ABOUT
This diploma thesis deals with the management and re-occupation of the mining landscapes of Serifos, more specifically in the bays of Koutalas and Mega Livadi. The proposal consists basically of landscape manipulations on the two bays, with the parallel establishment of a research center and a mining museum respectively. Sta Starting with the inclusion of the mining landscapes of Serifos in a wider network for the promotion of the industrial heritage of the Aegean Sea, that was proposed in the research thesis, Serifos island is studied as a characteristic field of practice and design. A deeper study and analysis of the mining landscape of the island, that consists of industrial remains as well as multidimensional natural qualities, lead to the configuration of a system of mild interventions, that takes the landscape into account, as well as the collective memory and social and developing factors. The proposal consists of paths, landscape installations, reused industrial shells and new building facilities and aims to relive the landscape experience, historically and in a personal way, and to the reactivation of the mining landscape and its re-establishment on the modern way of life of the island.

ABOUT
The aim of the last Architectural Design studio was to design a completely new neighbourhood almost from scratch. The idea started from the analysis of the selected area, moved on to suggesting a scenario for the organization of neighbourhood blocks and uses on an urban scale and finally focused on studying and designing a residential block with public uses. The selected area was Elaionas, on the outskirts of Athens, which used to be a huge olive grove, changed rapidly to host the waves of immigrants around 1922 and is currently one of the biggest bases for logistics in Attica. Although the area is mostly unbuilt, its uses and lack of organization disocnnect it from the city. Inside this area, a smaller part with a small stream was selected for the scenario. The main roads were derived from the current urban grid around the area, in order to improve its connectivity. These axes formed the blocks for the new neighbourhood, which hosted a mix of residential, public and commercial spaces, as long as with an open market and an extension for the Agricultural University that is located nearby. The area adjacent to the stream was also studied, in order for it to become a vital part of the new neighbourhood. The proposed typical block is organized in a way that it allows the public space to flow through it. The centre of every block is designed as a semi-public common space, while the uses are concentrated on the perimeter. The commercial and common indoor uses are located on the ground floor, with some communal areas for the residents on the upper floors. For the apart ments, a wide typology was proposed, based on the number of tenants and their financial status.

ABOUT
Through this annual course, a multifunctional public building was conceived, designed and studied in multiple scales. The first semester focused on the architectural analysis of the building and the second on the structural details for the realization of the idea, from the scale of 1 : 2000 to 1 : 5.

The aim was to design a building that would function as a co-working space for artists in the former industrial area of Kerameikos. Apart from the working spaces, that had to be designed in the concept of an “open plan” space, the building also hosted an auditorium, exhibition spaces and a small shop for the creations of the artists. The way the public and the mo private uses was a key point of the design more process, as well as the role of the outdoor public space runs throughout the proposed idea. The proposed building bears the title “WorkBox” and is indeed a sum of three-dimensional boxes, based on a grid created by the axons of the adjacent streets. The addition and the subtraction of these boxes create all the public and more private spaces of the building, which is a metal construction based on the structural system of Delta Beams. Another distinctive cha characteristic of the proposed building is the folding metal facades that can be adjusted independently for each box, depending on the lighting and the needs of the users.

ABOUT
The course challenged the students to rethink the urban space as a whole. The area of study was Kypriadou neighbourhood, designed as a “green city” before the uncontrolled urban sprawl of Athens. After studying the neighbourhood during all times of day and night, interviewing the locals to find out how they function inside the public space and analysing the ar through different aspects, the students had to area come up with their “neighborhood profile” find a way to solve the problems of the public space. Our group discerned that although the public space of the neighborhood is ample and full of greenery, the different social groups that live in it usually just pass through it because it is not well organized, it is poorly lit and full of cars. The proposed scenario offers the citizens the possibility to redesign the sideways and the public space themselves, through a wide variety of simple urban tools available by the municipality. An urban toolbox of public “furniture” and a series of constructions to replace the ones already used in the public space (bus stops, kiosks etc) ware designed for them. A pilot proposal for the placement of such equipment was studied, through locating more suitable streets for it and trying to solve the problems in specific spots of the neighbourhood. The concept was that if some basic spots were redesigned by the municipality, the citizens would afterwards be more interested in expanding this new urban space right outside their doo and would cooperate and coexist in the public doors space more actively.

ABOUT
Through a basically experiential and sensory study of Filopappos Hill, in the centre of Athens, the studio provoked the students to address the problems they located through a landscape intervention that would give more life to this historical hill. Although the hill has an active and lively relationship with the historical part of the city, it remains completely disconnected with Petralona, the newer, urban part of the city in the west of the hill. The heavy traffic road that circles the hill on that part contributes to this disconnection. Therefore, the proposed idea aims to surpass this barrier, through a new bold linear “engraving”, perpendicular to the road. This engraving is actually a sum of landscape and urban interventions that could possibly host public activity and intensify the presence of people in this part of the hill. The scenario basically consists of a pedestrian “bridge”, that connects the hill with its smaller “cut-out” part on the opposite side of the road, and two landscape installations in each end that could function as concentration points for the public.

