THESIS STATEMENT
REGATHERING IN DISTANCE
St Albans, a Melbourne western suburb, just ended a 155-days locked down stage. Covid-19 not only infected 624 people in the community, but also caused concern among residents about the public health safety of public indoor spaces. The outbreak also has plunged the community into a severe economic downturn that more than 50 small businesses have closed and unemployment rate increased up to 6%. The long term locked down policy increased residential demand of more parkland and safe outdoor facilities. The site used to be a landfill in the community and now is going to closed due to the complaining of community. The design will change the way people think about urban space in postCovid era, especially those locked down public places that were once locked down and considered as unsafe. Parkland will become an important place to support the local economic and regather people safely. To covert the existing landfill into a new landscape, the design carried on two precedents which have been proved change the way how people think about the park in the La Villette Park and Freshkill Park. These two park used a matrix to solve specific issues. A safe regathering topology (bottom layer) is created based on the air circulation of the site. A micro-economic valley will become the core of the park, connecting the different gathering zone. 10 flexible Pavilions will implant different open air living scenarios for the park which can also become a pop-up shelter in emergency situation.

The disaster are coming more and more frequently in these decade This thesis will discuss that if one day Melbourne was attacked by disaster and totally locked down again, is the park will be the refuge to support Melbourne people normal life in next disaster. Stage 4 make Melbourne People locked down in 5 km away from home but some area are quite hard to access the park. Post code 3021 is one of these area and also the first locked down area with highest infection rate and cases. The things happened in 3021 in 2020 means that it may still one of the weakness community in next extreme situation.

One thing important in refuge is the storage problrm. The idea of this framework comes from Matryoshka doll that it can combine and separate .In normal time, it would be a park facilities and when in post disaster, it can separate into many temporary shelter
