Our radiology department is accredited by the American College of Radiology and Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories. This means we have voluntarily gone through a rigorous review process to ensure we meet nationally-accepted standards. Through education and certification, GMG personnel are well-qualified to obtain and interpret medical images. Our equipment is appropriate for the test or treatment you receive and the facility meets or exceeds quality-assurance and safety guidelines. GMG uses the latest diagnostic imaging technology available and offers several modalities of radiological services, including Computed Tomography (CT) scans, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Digital Mammography, Ultrasound Imaging, x-ray services, Bone Densitometry (DXA) exams and Ultrasound. GMG is staffed with a Board Certified Radiologist, experienced technicians and caring office personnel. Our success in reporting clinical images is the result of years of experience and is supported by referrals from the physician community. There are seven radiological services that GMG provides: 1. MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) – MRI is a test that uses a magnetic field and pulses of radio wave energy to provide images of organs and structures inside the body. 2. CT (Computerized Tomography) – CT (also called “CAT” scan), uses special x-ray equipment to obtain image data from different angles around the body. Then, a computer processes the information to show a cross-section of body tissues and organs. Images can also be formatted to 3D images. 3. Ultrasound – Ultrasound is a test that uses reflected sound waves to produce an image of organs and other structures in the body. 4. Vascular Studies – A Doppler ultrasound test uses reflected sound waves to evaluate blood as it flows through blood vessels. It helps doctors evaluate blood flow through the major arteries and veins in the arms, legs and neck. 5. Echocardiograms – Echocardiography (echo or echocardiogram) is a type of ultrasound test that uses high-pitched sound waves to produce an image of the heart.
6. Bone Densitometry – Bone densitometry is an x-ray test that quickly and accurately measures the density of bone. It is used primarily to detect osteopenia or osteoporosis. 7. Mammography – A mammogram is an x-ray of the breast used to detect breast cancer. It usually involves two x-rays of each breast. Using a mammogram, it is possible to detect a tumor that cannot be felt. We are a “Pink Ribbon Facility”, meaning we offer patients the highest quality digital mammography. The radiology department has a dedicated appointment/question line for your convenience. Please call 210-923-XRAY (9729) to speak with an Ancillary Coordinator.
RIS/PACS GMG’s Radiology Department also boasts industry-leading RIS/PACS (Radiology Information System/Picture Archiving and Communication System) technology. A PACS enables nearly instant access to images and patient data within radiology. Together with a RIS and other clinical information systems, images can be integrated with the radiology report and with other patient information systems, such as laboratory, pharmacy, cardiology and nursing reports.
