What began as a spontaneous shot taken whimsically through the car windscreen on a rainy day in Chicago expanded into an ongoing investigation into ephemeral aspects of the city.

weather spell Suddenly impressionistic umbrella studies; images of shadowy smokers exiled from non-smoking office buildings; figures emerging from arcades of neon; vehicles engulfed in avalanches of snow, and wandering, isolated silhouettes reveal something about the irrevocable influence of the elements and the paradoxical loneliness of the metropolis.

“...upon first glance it seems Bill Sosin takes a laissez-faire approach to his abstractions. With further scrutiny, however, one can see the careful construction of color and shape glazed over beautifully muddled stories. Sosin walks a thin line between letting the light be his guide and exerting control over his photographic space, and this push and pull is an enjoyable thing to experience.”

—Rebecca Leib / art ltd, May 2010 review, DNJ Gallery, LA
