United Way of Greater Stark County collects LEGO blocks to give local children in need (Canton, OH) October 5, 2015 -­‐ United Way of Greater Stark County hopes to provide children in need with something fun and educational. The agency is collecting new and almost new LEGO blocks to be delivered to area children. The LEGO drive ends Thursday, Oct. 22. United Way staff and volunteers will clean and package the LEGOs in tennis ball cans for distribution on “Make a Difference Day,” Saturday, Oct. 24. “As we do throughout the year, United Way is mobilizing volunteers to impact local children,” said Maria Heege, President and CEO, United Way of Greater Stark County. “Studies show that LEGO building helps children develop thinking improves creativity and literacy skills, boosts motor development, and much more.” How can you help? Businesses and organizations are encouraged to host LEGO drives. United Way of Greater Stark County has marketing materials for the drive on its website http://tinyurl.com/StarkLegoDrive. Individuals can also drop off new and almost new LEGO blocks to one of the following locations: • United Way of Greater Stark County, 401 Market Ave. N. in downtown Canton • University of Mount Union, Regula Center, 1972 Clark Ave in Alliance • Massillon Public Library, Children’s Library, 208 Lincoln Way E, in downtown Massillon • Paul and Carol David YMCA, 7389 Caritas Circle Northwest in Massillon • Lake Community Branch Stark County District Library, 11955 Market Ave NW in Uniontown • Sir Troy’s Toy Kingdom, 1180 Main Street in North Canton Volunteers are invited to join United Way on Saturday, Oct. 24, 8:30 a.m.-­‐12:30 p.m., to help clean, weigh and pack LEGO bricks for distribution. The packing party will take place at United Way of Greater Stark County, 401 Market Avenue North, Suite 300 in downtown Canton. The LEGO Project is sponsored by United Way Volunteer Resource Center.
