However, there are both advantages and disadvantages to taking an adaptive reuse project.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

PORTA DE CAPAO

Adaptive reuse is the process of taking an old building or site, and reusing it for a purpose other than it was designed. Typically, it is closely related to preservation or conservation around cities with rich history. However, there are both advantages and disadvantages to taking on adaptive reuse project.

START A REUSE PROJECT

Site location can often be the biggest advantage of adaptive reuse. The building is typically located by the river in Goa as it was a port in ancient times, and once was most likely to be a highly visited location. The building was deteriorated in some way, the character and the detailing found in these buildings are typically unique to the periods they were constructed, that modern building design lacks.

These features are often highlighted in the new use, and preserved versus getting hauled off to landfills. The details will offer one-of-a-kind site for the new function.

INFORMATION

The project site is located in a surrounding context of a QUAINT GOAN (PANJIM) TOWN. Along stretch of a meandering Belgaum Panjim highway is the means of access to site. On the North of the site is the MANDOVI RIVER (Lifeline Of Goa). Arrival to the Luxury Boutique is through a thick growth of lush trees along a meandering entry way, the guest is immediately transported to an area of Peace and Harmony.

Challenged and Possibilities

There are many factors that will play a role in finding the right Adaptive Reuse renovation. Planning and designing of space of a Boutique Luxury Hotel was a substantial challenge, however the function after reuse was divergent

SLUM REVITALIZATION URBAN DESIGN

JA G D A M B A C A M P A R EA INFORMATION Jagdamba camp (slum) is located in Sheikh Sarai - I near Malviya Nagar, South Delhi, India. The camp has come around an open drain. It is approximately 40 - 50 years old and spread over an area estimated to be a stretch of 1.5 kms with the drain running through the middle. The settlement took place in 1972, when the migrants started settling around the drain. Jagdamba camp is home to about 2500 registered voters and approximately 1500 - 2000 households live within the camp space.

1972-1982 1982-1992 1992-2002 2002-2012

HISTORY OF JAGDAMBA CAMP

The Development of the slum started from two nodes, the existing enteries. Entry one (towards Sheikh Sarai) Entry two (Towards Khirki Extension), therefore continues to develop in the leftout interior spaces. Later it started developing over the drain which led down to major issues in terms of Foul condition in the slum. 1972-1982 1982-1992 1992-2002 2002-2012

THESIS

The following map below shows the surrounding of the site. The area around provides job opportunities to the labour in the slum and to the migrants who have come to reside in this slum seeking for jobs.

Patterns that have evolved during time are reserved and existing , social networks are respected. Neighbors remains Neighbors and Local remains Local. The design was to construct rehabilitation units such as individual or Multiple houses, single or multiple storied in-situ on the same footprint Coverage or Rearranging the hutment structure in the same cluster.

PERSPECTIVE There are several types of problem existing in the slum, residents contact governemt and NGO,s but there has been no improvements. Therefore, there are very less funds for the redevelopment of the slum. The problems faced by the residents as visible in the pictures above which are non-negligible . Government promises developments and improvements but no actions have been taken yet, according to the surveys.

The plans above, before demolishing and after demolishing show the amount of space that is free to build new. This study has derived from the micro study and the analysis of site. With the help of retaining, demolishing and abandoned building graphs we could demolish the unnecessary built up mass and cleared the space for the different typologies of construction.

WH AT ARE TH E POSSI B LE W A YS O F I NT ER V ENT I O N?

Total demolition is not possible because of the following: (a) Finance and economic model, who pays for whom? (b) Few buildings are in acceptable condition (c) What is suitable for these people, who decides the optimum? R E TA I NI NG A LL : Retaining all wouldn’t have been a solution: (a) There is no space for new construction (b) It will not make any difference to the site, since old & dilapidated buildings still will be existing (c) Not demolishing will not open the space for new activities. P A R TI A L D E M O LI TI ON : Partial demolition is superlative: (a) Allows to demolish old, dilapidated and lower than road level construction (b) Gives space for systematic manner of construction (c) Allows to give facilities which leads to better living conditions. INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE

Interior architecture is so much more important than many understand it to be. As the key link between architecture and interior design, interior architecture plays a integral role in creating a well balanced project. Be it a subtle detail of a concealed built-in or the curve of the ceiling that gives the feeling of sublime proportion, we work tirelessly during this phase to ensure that every square inch inside your home has been carefully considered for livability and functionality.

There is hierarchical organization of the presentation: introduction to project, general massing, structure, space organization, interiors and details.

P U M A

I NT ER I O R D ES I G N Designing of a Puma store and interiors located in Florence, Italy. The project was about doing visual merchandise (designing window display) and dividing the space in the store in sections according to displays, such as sale sections, new collection, limited edition, accessories and soccer section. The further process was about doing interiors of the following sections. Puma is a very youth oreinted brand, therefore the challenge was to design something joyful, confident, brave and promotive to all the customers. INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE IS SO MUCH MORE IMPORTANT THAN MANY UNDERSTAND IT TO BE

“The vision was that all the products would embody the characteristics of a puma cat: Speed, Strength, suppleness, endurance and agility - the same attributes that a succesful athlete needs as well

Visual merchandise was a combination of technology and culture. I decided to work on Easter Theme with motion detector + LED screens so that it attracts the attention and eye of the people and customers walking by the store.

HONEY COMB

• A hexagon is an example of a polygon, or a shape with many sides. Hex is a Greek prefix which means 'six.' A regular hexagon has six sides that are all congruent, or equal in measurement. A regular hexagon is convex, meaning that the points of the hexagon all point outward. • Hexagons appear in honeycombs because they’re the most efficient way to fill a space with the least amount of material. Some shapes tessellate, meaning they can be repeated across a surface without leaving gaps or overlapping. Triangles and squares tessellate; circles and pentagons do not. Hexagons, which are themselves composed of tessellated triangles, do. Tessellation ensures that there’s neither wasted space nor wasted energy. MACRO TO MICRO - URBAN MASTER PLAN TO PROPOSED SITE MASTERPLAN

The green and yellow hexagons are the open spaces whereas the gaps are the built in spaces. The red line shows the central axis of the masterplan.

CONCEPT

HEALTH CARE

In a grid of hexagons the shapes perfectly interlock, with absolutely no gaps. But compared to other shapes that interlock like this, the lines of each hexagon are as short as they can be. Any other interlocking shape will have longer lines. The result of this is that they require less materials to construct and have a lot of compressive strength.

CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT

Aesthetic considerations include: •

Increased use of natural light, natural materials,

Use of artwork

Attention to proportions, color, scale, and detail

Bright, open, generously-scaled public spaces

Home like and intimate scale in patient rooms, day

ABOUT THE DESIGN

I wanted to show my way of seeing and doing architecture, that’s why I consider my portfolio very minimalistic, without too much information and drawings, only the ones I consider enough to explain the projects. From the typography to the position of the images and schemes, the whole portfolio is very light and elegant which its an accurate reflection of me. One of the most striking things about this design is the best way each image is cropped to the edge of its content rather than to a simple rectangle. There are no skies in the renderings, which along with the orientation of plans and diagrams creates an interesting and flexible white space that changes with every page.

The upholstrey used for furniture and other accessories is very chique and classy which enhances the look of the entire room. The paintings on the wallpaper breaks the monotony. RESIDENTIAL PROJECT
