Lighting Control Services Planning We are professionals. As professionals, we believe it is our duty to identify and define a fixed scope of work for our services to meet the needs of your lighting project. With a fixed scope of work, we can provide you a fixed fee for our services so you may know the total cost of ownership for your lighting control system. The primary means we use to define a fixed scope of work is by planning the overall concept for your lighting control project in terms of the controlled lighting loads, control points, and integration with other systems. A lighting plan and client interview are both essential elements in the planning phase to determine the importance of system features including safety, convenience, scene control, and energy efficiency. Our deliverable to you from the planning phase includes: Preliminary bill of materials for submission to your lighting control supplier Proposal for our services Engineering We are pragmatic. Our pragmatic approach to engineering your lighting control system places primary focus on delivering an intuitive user experience while respecting cost, meeting building codes, and applying knowledgeable consideration to the installation requirements of all system equipment. Using the lighting plan for the project, we will develop a control system plan for use in performing the system installation. Complementing the control plan are detailed lighting load, control panel wiring, and control station schedules. Our logical framework for identifying lighting loads and control points produces documentation which makes the system installation, programming, commissioning, testing, and tuning processes coordinated and highly efficient. Our deliverable to you from the engineering phase includes: Lighting control plan Engineering package – Load schedule, panel schedule, control point schedule, room schedule Final bill of materials for submission to your lighting control supplier Electronic document delivery Programming We are certified. For each lighting control system platform that we support, we have manufacturer certification. After engineering your lighting control system in the manufacturer’s software platform, we deploy our proven standards for control station programming, engraving, scene, pathway, and timed events which define the system’s operation. These standards are fully documented in our scope of work for your project in order to define the features to be included in your system and define exactly where the finish line is located. We understand professional illumination practices
and the use of lighting layers. Our programming standards consider ambient, accent, and task lighting elements in the activation of rooms, paths, and scenes. Energy efficient features are leveraged into each of our programming schemas. Consistency is the primary driver in the setup and programming of the lighting control systems we design. Flexibility is the tool we give the user through the application of intelligent and simple to understand features on each lighting control point. This flexibility reduces the user’s dependence on programming changes and ensures the user’s enjoyment and satisfaction with the system.
More…Programming Our deliverables to you in the Programming Phase include: Programming of each button on each control point Programming of global scenes Programming of paths Programming of timed events Programming for integration with other systems Programming package – control point, global scenes, timed event reports System source code files Electronic document and file delivery Commissioning We are experienced. Hands on experience with installing, troubleshooting, and training users makes us a valuable resource for commissioning lighting control your lighting control system. Depending on the lighting control equipment selected for your project specific power-up, upload, and addressing procedures are required which we define as commissioning. This important phase relies on the engineering and programming documentation we provide. This optional service is an efficient way of putting your lighting control system into service using our staff or in collaboration with your staff. We can commission systems on-site or remotely using collaborative online tools and your staff. Our deliverables to you in the Commissioning Phase include: Review and check of critical system equipment connections and settings Sequential power-up and check of system equipment Upload of programmed source code files Device addressing where applicable Testing We are thorough. Using the programming reports as our guide, all system control points, timed events, and integration features are tested for their intended functionality. Programming errors are corrected, uploaded, and retested. This optional service is an efficient way of testing the features and functionality of your lighting control system prior to hand-off to the end user by using our staff or in collaboration with your staff. We can test systems on-site or remotely using collaborative online tools and your staff. Our deliverables to you in the Testing Phase include: Review and verification of system functionality at each control point Simulation and verification of all timed event functionality Application of corrective programming measures Updated programming package – control point, global scenes, timed event reports Training We are teachers. In this optional service, we encourage the end user to press the buttons on key control points during a guided tour of the system where their learning begins. Within the first few minutes of our tour, users understand the logical naming and simple operation of each control point and begin to experience the safety, convenience, and pleasing dramatic effects created through the control of light. Soon the tour becomes self guided while we listen to the user’s excitement and note their likes and preferences of the preset light levels and fade rates between each control point button press. More…Training
Our tour concludes with a review of the programming documentation which defines the functionality of each control point and the unseen timed events. Our deliverables to you in the Training Phase include: On-site guided tour of each control point and explanation of key functionality Explanation and review of programming documentation Encouragement of the user to record any changes for use in the Tuning Phase Tuning We are great listeners. After the installation of furnishings, artwork, and other decorative elements, the time is right to make specific preset lighting level adjustments to the rooms, paths, and scenes. In this optional service, we listen to the users discovered preferences in order to implement each of them to the system’s program. As professionals, we can closely anticipate the effort required to tune the lighting control system based on the number of lighting loads, layers of illumination, important architectural features, specialty artwork, and user sensibility. We will include a fixed number of tuning sessions appropriate for the scale of the project in our fixed scope of work and provide an hourly rate quote for additional sessions where applicable. We can implement changes onsite or remotely using information provided to us by your staff. Our deliverables to you in the Tuning Phase include: Programming revision implementation Revised program upload and testing Revised engraving schedule where applicable Updated programming package – control point, global scenes, timed event reports Support We are flexible. Our business model is to provide you with efficient support services that are available when you need them and keep your business free of costly idle overhead. We can work independently with your clients as trusted partners since we intentionally do not have access to sell the products we support. We can also work transparently as one of your staff. By design, we provide you with project source code files and a logical programming framework so that you are not dependant on our services to make programming changes and can maintain your own projects. We know that through working with us, you will find it easier, more efficient, and more profitable to engage us on your lighting control projects. We define which of our services are optional or collaborative so that you can select which aspects of the project make logistical and economical sense to handle in-house. Fees We are professionals. Our objective is to provide you with a fixed fee for services. Project fees are based on our prevailing hourly rates and the total number of off-site and on-site hours we expect to expend in each phase of service we perform for your project. The primary factors we use to determine project fees are total number of controlled lighting loads and total number of control point buttons for the system. Secondary factors we use include on-site supervision requirements control plan documentation requirements. Our hourly rates are $95 for off-site work and $150 for on-site work. Projects outside of San Luis Obispo County, California are subject to reimbursable expenses for mileage, airfare, lodging, and per-diem. We do not apply fees for travel time.
