For years, the concept of a Nosler rifle had been discussed with the goal of bringing something very special to the world of custom firearms. In 2005, this vision was realized with the first production of NoslerCustom limited edition rifles. Nine years later, we are proud to have had our rifles receive some of the most prestigious awards for excellence in the shooting sports industry. From the inception of the program we have held that the epitome of a modern hunting rifle must possess all of the finest features of several proven firearm designs. The rifle must be simple, rugged, fully weather resistant, and provide minute-of-angle accuracy with readily available factory ammunition. Nosler® rifles are designed to exceed this goal. Now available in a variety of configurations, our rifles are hand-crafted at the Nosler plant in Oregon using premium components assembled with great care to ensure function and performance in any field condition. Every rifle we build comes standard with an all-weather Cerakote™ finish, a finely tuned custom trigger, a hand-lapped match grade barrel, and an unrivalled out-of-the-box accuracy guarantee with our factory ammunition. Nosler Rifle History

Message from the President: All of us at Nosler® are driven by value, especially when it comes to one of our Nosler rifles. Because we are avid hunters and shooters, we loaded our rifles with some very special, no-nonsense features. Here are just a few examples: Rust is the enemy of every hunting rifle, and two of our most practical features are our Cerakote™ and Microslick™ coatings. These special coatings prevent rust in the most hostile environments. In fact, we have personally tested these coatings from the heat and wind of Africa’s Kalahari to the nasty, wet cold of the Arctic—and they work! Whenever a gunsmith talks about a fine rifle, the quality of the barrel will always be a part of the discussion. The barrel is the heart and soul of a fine rifle, and our actions are fitted with some of the best barrels that our industry has to offer. Our one-piece bolt is another no-nonsense feature. Most bolt action rifles have a bolt handle that is silver-soldered to the bolt body. The reason is economics—it’s cheaper to produce two pieces then solder them together. Our special, one-piece bolt is more expensive to produce, but it assures the hunter that the handle will never separate from the bolt body, even under the most difficult circumstances.

While coatings, bolt handles, barrels, triggers and stocks are great features to brag about, there are two “unseen” features that make a Nosler rifle an exceptional value. First, we use Nosler actions as the test platform for the tens of thousands of Nosler bullets that are accuracy tested each year. This is an important part of our quality assurance program, and each test action will fire more rounds in a typical year than most rifles will see in a lifetime!

Another essential feature is a clean, crisp trigger pull. We set our triggers at 3 pounds, and then we “slam-fire” test them to ensure that the sear will hold. Our triggers are supplied by the most reliable names in the business, and a crisp, clean pull is always part of the deal.

It is attention to detail that makes a great rifle, especially when we consider the stock. The key features of a Nosler stock are much more than a pretty piece of wood or a light-weight chunk of composite. The foundation of our rifles is the Nosler® action, a tremendously strong and mechanically precise platform designed for rugged reliability in the field while providing bench-rest accuracy. When designing the action, our engineers and ballistics team incorporated features from some the most reliable and accurate rifles used by militaries and sportsmen worldwide. The Nosler® action is not necessarily a revolutionary design concept, but rather a conglomeration of the best features of several bolt-action designs. All design tolerances are held to very exacting and precise standards to ensure optimal accuracy through perfect dimensions and alignment to the bore, while still maintaining functionality in field conditions. All Nosler® actions are proudly manufactured in the United States of America.

An integrated, spring-loaded AR15 style extractor provides reliable feeding and extraction on even the most stubborn cases.

Bolt bodies are fluted to resist binding in harsh field conditions.

Large pressure vents in the bolt are designed to help dissipate gases away from the shooter’s face in the unlikely event of a case rupture. These vents also allow for quick and easy field cleaning with minimal equipment.

Components

Nosler Barrels Nosler rifles are fitted with premium, hand-lapped, match grade barrels. These barrels are button rifled and held to extremely tight tolerances for unrivaled accuracy. Each barrel features a radiused target crown to protect the rifling from damage and is proudly made in the United States of America.

The stocks chosen for our rifles are designed for natural shouldering and point of aim while maintaining classic lines and comfortable recoil dispersion. Synthetic stocks are lightweight and provide consistent performance under harsh conditions, while the wood stocks feature a hand-rubbed oil finish for durability, easy maintenance and a warm, traditional feel. Nosler actions are glass and pillar bedded by hand to their stock to ensure there is a perfect match between components for the utmost accuracy and support. Each stock is fitted with a Pachmayr® Decelerator® recoil pad and standard quick-detach sling swivel studs.

How We Build Our Rifles We receive our components from a select group of manufacturers who, like us, take great pride in the parts they build. While a high degree of rifle accuracy comes from the way the parts are assembled, equally important is the quality of the parts used. Match-grade barrels, custom triggers, premium wood and synthetic stocks, CNC machined actions and internal components—everything we use is of the highest quality, and it is all made in the USA.

Top quality rifles are nothing new to the staff at Nosler. We have been chambering barrels and assembling barreled actions to test the accuracy of our bullets for over 60 years. Along the way, we have built some outstanding hunting rifles, and gained a significant amount of know-how. This experience has allowed us to create what we believe is the premier, all-weather hunting rifle. We build rifles out of a passion for shooting and hunting—and just like our bullets, we build them right.