ABOUT
The course focused on the investigation of the meaning and function of theory in the process of architectural design. The subtitle of that semester’s project was “Local Utopias, Urban Inversions”, which meant that it aimed to create disruptions in the complex urban fabric of Athens. An analysis of a very familiar route for the students of the Architecture School of NTUA, namely the part of Patision Avenue from the Omonia Metro Station to the School of Architecture, was required. This analysis pointed out that the main problem of this route is that, although it is very central, everyone uses it only as a transition from one place to another and no one takes notice of the beauty it has to offer, it being full of greenery and pedestrian streets Furthermore, the urban and economic crisis has affected this central part of the city more than others and it has created the need to revitalize such important urban arteries of movement. The project had to offer an alternative way of re-inhabiting the city centre, based more on a theoretical approach and less on a practical way of realization. The proposed solution is an actual grid of metal installations that create a network of ways to revitalize Patision Street. Based on the theory of the Fun Palace by Cedric Price, the metallic grid offers hybrid solu tions that absorb the already established uses of the street (bus stops, kiosks, information points, urban equipment) but also create the opportunity for new ones to occur. This physical network of activities is connected with a digital network of information, with some parts of the construction being available for “rent” through the web.

ABOUT
The aim of the studio was to design the setting for a theatre performance. Through studying and analyzing a theatre play, the object was to select a space in the urban environment which, with small interventions, could provide the qualities and the atmosphere for the performance. The play “Death Variations” by Jon Fosse was selected, which is a retrospective dialogue of two parents over the suicide of their daughter. The 4 characters of the play, in different time periods, co-exist and throughout the play they react with each other even though their physical presence isn’t literally there. A space which could offer the literal division of at least one of the 3 dimensions was needed, in order for all the characters to be present in the same 2D plane, but never actually to meet. Therefore, the former outdoor diving pool of the Athens Olympic Complex was selected, which can indeed offer this special characteristic and the layout of which could alternatively serve as a theatre. The space itself and the installa tions proposed enclose a lot of hidden meanings and symbolizations that enhance the performance and make the full immersion of the spectator possible. The project was featured in the “[OUT]Topias – Perfomance and Outdoor/Public Space” exhibition at the Benaki Museum from September to November 2016.

ABOUT
The course focused on traditional construction systems, the study of their construction and measured drawing of their construction elements on site. The study included full documentation analysis of damages and their causes and suggestions for re-use and restoration of buildings focusing on repair and reinforcement. After a 5-day field trip in Crete and an extens study of the selected building, in this case a extensive traditional two-storey housing complex, the studio focused on historical research, the decoding of the building phases and techniques and the detection of the building pathology. A wide range of drawings by hand completed the analysis.
Axonometric Diagram of Pathology
Afterwards, techniques for the restoration of the building were studied, with the aim of re-using it as a traditional product shop, a small distillery and a cafĂŠ.

ABOUT
The project was conducted for a panhellenic competition for architecture students during June 2015, organized by the Hellenic Institute of Architecture and the Greek Union for Timber. It is about a self-preserving wooden construction that is supposed to function as an information point for the municipality of Athens. A basic cubic unit was extensively studied as the fundamental module for the construction. The different and many combinations of this module, depending on the needs, the installation point and the available financing, offer a wide variety of possible solutions. The suggested construction consists of 9 cubic units which are combined with wooden planes to create the final result. The information point can be placed in any urban terrain and offers many surfaces for posters and advertisements. It also includes sitting surfaces, a TV screen, a multi-charger for phones and tablets and adjustable solar panels to make sure it is self preserving. The cost and the construction procedure were thoroughly studied, as they were part of the competition requirements. The project was shortlisted as one of the 12 best, out of 80 entries and 57 delivered projects.

ABOUT
The capital of Greece, Athens, is the place where I was born, raised, studied, and I am currently living and working. It has always been a personal point of stability and the start point of all of my travels and endeavors. The chaotic urban grid, the unorganized growth, the limitless effects of the economic and social crisis that had affected both the citizens and the built environment, the multi-dimensional crowd the city attracts, have all been points of inspiration for my projects and the way I presume life in a city. Throughout my life I have been photographing my surroundings with the means of my phone or my camera and without any training in photography, in order to create an “urban journal. I edit these photos or I use them to create collages afterwards, in order to intensify the way I see the city and the Athenian atmosphere and as a way of expressing my emotional st state at the moment each one was captured. Here is a sample of my most personal and continuous project.
