Greetings!
I’m excited to unveil the new 55+ Senior Scoop Newsletter from the Billings Parks and Recreation Department. If you’re receiving this newsletter, then you’ve visited the Billings Community and Senior Center in the last year or have enrolled in a Parks and Recreation Senior Program! This newsletter is free to receive, so spread the word! If your friends or family would like to receive a newsletter, tell them to give us a call at 406-657-3050. In addition to the newsletter, we have many reasons to celebrate the closing of 2017 and welcoming of 2018. This year we had over 19,000 visits to the Billings Community and Senior Center. Many of the programs have reached maximum capacity including the ever-popular Strong and Fit class which has increased in participation by 75% In 2017, we added 9 new senior programs. Two popular programs included the Coffee Conversations morning walking group and the day-trip to the Tippet Rise Art Center – both of which reached maximum participation as well! Although I have many reasons to be grateful for the new faces and new programs, I can’t say enough about the many familiar faces that visit our center each day and have for years. Programs and services such as art classes, card games, daily lunches, and wellness clinics remain popular reasons to visit the Center. It has also been great to see the community taking an interest in giving back to our seniors. The Billings Community and Senior center was selected as a volunteer site for the United Way Day of Caring in 2017 and over 20 volunteers helped paint the interior of the center and begin some landscaping outside. Additionally, there have been various visits from schools, and holiday events provided by service groups such as the Billings Breakfast Exchange Club and the Billings Jaycees. One of these holiday programs included the Senior Tour of Lights which hit an all-time high in participation. To say the least, our Center is a wonderful addition to the community and I look forward to continuing to serve seniors in Billings through 2018! Sincerly,
Triniti Halverson Senior Service Specialist

Reservations can be made in person or call either the Billings Community and Senior Center or the Adult Resource Alliance. Lunch prices are $6 for ages 59 and under and $4 for 60 and older. Volunteer Ardyce Dennis, age 85, has been a volunteer at the Billings Community and Senior Center for 16 years. Ardyce moved to Billings in 1950 from Hysham, Montana, where her family still lives today. Ardyce can be found weekly greeting guests into the Billings Senior Citizen’s Gramma’s Attic and occasionally playing Rummikub on Tuesdays. Although Ardyce volunteers in the thrift store now, she has held many other positions including greeter, front office help, and on the Billings Senior Citizens Inc. Board. After working for 43 years, many in the trucking industry, Ardyce was looking for something to keep her busy in retirement – outside of knitting, crocheting, and sewing of course. She joyfully remembered her first official shift as a volunteer because she never even made it to the Center. She laughs as she tells the story of her furnace going out that day. However, that didn’t stop her from getting involved and staying involved since then. When asked what Ardyce would say to someone thinking of getting involved at the Billings Community and Senior Center as a volunteer, she said, “Do it! It’s fun and you get to meet nice people.”
