ALBENDAZOLE BOLUS 600

(ALBENDAZOLE 600 mg) Composition Each bolus contains Albendazole B.P……….. 600mg Excipients………………….q.s. Indications ASHALBEN 600 is a broad spectrum antihelmintic effective in the removal and control of the following internal parasites of sheep, goat & cattle. Adult Liver Flukes: (Fasciola hepatica) Heads and segments of tapeworms: (Moniezia benedeni, M. expansa) Adult and 4th stage of larvae of intestinal worms: Thread necked internal worm (Nematodirus spathinges, N. helvetianus) Small intestinal worms (Cooperia punctata and Oncocerca spp) Adult and 4th stage of larvae of Intestinal Worms: Hook worm (Bunostomum phebotomum) Bankrupt worm (Trichostrongylus colubriformis) Nodular worm (Oesophagostomum radiatum) Adult and 4th stage larvae of stomach worms: Brown Stomach Worms, including 4th stage inhibited larvae (Ostertagia ostertagi), Barberpole Worm (Trichostrongylus axei). Adult 4th stage larvae of lung worms: (Dictyocaulus viviparus) . Contra-indications: Hypersensitive to albendazole or any components of ASHIALBEN 600 Pharmacodynamics: Albendazole is a benzimidazole anthelmintic active against most nematode and some cestodes. The drug exerts its anthelmintic activity by interfering with the normal metabolic functioning of the parasite. Albendazole selectively blocks glucose intake by adult helminthes in the intestine and their tissue dwelling larvae. Inhibition of glucose uptake leads to endogenous depletion of glycogen stored within the parasite. This in turn causes a decrease in the formation of adenosine triphosphate, which is essential for the survival and reproduction of the helminth. By this mechanism the drug slowly depletes the energy levels of the susceptible parasites, which are initially immobilized and then killed. Dosage For the removal of tape worms, Thread necked intestinal worm, small intestinal worm, Hook worm, Bankrupt worm, Nodular worm, give 7.5mg of albendazole per kg of body weight. For the removal of Adult Liver Fluke, give 15mg of Albendazole per kg of body weight. Side effects: Dosage of up to 5 times the therapeutic dose have been given to farm animals without producing significant side effects. Under experimental conditions the toxic effects appears to be associated with anorexia and nausea. The drug is not teratogenic when tested using the normal laboratory criteria. Precautions General: Animals being tested for neurocysticercosis should receive appropriate steroid and anticonvulsant therapy as required. Oral or intravenous corticosteroid should be considered to prevent hypersensitive episodes the first week of anti-cysticercal therapy. Warnings; Sheep, goat and cattle must not be slaughtered within 10 days following last treatment and the milk should not be used before 3 days of last treatment.

Precaution: Do not administer to female cattle during the first 45 days of pregnancy or 45 days after removal of bulls. Do not administer to ewes during the first 30 days of pregnancy or for 30 days after removal of the rams; consult your veterinarian for assistance in the diagnosis, treatment, and control of parasitism. Interactions; With other drugs: Albendazole has been shown to induce liver enzymes of the cytochrome P-150 responsible for its own metabolism. Therefore there is a theoretical risk of interaction with theophyline, anticonvulsants, anticoagulants, oral contraceptives and oral hypoglycaemics. Therefore, care should be exercised during the introduction of albendazole in animals receiving the above groups of compounds. Cimetidine and praziquantel have been reported to increase the plasma level of the albendazole active metabolite. Over dosage and treatment: No effects were reported. However, symptomatic and general supportive measures are recommended. Storage Store in well closed container at room temperature. Withdrawal period Meat: 10 days Milk: 3 days Shelf life: 4 days Packing 55 boli (blister packing of 11×5 bolus) Manufactured by: ASHISH LIFE SCIENCE PVT.
