Lana Mahugh, age 71, volunteered her first shift at the Billings Community and Senior Center on March 28th and boy did she hit the ground running. Lana is working to create a book exchange program with the many books that have been recently donated to the Center. The program will be called The Lending Library. Lana finds herself organizing events, costumes, books and more! She dedicates time to St. Vincent De Paul, Billings Studio Theatre in the costume department, Toys for Tots, and the Adult Resource Alliance. With such a busy volunteer schedule, one might ask, what do your loved ones think of all of your volunteering, she light-heartedly laughed as she responded, “My husband asked me if it would be possible to volunteer at home too.” She tells of meeting her husband through work after moving to Montana, after traveling around for about 8 years. Lana worked for Pierce Homes and worked in that industry for 20 years before retiring about 2 years ago. She speaks fondly of traveling around Europe for six weeks with her husband after retirement with a special appreciation for the time spent in Ireland and Sweden. Lana is just a joy to be around as her energy and passion for volunteering is contagious. She gladly shares what she enjoys about the different organizations that she volunteers for. As for the Billings Community and Senior Center, she says that it’s the people and the friendly atmosphere. She looks forward to coming back weekly to restock new book donations. For anyone considering volunteering for the first time, Lana shares,

“It does your heart and sole good to volunteer.”
