HOOKS AND EXTRAS
A 4mm Crochet Hook, or size that gives correct tension. A yarn needle.
TENSION
1 motif measures approx 14 cm x 14 cm, using 4mm hook.
Although exact tension is not essential for this blanket, yarn quantities have been calculated using this tension.
SPECIAL ABBREVIATIONS
bptr - back post treble; fptr - front post treble; popcorn - into the indicated st, tr6, then carefully remove hook from loop. From the front insert hook into top 1st tr of tr6 group. Insert hook into dropped loop and pull this through stitch on hook.
NOTE - ch3 at beginning of each round of motif square counts as 1 treble.
MOTIF (make 42)
Make a magic circle.
1st round - into magic circle ch3, tr15,
sl st to top of beginning ch = 16 sts.
2nd round - ch3, tr1 in same st, * popcorn in next st, tr2 in next st, rep from * popcorn in last st, sl st to top of beginning ch = 8 popcorn.
3rd round - ch3, tr1 in same st, * tr1 in next st, tr2 in next st, rep from * tr1 in last st, sl st to top of beginning ch = 36 sts.
4th round - As 2nd round = 18 popcorn.
5th round - ch3, tr in same st, * tr1 in next 2 sts, tr2 in next st, rep from * tr1 in each of last 2 sts, sl st to top of beginning ch = 72 sts.
6th round - ch4 (counts as dtr), dtr in same st, * dtr in next 2 sts, tr in next 2 sts, htr in next 2 sts, dc in next 5 sts, htr in next 2 sts, tr in next 2 sts, dtr in next 2 sts, (dtr2, ch2, dtr2) in next st, rep from * 3 more times, dtr in next 2 sts, tr in next 2 sts, htr in next 2 sts, dc in next 5 sts, htr in next 2 sts, tr in next 2 sts, dtr in next 2 sts, into beginning st work dtr2, ch2 sl st to top of beginning ch. Fasten off. If desired, block squares to size.
Join motifs in a 6 x 7 configuration using slip st or your preferred method. Darn in ends.
BORDERS
Short Borders - Join yarn to RS of short edge (6 squares) and work 3 rows of dc for border (stitch count is not essential). Fasten off.
Repeat for opposite edge.
Long Borders - ch2 at beginning of each row counts as 1 treble. Join yarn to RS of long edge (7 squares).
1st row - ch2, tr1 evenly along long edge (stitch count is not essential).
2nd row - ch2, * fptr, bptr, rep from * to last st, tr1 in space between last st made and last tr from previous row.
Cont creating ribbing (fptr,bptr) as in 2nd row until 11 rows have been worked, ending on the RS. Fasten off.
Repeat for other long edge.
FINISHING
Darn in all ends. If desired, cover with a towel and lightly iron to shape, alternatively if squares were not blocked prior to joining, block blanket now.
