5 foods That Will Boost Your Mood
It’s a simple fact, certain foods can influence and boost your mood! We all have heard of aphrodisiacs, substances or food that will bring us in aroused moods. I will give you a small example. Chocolate contains phenylethylamine and this agent is responsible for people to feel more aroused. So if you eat some chocolate you will probably feel a sense of sexyness. Many people know phenylethylamine as a "love drug" and this is why in many parts of the world chocolate is supposed to be an aphrodisiac. Phenylethylamine (or PEA) is a substance that is found inside your body in a natural way and the effect resembles that of amphetamines. You can go on all night with your loved one and PEA resembles the brain chemistry of a man or a woman in love. When phenylethylamine levels are high in a human body, the substance is responsible for a similar reaction as that is produced when a person has fallen in love. Phenylethylamine is not the only chemical substance that we know of as being an aphrodisiac. In fish and seafood we find substantial concentrations of another “mood lifter” called selenium. In large amounts, selenium salts are toxic, but small amounts are absolutely needed for cellular function in quite a few organisms. Besides in fish we find dietary selenium in, among others, nuts, cereals, mushrooms and eggs. Those persons who have a low selenium level are frequently more anxious. By consuming fish and seafood, or other selenium-rich foods, they can increase selenium levels in their system to help them normalise their mood.
