cussing: How did policymakers in Europe and the US take over their role in establishing most needed pull incentives? Which new initiatives have been started to further push forward innovations in antimicrobial therapies and diagnostics? What updates can be provided by existing investors, funds and accelerators? Which approaches investigators are developing to improve the effi ciency of preclinical models as well as clinical trial designs?
Perspective of SMEs The 2022 conference edition, hosted by BIOCOM in cooperation with the European SME organisation BEAM Alliance, will be the fi rst face-to-face meeting of the AMR community in Europe for more than two years. Together with other major stakeholders such as CARB-X, the IMI AMR accelerator, the AMR Action
Fund, the Novo Repair Impact Fund and others, the stakeholders will explore further strategies to improve conditions for companies developing novel antimicrobials or AMR diagnostics. A special focus of the event is targeted to the perspective of innovative SMEs, their R&D pipeline, requirements for regulation and policy frameworks.
Improving clinical R&D In addition, the conference will be a platform to discuss innovative strategies to improve preclinical R&D as well as clinical trial designs. Among the partners of the event will be the EU-funded IMI AMR accelerator which is organising its annual meeting as a pre-conference event on 6 April. During the conference, the accelerator will provide, among others, particular insights on UNITE4TB, a 7-year, €185m new project aimed at changing the paradigm of clinical TB drug development. In addition, the conference will highlight innovative strategies such as phage therapies, vaccines and monoclonal antibodies, AI-driven models and novel diagnostics. Among the further highlights will be a startup competition, hosted by the pharmabacked incubator INCATE. Founders are requested to apply until January 31, 2022. The Top Ten will qualify for a pitch during the conference. L

Hunting results RENEWABLE MATERIALS The unique concept of the Renewable Material
Conference 2021 hit the mark: bio-based, CO2-based and recycled are the only alternatives to fossil-based chemicals and materials. In 2022, the conference will be held as a hybrid event in Cologne.
For the second time, nova-Institute presents numerous market highlights from bio- and CO2-based chemicals and materials as well as from chemical recycling: All material solutions based on renewable carbon. Together, there is sufficient potential to completely replace petrochemicals by 2050. To tackle climate change at its roots, all additional fossil carbon from the ground must be substituted with renewable alternatives. Over the course of three days, participants will get a comprehensive over-

The program includes a diverse range of bio-based materials such as bio-based polymers, plastics and biocomposites (fi rst and second generation, biowaste), CO 2-based materials (from fossil and biogenic point sources, atmosphere) as well as mechanically and chemically recycled materials. The innovation award “Renewable Material of the Year” will showcase the vast spectrum of renewable materials. The most outstanding winning products will be chosen by the conference participants and honoured at a festive awards ceremony. On-site, the conference will be accompanied by a large exhibition where companies and institutes can showcase their recent developments. The supporting program, networking activities and many secluded spots at the location offer excellent opportunities to make contacts. L
