THE DUPONT CIRCLE, WASHINGTON DC REIMAGINED: EARLY SUMMER 2019

Multi-million-dollar transformation to be unveiled by The Doyle Collection’s design team in collaboration with Martin Brudnizki and Clodagh Design

Following the recent relaunch of The Bloomsbury which took London by storm, The Doyle Collection - the Irish, family owned and managed group of luxury hotels in Ireland, the UK, and US – has set its sights on Washington DC and The Dupont Circle. This multimillion-dollar hotel transformation has been spearheaded by Bernie Gallagher, Chairman of The Doyle Collection, in collaboration with interior designer, Martin Brudnizki on the new restaurant and bar. While Clodagh Design has worked her magic on the lobby and the hotel’s top suite, which will be the largest penthouse in Washington.

The Dupont Circle will relaunch in early Summer 2019 and will bring European style and quality of service to the city. In addition, renowned hotelier Joel Freyburg has recently joined the team to lead the launch as General Manager. The public spaces have been transformed and the exclusive new lobby will also be designed by Clodagh and will entice guests to relax in the residence-only space, complete with a cosy fireplace and the look of a high-end apartment. While long beloved as a Dupont Circle pillar, Bar Dupont will be transformed by Martin Brudnizki Design Studio into Doyle – a warm, club-like space with geometric tiled floors, wood panelling, and contemporary fireplaces. Working with the original 1950s’ architecture, fully glazed and high gloss lacquer walls with fluted detailing will create a glamorous feel.

The new restaurant, The Pembroke will have a light, fresh feel with white-finished timber panelled walls and wooden slatted flooring, complete with cherry blossom trees, paying homage to Washington’s famous cherry blossom season (typically between March – April). Large glazed windows give impressive views of the restaurants terrace and across the city, where guests can choose to eat al fresco, overlooking the bustling neighbourhood. The hotel will also be home to a new Doyle&Co Coffee & Chocolate Bar which will bring a relaxed and casual element to and will allow locals and guests to pop in for takeaway drinks and light snacks. Accommodation at The Dupont Circle is also having an overhaul and The Rooftop Floor will be home to the largest suite in the city. A 5,000sq ft Penthouse suite will be created with an enormous garden terrace overlooking the Dupont Circle with views of the Washington Monument.

HOW: The hotel will relaunch in Summer 2019. Rates will start from $300 per night. www.thedoylecollection.com

DINE ABOARD THE WORLDS MOST FAMOUS SHIP

Luxury adventure specialist Cookson Adventures is offering nine lucky people the opportunity to wine and dine aboard the wreck of the Titanic as part of a survey expedition of one of the world’s most famous ships.

The Titanic when it set sail in 1912 was the ultimate in luxury, but sadly for 1,500 of its 2,240 passengers and crew its untimely sideswiping of an iceberg during its maiden voyage from Southampton to New York saw the vessel sink to the watery depths of the Atlantic. Since its discovery in 1985, only a handful of people have set eyes on the Titanic – including James Cameron who used footage of the wreck in his 1997 blockbuster film.

The epic adventure will begin with an overnight sail to the wreck and then accompanied by a team of professional, Titan a submersible will dive throughout the Titanic on a detailed guide taking in the ship’s deck, bridge, radio room and grand staircase, chefs will then re-create a 10-course dinner that first class passengers ate aboard the ship before the Titanic collided with the iceberg. Wines from the period will be paired with food, including a bottle of 1907 Heidsieck Gout Champagne which was drunk on the Titanic and salvaged from the wreck of a Swedish schooner that sank in 1916.

Cookson Adventure have not revealed the price of this epic excursion for more information visit their website www.cooksonadventures.com
