INDICATIONS
DESCRIPTION
Cattle: For the treatment of bacterial pneumonias
• Potentiated sulphonamide injection. • Contains trimethoprim, a synthetic antibacterial, and sulfadoxine, a sulphonamide. The two components produce a sequential double blockade of bacterial metabolism, giving a level of activity many times greater than that obtain from either drug alone. • Provides effective antibacterial activity against a wide range of infections caused by Gram-
(including shipping fever); enteric and septicaemic colibacillosis and salmonellosis; foot rot and other septicaemias. Swine: For the treatment of bacterial pneumonia, colibacillosis, post-weaning scours, mastitismetritis-agalactia syndrome (MMA) of sows and bacterial arthritis.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION
PotenSulf®
Pr
Trimethoprim Sulfadoxine DIN 02240122
Veterinary Use Only ACTIVE INGREDIENTS: PotenSulf® Injection is a solution containing 4% w/v trimethoprim and 20% w/v sulfadoxine. Each mL contains 40 mg trimethoprim and 200 mg sulfadoxine. DESCRIPTION: PotenSulf® Injection contains trimethoprim, a synthetic antibacterial and sulfadoxine, a sulfonamide. The two components of PotenSulf® produce a sequential double blockage of bacterial metabolism, giving a level of activity many times greater than that obtained from either drug alone. PotenSulf® Injection provides effective antibacterial activity against a wide range of infections caused by Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria. PotenSulf® Injection has shown activity in vitro against the following organisms: Very sensitive organisms: Escherichia coli Clostridium spp. Shigella spp. Salmonella spp. Proteus mirabilis Bacillus anthracis Pasteurella spp. Haemophilus influenzae Streptococcus zooepidemicus Vibrio spp. Sensitive organisms: Streptococcus viridans Brucella spp. Enterococcus spp. Staphylococcus aureus including penicillinase producing organisms Proteus spp. Actinomyces
Corynebacterium spp. Bordetella spp. Neisseria spp. Klebsiella spp.
colibacillosis and salmonellosis. Other infections - infectious pododermatitis (foot rot, foul in the foot) and septicaemia. PotenSulf® Injection is indicated in swine for the treatment of: Respiratory tract infections - bacterial pneumonias. Alimentary tract infections - colibacillosis and post-weaning scours. Other infections - mastitis-metritis-agalactia syndrome of sows (MMA) and bacterial arthritis. DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION: PotenSulf® Injection should be administered at a dose rate of 16 mg/kg bodyweight, 3 mL per 45 kg (100 lb) daily. In piglets weighing less than 4.5 kg (10 lb), do not exceed a dose of 0.5 mL. Intramuscular injection is recommended for cattle and swine, but if a particularly rapid response is required in acute infections, PotenSulf® Injection can be administered by slow intravenous injection. Treatment should continue for 2-3 days after symptoms have subsided. The usual course of treatment is for not longer than 5 consecutive days. CONTRA-INDICATIONS: PotenSulf® Injection should not be used in cattle or swine showing marked liver parenchymal damage or blood dyscrasias, nor those with a history of sulphonamide sensitivity. ADVERSE REACTIONS: No significant adverse reactions have been reported.
Moderately sensitive organisms: CAUTIONS: With intravenous therapy generally and sulphonamides in Enterobacter aerogenes particular, hypersensitivity reactions can occur and should Nocardia spp. Non sensitive organisms: Pseudomonas aeruginosa* Mycobacterium tuberculosis Leptospira spp. Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae * usually non sensitive
INDICATIONS: PotenSulf® Injection may be used in cattle and swine where potent systemic antibacterial action against a wide range of infections caused by sensitive organisms is required. PotenSulf® Injection is indicated in cattle for the treatment of: Respiratory tract infections - bacterial pneumonias including bovine pneumonic pasteurellosis (shipping fever). Alimentary tract infections - primarily enteric and septicaemic
be appropriately treated with corticosteroids or epinephrine. Temporary, local, irritating swellings are encountered occasionally after intramuscular injection of PotenSulf®.
