Here are the two Arctic Blue® products contained in your Winter Kit and why they take great care of your pool water. Be sure to apply Arctic Blue Shock first.

When and how to close your pool

Visit your BioGuard Dealer in the spring

It’s best to wait until the pool water temperature drops below 65 degrees to begin your offseason closing. Just follow these steps to properly winterize:

Arctic Blue Shock

Step 1 – Assess the general condition of your pool water. The best way to do this is to bring a water sample to your local BioGuard Dealer. Make sure you take care of any existing problems such as visible algae or cloudy water before closing. If you close the pool with a problem unresolved, the situation is likely to get worse and your winter products will be consumed more rapidly.

You need to complete a few steps before going to your nearby BioGuard Dealer with a water sample. This preparation lays the groundwork for the most accurate and helpful water analysis – and a smooth spring opening.

• Unique, patented dual-action formula • Oxidizes and clarifies so pool water stays wonderfully clear • Fast-dissolving formula can be applied directly into pool • Provides long-lasting, stabilized chlorine protection • Ideal for pools with bleachable surfaces

Arctic Blue Algae Protector • Powerful formula prevents the growth of all types of pool algae in the off-season • Aides in maintaining pool water clarity when pool is not in use • Perfect for use in pools of all surface and filter types • Formulated for chlorine or bromine pools

Winter Shock II and Winter Floater WP are two more winterizing products you may want to consider. Your neighborhood BioGuard® Dealer can tell you more about them.

Step 2 – Brush and vacuum. Brush the pool surfaces and vacuum the pool to remove all visible debris. Clean the waterline with BioGuard Off the Wall®. Step 3 – Add the Arctic Blue products. Apply Arctic Blue Shock first, then use Arctic Blue Algae Protector. Use both products according to label instructions. Step 4 – Check your pool cover. Make sure there are no holes that would allow debris to get underneath the cover and into the water. The cover itself should be on top of the water surface, pulled tightly. Remove any excess debris that falls on the cover that could weigh it down during the winter months.

First, add fill water to skimmer’s midpoint, then remove pool cover and replace any equipment you removed before closing for the winter. Circulate the water for 24 to 48 hours. Using a clean plastic container (or even better, one provided by your dealer), scoop about a quart of water at elbow-depth from the pool. Seal the container to avoid leaks and take it to your BioGuard Dealer for testing and analysis. This way, you can make sure your pool water is balanced right from the beginning of the season.