Nosler rifles are built by hand by our skilled team of experienced gunsmiths. Every detail is worked and adjusted for perfect function and fit prior to installation. Each action is pressure proofed prior to assembly to ensure it meets industry standards. After bedding, every Nosler rifle is fired for accuracy to ensure it performs within our guarantee. Finally, a stringent fit and function inspection is completed prior to shipment.

As a Nosler employee, it’s a great honor to be asked to go to lunch with John A. Nosler and listen to some of the amazing stories that have shaped our industry and discuss what the future may hold. It was on one such company outing that the idea for the Model 48 Legacy was born. John was accompanied by his grandson, John R. Nosler, and one other employee, when he began describing what he would expect in the perfect production rifle. Before he finished his thoughts, he had pen in hand and was sketching the specifics on his napkin. With great detail, he would mimic holding the rifle to his shoulder and explain exactly how it should feel, and where every piece would interact with the shooter’s body. Even at 95 years of age, John’s actions and descriptions more closely resembled an engineer fresh out of college than someone approaching triple digits. He would imagine firing the rifle, working the action, chambering a round… then sketch what he saw and how he imagined the rifle would perform. When he was finished, he had sketched the design of a true hunter’s rifle, one that was light enough to carry on long days and still shoot match-quality groups at the range, and it had a wood stock. That lunch meeting was not forgotten and the rifle that John described was relayed to the NoslerCustom division of Nosler. We are proud to unveil the rifle that was first imagined, then conceived, and now realized by John A. Nosler himself with the same drive and passion that he originally started the Nosler Partition Bullet Company with: The Model 48 John A. Nosler Legacy Rifle.

In 2005 this vision was realized with the first production of NoslerCustom limited edition rifles. Chambered in the powerhouse 300 Winchester Short Magnum cartridge, the Series One Nosler Custom Rifle (NCR) combined beauty and function in a limited production rifle set. When the Model 48 Custom Sporter was introduced in 2006, it was only available in one cartridge chambering, the 270 WSM. The hand-laid Kevlar® and carbon fiber stock was finished in a speckled "Onyx Gray" color, while the metal work was finished in a non-reflective Slate Gray Cerakote®. Over the years that followed, the cartridge offerings were expanded to include a great number of cartridges ranging from the 22-250 Rem to the 35 Whelen. In 2012 the rifle shed it's "Sporter" designation, and was expanded to include a number of custom options and new cartridges, for the opportunity to create your own specially built Nosler rifle. The rifle is now available with more options than ever, as well as the ability to have the rifle assembled in a package complete with top-of-the-line optics and shooting accessories. Through years of hunting and the sometimes monumental task of cleaning rifles, we have found that stock finishes are very susceptible to a number of cleaning chemicals. Many products are available to help reduce spilling of chemicals, but it seems unavoidable that to some degree—you cannot contain all of the mess. With this in mind, we set out to find a stock coating that would resist chemicals, and help protect the rifle from field-wear. We finally found a compound that can be added to the Model 48 Custom stock that suited our needs. It can resist a number of standard cleaning chemicals and serves as an invisible barrier against many superficial stock scratches that can make a rifle appear worn. In addition to providing superior protection, this Teflon® based coating provides additional texture for a better grip in cold or wet conditions.

Model 48 High country

Many options are available in the Model 48 Custom lineup, so we have helped simplify the decisions by pre-packaging four rifles to suit varying hunting environments and styles. These rifles have been chambered in cartridges best-suited for the rifle's application, and come complete with optics and mounts, ammunition, hardcase, and sling.

Model 48 Long Range unnecessary length, and the lightweight Kevlar® and carbon fiber stock keep the overall weight down. A removeable muzzle brake is added, as well as a detachable magazine for easy reloading. The package is topped with a Nightforce® NXS 3.5-15x50mm with the NP-R2 reticle, mounted in Nightforce® Lightweight aluminum rings with a Nosler Picatinny rail. The Model 48 Long Range package is designed for the hunter or shooter who will be taking aim on targets over extended distances, but still plans on packing the rifle for the day and doesn't want the weight of traditional long-range rifles more suited for the bench than the hillside. High country hunts call for lots of hiking, which necessitates lightweight equipment. The Model 48 High Country package is assembled with a delicate balance of reduced weight, and overall shootability of the rifle, to accomodate shots over long distances common to mountain hunting. When discussing a rifle to go with our new Varmageddon™ line of ammunition and bullets, the question was posed, "What kind of rifle should it be?" After a half-minute pause, it was unanimously decided that only an AR type rifle would be fitting for the line, and who better to build the rifle than the master AR builders at Noveske® Rifle Works in Grants Pass, Oregon. The team at Noveske was quick to help, and within a couple months, the first prototype rifle was completed. Fitted with top-of-line components and features like the new NSR™ handguard, and Magpul® furniture, as well as a match-grade Noveske barrel, the newly named Varmageddon Rifle cut clover-leaf groups at the range with Nosler Varmageddon Ammunition. Both Nosler and Noveske being Oregon based companies, Leupold® optics out of Portland, Oregon were an easy choice to mount atop this tack-driving rifle. A special VX3® 4.5-14x50mm Long Range Varmageddon edition scope that featured Leupold's recently developed CDS turret system was created to match the trajectory of the 55gr. Varmageddon bullet, providing shooters with dead-on holds to 550 yards.
