Page 1

We often get frustrated because our computer downloaded some updates without our desire and when we try to turn off the computer it will take forever to turn off and again forever to turn on. Another time is when an application we installed turned on updates without any notification and the same thing happens again. Even if we change Windows updates setting, it isn’t a safe way to prevent your Windows from installing updates. In this tutorial we will show you how to disable Windows 7 updates using Policy editor. Note: If you are using Windows 7 Home Premium it might not work for you. This works for Windows Ultimate. However you can do the same thing using Registry editor.

Step 1: The very first step we have to do is to open group policy editor, to do that write “Gpedit.msc” in Start Menu. Alternatively you can use open “Run” in Start Menu and write “Gpedit.msc”.

After you press “Enter “or “OK” the following window will show up.

Step 2: Since we are going to configure Windows 7 Update setting, we need to go to the user configuration and select “Administrative Templates” After you click “User configurations” then “Administrative templates” the following window will show up.

As you can see in the above picture there are a lot of things we can configure about your computer. However to continue with configuration of Windows 7 updates setting we need to select “Windows components and the following window show up.

We are on step away to disable windows 7 updates, click the Windows Updates and the following window will show up.

In this window there are three settings you can configure. However we are going to cover just two of them.

If you want to restrict the access to Windows Updates select “Remove access to use all Windows Features” and the following window will show up. To disable Windows 7 Updates you need to alter the setting from “Not configured” or “Disabled” to “Enabled”. Once you select the Enable option, you will get a another option, which is to configure notifications “ Select the one that suits you the most and press “OK”

If you are wondering if it this will work or not, you can test it by going to Windows setting and if it is working you will get the following window.
