I have lived in Izmir, Istanbul, Atlanta, Denizli, and Prague. I studied architecture in Izmir and Istanbul between the years 2012 and 2017. During this period, I took an English course in the Language Institute, Atlanta. I experienced the architectural work environment in the city of Prague. I have been living in Istanbul since February 2018. Thenceforward I have worked in several architectural, urban design, and landscape studios. My contribution to my teams has been mostly in architectural design, project case studies, user scenario creations, graphic productions, drawings, and modeling. This portfolio is a work collection of mine. Works here, have been completed in the last two years, and these works are a selection from a different time and space of my early after-graduation years. Content is mostly architectural design, urban and public space studies, but also my visions of urban representation by photography are there to come across during the reading. The name of the book is Wรถrks (selected works). The edition date is July 2019.

Beykoz forest houses, housing project and masterplan. Istanbul, Turkey. The project aims to design a quality dwelling in a hard conditioned topography and create a masterplan for 405 houses. A multi-discipliner team submitted the project -a team of architects, landscape architects, data researchers, and visualizer architects. Design team credits of given images in the portfolio: Masterplan and landscape by Mehmet Cemil Aktas, Material Study and Typology Development of Houses by PĹnar Kesim Aktas, Site data visualize by Super-eight studio, and Render by Seyma Kahraman Concept, Architectural design, Illustrations, Plan, and section drawings by Bilgehan Kayaalp The project area has three main hard conditions to consider during the production of mass model prototype. These three navigates the starting point of conceptual design for a dwelling. After receiving the analysis from the architectural research data studio, the design process continued. The conceptual design is a simple and yet effective solution. The required volume divides living spaces into two, for a better fit in topography. A concern of creating comfortable open spaces leads the design to have an angular mass, which was a critical step regarding the issue of preventing the northern wind flow. While designing the masterplan, building design settlement standardization is solved within the typology evaluation. Foundation’s slope ratio designates the type, form and area size of buildings. Type X (189), Type Y/ prototype ( 116), and Type Z (100); in total 405 houses are planned. Masterplan access decisions focused on using existing main roads to reduce harming forests and having optimum distance between houses. Side roads are oriented by the topography. Typology classification is as following; type X is lower than %35, type Y is between %35 and %45, type Z is higher than %45

The architectural program creates a life around the courtyard. Living spaces are enclosing the courtyard and pool deck. These living space scenarios are sitting, dining, reading n resting areas, and a multi-purpose antre. The entrance to the house is from the upper story. It is linked to the courtyard by the antre with a steel staircase. Additionally, bedrooms are located along the upper story corridor to get a vista of the forest for each. Another advantage of this decision is creating privacy from the rest of the house. There is a second entrance to the house from the basement -1 floor. This secondary entrance is for service access that is linked directly to areas like kitchen, storage, and helper’s room. Thus, the back door provides easier access to get supplies for the household. On the basement -2 floor, the steel mountable living unit is attached to the concrete structural system of the building. This unit is designed as a guest house which has a separate entrance from outside. However, a user can define another purpose of using space. In this case, the unit is constructed with a staircase directly reachable from the living space.

Modern arts center, urban design and conceptual building project. Bartın, Turkey. The conceptual building design undertakes the function of gathering space in an urban design project. It requires a close exhibition place in the square, and well-functioned program; concert saloon, movie theater, conference room, and exhibition spaces for the people of Bartın. Design team credits of given images in the portfolio: Landscape by Mehmet Cemil Aktas, Landscape modeling, and Exterior render by Seyma Kahraman Concept, and design of the building, Modeling, Drawings, and Interior render by Bilgehan Kayaalp

The core of the main cube is functioning as a conference room that is reachable with a black emphasized staircase from the exhibition hall. The exhibition hall is a circulation space between a wooden cube and a facade of the building. Concert saloon is located on the underground part of the building due to the need for isolation of possible high sounds for locals roaming around the square. The center welcomes locals from the -1 floor level. Having these step sitting areas towards the entrance is one of the trademarks of the building design. This design decision allows using the facade of the building as a screen. The skin of the mass is a wired mesh bearing locally produced bricks that work as sun protection for transparent volume. The design uses traditional local material (ısıklar brick) as a newly generated way of building in the facade. Thereby, it finds itself a place in the collective memory of people of Bartın city.

This is landscape architecture and more, portfolio design and graphic productions Here and There. My interest in design projects also embraces graphic productions. During the post-production of some projects in the office, my skills in graphic design get useful, such as; a book design, pictogram icon set, and infographic design. Also, during my study years, I have designed posters for design club events. Design team credits of given images in the portfolio: Design of a portfolio, Illustrations, Drawings by Bilgehan Kayaalp

Graphic productions here are divided into three parts. First is a book design; ‘ This is Landscape Architecture. ‘ is a bilingual book designed for the presentation of Caps‘ conceptual works. Demonstrated pictures on this part are cover page, info page, and content page in that order. Moreover, there are explanations for the title-page design that focuses on a brief about projects and tags. Graphics represent project trademarks for catching some ideas before reading the project. The second is the poster design. During my university years, I designed a poster for the design club called Design Diaries. The event title is a Series of Concepts/ Identity. Poster design emphasizes on how personality shapes the beings, and what we look like if it does not exist hypothetically. Therefore the image is titled with a text which says -personality not included. Also, poster design for a competition project is demonstrated in this part. The project is an installation for a lifeguard station, themed as ‘beyond five senses’. Conceptual design centers the chair as a brain and places numerous connections around it. Poster design focuses on this idea.

