European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award 2015”.

JOSÉ ADRIÃO NATIONAL FIRST PRIZE PORTUGAL Degree in Architecture from the School of Architecture, University of Porto in 1991, after working as a trainee with Josep Llinàs in Barcelona under the guidance of Eduardo Souto de Moura. In 2002 he concludes his Master in the U.P.C. / CCCB in Barcelona, as part of the Metropolis program, coordinated by Ignasi Solla-Moralles. He is assistant-teacher at the Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa. Between 2005-2009 he was co-director of JA - the Journal of the Portuguese Order of Architects. In 1996, establishes with Pedro Pacheco, JAPP Arquitectos. He starts José Adrião Arquitectos in 2002.

Throughout their career they have received several international awards. In 2001, they were awarded the PeterJoseph-Lenné Preis in Berlin. In 2006, shortlisted for the Jeongok Prehistory Museum project in Korea. In 2010 they received the Europan Prize – runner up and selected for the Piranesi Award 2010 Piran (Slovenia) with the Multipurpose building in Dueville. In 2014 they were selected to represent Italy at the Architecture Biennale of Venice.

ALBERTO CAMPO BAEZA BIGMAT INTERNATIONAL ARCHITECTURE AWARD GRAND PRIZE He is a Professor in the Madrid School of Architecture, ETSAM, where he has been a tenured Professor for more than 25 years. He has taught at the ETH in Zurich and the EPFL in Lausanne as well as the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, the Kansas State University, and at the CUA University in Washington. He has given many lectures all over the world, and has received many awards like the Torroja for his Caja Granada or the Award of the UPM University for his Excellence in Teaching. In 2013 he has been awarded the Heinrich Tessenow Gold Medal, the Arnold W. Brunner Memorial Prize of the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the International Award Architecture in Stone in Verona, and the RIBA International Fellowship 2014 of the Royal Institute of British Architects. Also in 2014 he has been elected Full Member to the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando of Spain. He has exhibited his work in the Crown Hall by Mies at Chicago’s IIT and at the Palladio Basilica in Vicenza. And in the Urban Center In New York. And at the Saint Irene Church in Istanbul, and the Tempietto of San Pietro in Montorio, Rome. In 2009 the prestigious MA Gallery of Toto in Tokyo made an anthological exhibition of his work that, in 2011 was in the MAXXI in Rome. In 2013 his work has been exhibited in the American Academy of Arts and Letters, New York, and in the Pibamarmi Foundation in Vicenza. In 2014 at the School of Architecture of Valencia. And in 2015, at the Oris House of Architecture, in Zagreb.

Architects Rafael Aranda, Carme Pigem and Ramon Vilalta began their own studio RCR ARQUITECTES in 1987 in Olot. They achieved the National Award in Architecture in Catalonia in 2005 and are Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres of the République Française since 2008, Honorary Fellows of the American Institute of Architecture (AIA) since 2010, International Award 2011 “Belgian Building Awards”, Honorary Fellows by the RIBA Royal Institute of British Architects 2012 and most recently achieved the Gold Medal by Académie d’Architecture Française 2015.
Héctor Fernández Elorza graduated from the Madrid School of Architecture (ETSAM) and he continued his postgraduate training in Scandinavia in 1999 and 2000. Since 2001, he has been lecturing in the ETSAM Department of Architectural Design. In 2008, he received a scholarship from the Spanish Royal Academy in Rome. He has taught as Visiting Lecturer in Rome, Hamburg, Trondheim, Copenhagen, Innsbruck, Cologne, Rio de Janeio, Stockholm and Dallas. He has received several awards such as the International AR+D Award from the Royal Institute of British Architects in London, the 2005 Saloni Prize, the ATEG 2010 Prize, the second prize in the BigMat 2011 Award and, finally, in the first edition of the BigMat’13 International Architecture Award, he won the Special Mention for Young Architects.
Since 1989 they have been architectural consultants to the Natural Park of National Interest, in the Volcanic Zone of La Garrotxa. During their careers they have tutored in Urbanism (1989-2001, Vilalta) and Studio Projects (1992-2004, Pigem). They have received various distinctions for their work, nine FAD awards (Foment de les Arts Decoratives) and three times finalists in the European Union Mies van der Rohe awards. Several of their works have been exhibited at galleries such as Palau Robert in Barcelona (RCR Arquitectes Creativitat Compartida), the House of Art in Ceske Budejovice (The Intangible Tangible), Toto Gallery.Ma in Tokyo (Global Ends). Furthermore their works have been published in noteworthy architectural journals such as “AV” RCR Arquitectes International Portfolio nº175, “El Croquis”, nº. 162 (IV), RCR Arquitectes 2003-2012. Abstracción Poética, “AV” nº 137, “El Croquis” nº 138 (V), RCR Arquitectes 2003-2007 Los atributos de la naturaleza, “RCR” by 3C Design, Korea.
Carlos García Fernández holds a Master from Columbia University in New York where he studied as a Fulbright Fellow and he is Architect from the Madrid School of Architecture (ETSAM). He also studied in TU Delf in Holland as an international student. He is co-founder and principal at the Architecture Office RAW/deAbajoGarcia/ and as an independent architect he has won several prizes in architectural ideas competitions by himself and working with other colleagues. He has been scholar at the Spanish Academy in Rome and researcher at Keio University in Tokyo under the supervision of Kazuyo Sejima. He is currently a faculty member at ETSAM where he works as an associate professor at the Architectural Projects Department.
