INTRODUCTION
I’m the one who has always been there for friends when they needed me. I’m also a designer who faces many challenges, but will do anything to get there where design is concerned. Design has always been an important part of my life. I deal with a wide variety of problems and develop diverse solutions. Fear never stops me. Got there, been there and learned from it.

FINDING THE ANGEL
When you visualize, then you materialize. If you’ve been there in the mind, you will go there in the body. — Denis Waitley

FINDING THE ANGEL
OBJECTIVE Choose a song and make a poster for it. Work with a projector and its projection of different materials to create the images that will be used on the poster. Research every idea, emotion, metaphor, and visual that would be associated with the song. Compose these materials in a conceptual and personal context. The goal is to pull designers out of their comfort zone and give them confidence to generate the imagery manually.
APPROACH The song that I chose was “Angel”, by Sarah McLachlan. “Angel” was one of the first songs written for Surfacing. Sarah said that the song is about “tr ying not to take responsibility for other people’s problems and trying to love yourself at the same time.” I broke some parts of the type into flying fragments to invoke a feeling of dreaminess. I visualized my feelings and experimented with multiple visuals to enhance the sense of being lost but keeping hopes and dreams.

SEEING THE WORLD
If you want to go somewhere, it is best to find someone who has already been there. — Robert Kiyosaki

SEEING THE WORLD
OBJECTIVE Design a book to experiment with various typographic layouts. Come up with a visual concept based on a specific subject. Show the ability to create a cohesive layout which can flexibly fit with various contents. The goal is to have complete elements and consistent layout for the book to make a good reading experience.
APPROACH The topic I chose was study abroad. I used my typographic skills to design the book “A Student Guide to Study Abroad”. The book would give every student access to the vast information available on study abroad before they go. Yellow is the color of sunshine and hope, which matches with the objective. Bold type emphasizes the sense of independence in order to create dynamism and functionality.

OBJECTIVE To create a mobile application that solves a particular problem. Demonstrate the ability to go through the UX/UI design process which includes conducting user research, generating the application concept, preparing various prototypes, user testing, and designing the application with one complete user flow.
APPROACH People are more concerned about better health than they used to be, but it’s difficult to achieve. A new study shows that, even if some diet apps are good for health and easy to understand, they aren’t being followed by many Americans. The popular game Pokémon Go gave me some inspiration. I decided to design a fun app that helps promote a heathy life style. To increase people’s interest in healthy living and encourage them go into action, I designed some appealing characters.

FOLDING WITH PRECISION
Been there, done that, got the t-shirt.

FOLDING THE PRECISION
OBJECTIVE Create a comprehensive book to experiment with designing typography layout with images. Mentally and physically record things that we see, hear, touch and smell as we go about our daily routines. Then use these recordings to write and design a book similar to a journal but with more depth. It should reflect a central theme or idea that we develop from our daily observations.
APPROACH I recorded my daily folding routine in the book. My favorite hobby is organization. When I feel I need to stay away from assignments, I like to do laundry and really enjoy folding the clothes. In the book, I turned my hobby into a laundry company and designed the book like a laundr y manual for the brand, reflecting the essence of the concept.

OBJECTIVE Identify a problem that can be solved through the graphic design process and design a holistic visual system for it. Conduct research, investigate various audiences and stakeholders, and integrate a variety of design solutions using a comprehensive branding system. Show designer’s ability to create a sophisticated visual concept that matches the aim of the brand.
APPROACH Chinese bean snacks are a rare commodity in United States. Americans rarely see Chinese snacks in the market and even if they see them in Chinatown, they don’t understand what they are and wouldn’t want to tr y them. In this project, I want to get Americans to know what ChWinese bean snacks are and make them interested in trying them. I tried to promote a high-end snack concept, healthy bean snacks. They will give people sweet enjoyment in both look and taste.

THANKS
To my family, thank you for instilling so much love, determination, hard work, and dedication in me. To Mom and Dad, I could never have done this without your guidance, support, love, and reminders to keep a balanced life.
To my professors, thank you for teaching me so much. Through your guidance I have learned that I can achieve anything when I push myself. For that, thank you Hunter Wimmer, Phil Hamlett, Mary Scott, Bob Slote, Stanley Zienka, Andrew Johnson, Anthony Jagoda, Wioleta Kaminska. And thank you for Susan Pasley, who has been a great language support.
To my friends, thank you for providing support and encouragement in all we have worked towards. Liz, Ken, Lily, Irene, Vicky and Michelle, for always cheering my up when I wanted to give up, I have never done that without you.
