Instead of performing Charles Dickens’ beloved holiday classic for the umpteenth time, three actors present every holiday story ever told—add a sprinkling of traditions from around the world, seasonal icons (including the Norelco Santa) from throughout history, and every carol ever sung—and you’ve got a madcap romp through the holiday season. Part vaudeville and part Complete Works of William Shakespeare… Abridged, Every Christmas Story Ever Told… is a fast, furious, and slightly irreverent look at holiday classics and traditions. Santa Claus, Rudolph, the Grinch, and just about every other seasonal character, make an appearance in this racy comedy that will have you laughing all the way to the New Year! This production is best for revelers ages 13 and up. Purchase tickets on the website.

Christmas Prelude December 2-13

Kennebunkport’s “Christmas Prelude” is the ultimate seaside holiday celebration and a great way to kick off the Christmas season. Prelude will remind you of Christmases of the past, when the whole town is transformed with bright lights, bows and boughs and everyone comes together to celebrate this festive time. The celebrations start off with the Dock Square tree lighting, where everyone gathers around as carolers take the stage to sing your favorite Christmas tunes. Other events include historic house tours, sleigh rides, concerts and more. Kids will love watching Santa arrive in town on a real Maine Lobster Boat! Shoppers will delight in the steals and deals around town, with stores offering great seasonal discounts for those looking to get a jump on their Christmas shopping! Many shop owners and galleries will even serve up cookies and fresh cider to warm up visitors as they browse. There are also several local craft fairs

Santacon 2015 December 5 Join other festively garbed participants spreading holiday “cheers” and “ho ho ho’s” to Santa’s favorite watering holes, as well as collecting donations for Family Crisis Services, a domestic violence support and prevention agency in Portland. Portland’s Santacon, now in its eighth year, features well over 400 Santas, Mrs. Clauses, Rudolphs, Christmas trees, Abominable Snowmen, mistletoes, Leg Lamps, Yukon Corneliui, and “Richard-in-a-Box” Elves. Below

Hours

Tue-Fri 6am-2pm Sat & Sun 6am-1pm

949 Forest Ave, Portland, ME 04103 (207) 878-6575 are some tips outlined by the event coordinators: 1. Come in costume – it’s kinda the whole point. Don’t be “that guy” who shows up with only a Santa hat on. Be creative. If you’re not into Santa, come as some other holiday themed person or object. We are sure to have some mistletoes, Christmas trees, snowmen, elves, Abominable Snowmen and reindeer among us. And maybe most importantly, the beer and food specials will only apply to people in costume! Do your wallet the favor! 2. Pace yourself. Santa eats

26

The Rowe Family of Dealerships Shop Local Guide 2015 dinner and likes to have a glass of water every now and then between his holiday beverages! With all those drink specials it’s going to be hard not to get a little too jolly, but don’t be “that” Santa. Santa reserves the right to deny that he knows you. 3. Tip well, treat the bars well and pay your tab. These places are nice enough to put up with us and to offer us some sweet deals, so return the favor! Santa is nothing if he’s not generous and joyous! 4. When you hear “Santas on the move,” finish your beer, pay your tab and follow the herd of Santas to the next spot. 5. Bring a camera. There truly is nothing like 400+ Santas marching down Congress St., ordering a beer, or doing anything for that matter. You will want to have photos to show your friends and family who not able to join us (or to help jog your own memory if you have one Prelude too many). The pics from last year are great, and with even more Santas this year, the photo ops will be plenty!

Harbor Lights Festival

December 5 The Harbor Lights Festival is a decades old tradition that helps to usher in the holiday season in true Maine style. With a distinctly nautical flavor, this festival is fun for the entire family and will help to get everyone in the holiday spirit. Festival highlights include Santa and Mrs. Claus and a whole cast of characters arriving in grand style‌ by boat, of course! There are horse drawn carriage rides, the festival of trees, a craft show, story time, tree lighting, and caroling. The evening concludes

with the lighted boat parade, where local captains deck their hulls with twinkling lights for a festive spin around the Harbor.
