TASK: To design an auto-expo of an international automobile manufacturer using long-span structure. Year: Fifth semester, July 2019 Team: Individual Organiser: SPA Bhopal | Academic Keywords: Long-span, Auto-expo, Commercial, Kinetic architecture Messe Mercedes Benz is the first-ever Mercedes Benz expo in India. Following the lines of the other Mercedes expo, Messe Mercedes is also designed to show off the glitz glamour and legacy of the brand. The Plan has been inspired by the iconic double headlamps of Mercedes Benz and the building form is inspired by velocity. The location of the site has been taken into account and is utilised to the fullest. Building Form
The building has been visualized to be an iconic landmark structure. The grandeur and the scale of the building is a symbolic representation of the brand value of Mercedes Benz. The dynamic interior coupled up with the multiple levels and curves translates to the fluidity of the Mercedes Benz automobile design.
The roof has been designed to stop the glare from the south and provide a splendid view of the lake from the restaurants and car displays.
The roof structure is supported in the west and south by the ground. A V-column balances the roof on the north. The entire roof is supported by a space frame which is enclosed by GFRP cladding.
The entire building is divided into three structures. 1- The long span roof supported by a V-column and space frame. 2- Kinetic facades supported by steel frames. 3- Regular column beam framed structure with composite slabs.
Vertical circulation is combined along with horizontal circulation by providing ramps leading to the top.

Interior views
The automobiles are displayed on the backdrop of the lake. There are two ramps: the pedestrian ramp, the vehicular ramp.
Selected visitors get a chance to visit ‘The Vault’. The Vault is an underground structure with an aquarium surrounding it. The Vault houses the worlds rarest and finest Mercedes ever produced ranging from Maybachs to Formula-1 cars.

TASK: To design a long-span swimming pool stadium in 5 days ( Time-bound studio). Year: Fourth semester, January 2019 Team: Individual Organiser: SPA Bhopal | Academic | Time-Bound Studio ( 5 Days) Keywords: Long-span, Parametric, Stadium, Voronoi patterns Ocahne aquatic centre is a swimming pool stadium with a seating capacity of 400. It has an Olympic size pool and a viewing gallery on the side. The structure, mainly the roof symbolizes the wave as the building is located near Aleppey beach. The facades of the building have been decided for the sun and wind factor. The humidity control was the biggest challenge during the design process as the water constantly evaporate and increases the humidity of the microclimate. Facades with the opening will take out the humidity and facilitate cross ventilation. The northern facade was provided with curtain walls to use glare-free daylight. The visitor entrance was raised to control the crowd and separate it from the athlete entrance. The aquatic centre has been provided with a guest entry as well as a service entry.

TASK: To design a sustainable multi-use cityscraper. Year: Seventh Semester, August 2020 Team: Individual Organiser: UNI | International Competition Keywords: Skyscraper, Sustainble building, Timber construction. By 2050 the world’s population is expected to be almost 10 billion people out of which 2/3 will live in the cities. No doubt, the high rise will offer a solution but concrete and steel the material we currently use to build high rise structures has a large carbon footprint. The design proposes a tower made out of cross-laminated timber and a central concrete core as the structural and service spine. Facades inspired by honeycomb wraps the floor plate. Transparent solar cells used in facade generates the whole power requirement of the building. In the case of countries like the USA and Canada where timber is surplus already started exploring possibilities of timber as a material in high rise construction. Combining energy-efficient technologies and techniques with vernacular or traditional material like wood makes building efficient and sustainable for the long run. Yes, we are going to witness a lot of timberscrapper soon and this project is a kick-off.

TASK: To design a 100 key hotel for the tourism department. Year: Seventh Semester, December 2020 Team: Individual Organiser: SPA Bhopal | Academic | Design studio. Keywords: Hospitality Design, Transient Hotel, Landmark building, Energy-efficient building. Hotel Atlanta is a 5-star luxury Transient hotel. Atlanta has 108 keys and features a banquet hall, event garden, board room, audiovisual room, multicuisine restaurant, all day meal restaurant, coffee shop, spa, sauna, salon, infinite pool, gym and several branded retail outlets. The hotel was conceptualized to be a landmark hotel which stands in contrast to the context Climatic datas and topography analysis shaped the form evolution. Since Bhopal is in the centroid and lots of tourist sites are located nearby, makes it an ideal location for a Luxury transient hotel. Atlanta focuses on providing the best in class luxury to its guests. A wide range of open and semi-open spaces with good views pushes the guest to come out of their rooms and utilize them. Many elements in The Atlanta notably, the lift and staircases are strategically located to create an amazing user experience throughout the course of their stay. Concept Sketch

3. U-Shaped tower
4. Stepped terraces
U- Shaped tower helps in Building energy performance and efficient daylighting.
Adding shading devices in the form of stepped terraces which also act as public spaces.
Capsule Lift
Service Core
Capsule lift helps provide different transition of views to the passenger throughout the journey.
The service core is located in such a way that it requires minimum duct to the rooms and other spaces.
Green Terraces
Room location
Intermediate green terrace shades the other spaces and also makes up green outdoor space.
All the rooms have been designed to utilise the views available.

The design and form were majorly guided by the sun angles and other climatic datas. Energy performance of the building was closely observed during the initial design development stages. Being a Luxury Hotel the energy usage is typically on the higher side. One of the major challenge was to find the right balance between energy reduction without compromising luxury. The U shaped guest floors addressed the mutual shading and daylighting in the corridor. The corridors acts as a buffer space against the heat gain in the building. The buffer space slows down the heat transfer from the external surfaces to the interior of the rooms.Mixed mode VEntilation has been used to address the composite climate of Bhopal. Automated louvres are bein provided near the infinity pool to enable mixed mode ventilation.

TASK: To design a flood resillient neighbour hood. Year: Fourth Semester, February 2019 Team: Team of three Organiser: UNI | International Competition Keywords: Flood resillient, Amphibious housing, Neighbourhood design. It’s the first time in history after 1924, the flood has impacted the life of Kerala. In this flood, about 400 people died and thousands of people were affected. while. The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority has placed the state on a red alert as a result of the intense flooding. Several water treatment plants were forced to cease pumping water, resulting in poor access to clean water, especially in northern districts of the state. Over 3,274 relief camps have been opened at various locations to accommodate the flood victims. It is estimated that 1,247,496 people have found shelter in such camps. The flooding has affected hundreds of villages, destroyed an estimated 10,000 km of roads and thousands of homes have been damaged or destroyed.