Lastly, a pictogram icon set design ; On a further step of the competition, the proposal of creating a Movie Plato from an abandoned highway leads the team to create a pictogram set for the site plan drawings. On account of the program originality, the icon set is specific to the proposal. For the representation of resting areas in the architectural program, I was inspired by this photograph of a famous tv show for kids Teletubbies artist, while he is resting between shoots.

The installation (stadium), residental stadium project. Manhattan, New York, NY, States. The proposal is a response to call for residential stadium make designer think how architecture can provide solutions in stadium designs. Challange is proposing a design for an adaptive stadium that could also be used as a residential building after the world cup finished. Design team credits of given images in the portfolio: Design idea development by Mehmet Cemil Aktas, PÄąnar Kesim Aktas, Nergis Asar, Seyma Kahraman, Plan by Nergis Asar Design development, Modeling, Illustrations, Axonometric drawings by Bilgehan Kayaalp

Installation Stadium design system differentiates being permanent and temporary. It suggests a base construction that is a common space for residential units and stadium needs with referring to the neighborhood macroform. This base is permanent, while stadium needs like a tribune, roof, etc. are temporary. The height of the permanent construction refers to the urban fabric. This design approach provides maximum adaptation to the ground and respects the city silhouette. During the event, base building ground floor includes stadium service units, first and second floors (circulation and residential units). Loggia floor is the top floor for permanent building construction. After the event, ground-level turns to the commercial units and offices; the stadium’s temporary units will send other countries for the next organization (re-use). The red path is a remembrance piece of the stadium. It is open to public circulation.

Aksihar Square, urban design and architectural project. Manisa, Turkey. Through the traces of urban memory, Akhisar Old Municipality Square and its environment architecture and urban design idea are based on a dialogue between historical context and new city, and architectural necessaries of a square for the people of local. Design team credits of given images in the portfolio: Urban design idea development by Mehmet Cemil Aktas, Pınar Kesim Aktas, Nergis Asar, Seyma Kahraman, and Render by Okan Mutlu Akpınar, Landscape by Mehmet Cemil Aktas Urban design idea development, Architectural design, Illustrations, Plan, and section drawings by Bilgehan Kayaalp The core of the main cube is functioning as a conference room that is reachable with a black emphasized staircase from the exhibition hall. The design uses traditional local material (ısıklar brick) as a newly generated way of building in the facade. Thereby, it finds itself a place in the collective memory of people of Bartın city. Hub design principle preserves the old municipality building facade and structural system, while the building functions along with today’s events. Above, ground floor plan drawing demonstrates that building functions as a mini-convention center that has activity spaces like; public workspaces, ballroom, and conference room.

The North entrance of the building has connected to a newly designed commercial area. The area was a formerly abandoned commercial place. The proposal opens the site to re-use with an architectural design consists of a wooden structure pattern that allows locals to roam around in open public spaces and re-designed stores.

The design challenge here is to bring farming to the city where people can see, participate, and involve themselves in understanding how the food they eat is made. This is not just a plan to make people aware of, but a place where they can learn to contribute to the food cycle and create a sustainable ecosystem for the rampantly growing cities. Bee maya science museum, architectural graduation project. Istanbul, Turkey. The project undertakes to create a pedestrian connection between the north and south of the waterfront path, which is an interrupted connection on the macro scale. The pedestrian link above the water is a significant design element between two scales -macro and micro. Project tag : Lectured by BĂźlent Onur Turan, Bahcesehir University Architecture. Class Ar 4002 studies science center and technology museum. Submission type: Individual project submission For more: archiprix-tr.org 2017-project number 28 The design idea comes from a problem. The primary concern is to make the site accessible for the project on the macro scale. This is an urban design decision that affects the decisions in microscale. Such as; entrance etc. To begin with, the historical background of the project area is a start point for the design; In 2001, Miniaturk and Halic Convention Center had not been build yet. These buildings are the headstones of the future possible cultural seaside axe. Also, the green line on the seaside was not clear. In 2010, the permanent event points had been build. The potential of the cultural axe has started to grow, and the seaside identity is about to be indicated. On the other hand, reaching the area from the south became a problem. In 2017, the proposal aims to emphasize the complete cultural axe and the public green line from upside to the downside. The persistence of this axe is achieved by the steel pedestrian bridge built upon the sea. The architectural design system is presented below. Phase#1 Cultural axe is a connection from the north to the south side of the area and is designed as a pedestrian walkway. The project is shaped by macro scale decisions that also solve the micro-scale design problems.

Phase#2 Functions, Circulation Volumes are attached to the circulation backbone The backbone is designed to work for both service axes -restaurant and exhibitions. Circulation is divided into two; vertical and horizontal. Vertical circulation is provided by two cores. One is for the formal side - meeting hall, library, etc.. the other is for the exhibition and workshop functions. Horizontal circulation is the backbone itself. Design mainly consists of two levels. Most of the functions are getting the view of Halic- golden horn. Phase#3 Elevate Skeleton system Uprising the mass to let the ground be public Minimum negative touches with the earth. Let there be humans on the ground. Phase#4 Roof design Open, closed, and semi-open areas are defined by the needs of the functions.
