STUDIO PRACTICE Statement of Intent Name Billie Francis Blog Address Date 14th May 2017 http://b-francis1417-sp.blogspot.co.uk Rationale Within OUIL603 I want to develop my editorial skills. I want to work from a set text/ brief and be able to effectively communicate this. This means I will be able to explore visual metaphors and become efficient at communicating through strong concepts. I need to look into editorial illustration and develop a better understanding of this discipline. Whilst gaining this knowledge I need to develop my digital skills and these skills will be important for this discipline, as it will help with the quick nature of the briefs. Linking to editorial I want to look at Book Publishing. I like how it produces a different outcome to editorial but have a similar process. This means I will be able to apply my skills to a different aspect, creating strong conceptual ideas but having a new focus of narrative. I need to research into this discipline more, learning about narrative and how to effectively communicate a story. Other than these being the two main focuses of my practice, I also want to produce strong portfolio pieces. I want to push editorial and publishing, however I don’t want to neglect myself to these and explore different aspects of Illustration. I think this will be good experience as I will be able to translate my skills and adapt to other projects, constantly challenging myself and progressing my practice.
