CLASSIQUE YARN

100% Premium Acrylic / 8 Ply

1 (1-1-2-2) x ball/s 1st Colour (C1-Mid Grey #21)

1 (1-1-1-2) x ball/s 2nd Colour (C2-Pink Nectar #13)

NEEDLES AND EXTRAS

1 pair each 4mm and 4.50mm Knitting Needles, or sizes that give correct tension. A yarn needle; 1 stitch holder; 5 buttons.

TENSION

18 sts and 26 rows to 10 cm over stocking st, using 4.50mm needles AND 20 sts and 27.5 rows to 10 cm over slip st patt, using 4.50mm needles. This cardigan has been worked on bigger needles than normally recommended.

BACK

Using 4mm needles and C1, cast on 54 (58-62-66-70) sts.

Beg rib – 1st row (RS) – K2, * P2, K2, rep from * to end.

2nd row – P2, * K2, P2, rep from * to end.

Rep 1st and 2nd rows 4 times more, inc one st in centre of last row = 55 (59-63-67-71) sts,

10 rows rib in total.

Change to 4.50mm needles and beg slip st patt

Note – Always slip sts purlways in patt.

Using C1, 1st row (RS) – Knit.

2nd row – Purl.

Using C2, 3rd row - K1, * sl 1, K3, rep from * to last 2 sts, sl 1, K1.

4th row – P1, * sl 1, P3, rep from * to last 2 sts, sl 1, P1.

Using C1, 5th row – Knit.

6th row – Purl.

Using C2, 7th row – K3, * sl 1, K3, rep from * to end.

8th row – P3, * sl 1, P3, rep from * to end.

9th row – As 7th row

10th row – As 8th row

Rows 1 to 10 incl form slip st patt.

Cont in patt until work measures 17 (18-20-25-29) cm from beg, working last row on WS.

Shape Armholes – Keeping patt correct, cast off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows = 49 (53-57-61-65) sts.

Dec one st at each end of next row, then in every foll alt row until 45 (47-49-53-57) sts rem.

Cont in patt without shaping until armholes measure 12 (13-13-14-15) cm, working last row on WS.

Shape Shoulders – Cast off 4 (4-5-5-6) sts at beg of next 4 rows, then 5 (5-4-5-5) sts at beg of foll 2 rows.

Leave rem 19 (21-21-23-23) sts on a stitch holder

LEFT FRONT

Using 4mm needles and C1, cast on 27 (27-31-31-35) sts.

Beg rib – 1st row (RS) – K2, * P2, K2, rep from * to last st, K1.

2nd row – P3, * K2, P2, rep form * to end.

Rep 1st and 2nd rows 4 times more = 10 rows rib in total.

Change to 4.50mm needles and beg slip st patt.

Shape Neck – Next row (WS) – Cast off 4 (4-5-5-5) sts, patt to end = 18 (17-19-19-23) sts.

Dec one st at neck edge in every row until 13 (13-14-15-17) sts rem.

Cont without shaping until armhole measures same as Back to beg of shoulder shaping, ending with same patt row on WS.

Shape Shoulder – Cast off 4 (4-5-5-6) sts at beg of next row and foll alt row

Work 1 row. Cast off rem 5 (5-4-5-5) sts.

RIGHT FRONT

Using 4mm needles and C1, cast on 27 (27-31-31-35) sts.

Beg rib – 1st row (RS) – K3, * P2, K2, rep from * to end.

2nd row – P2, * K2, P2, rep form * to last st, P1.

Rep 1st and 2nd rows 4 times more = 10 rows rib in total.

Change to 4.50mm needles and beg slip st patt

Work in slip st patt as for Back until work measures same as Back to beg of armhole shaping, ending with same patt row on WS.

Shape Armhole – Keeping patt correct, cast off 3 sts at beg of next row = 24 (24-28-28-32) sts.

Dec one st at armhole edge in next row, then in every foll alt row until 22 (21-24-24-28) sts rem.

Cont in patt without shaping until armhole measures 8 (8.5-8.5-9-9.5) cm, working last row on WS.

Shape Neck – Next row (RS) – Cast off 4 (4-5-5-5) sts, patt to end = 18 (17-19-19-23) sts.

Work 1 row

Dec one st at neck edge in every row until 13 (13-14-15-17) sts rem.

Cont without shaping until armhole measures same as Back to beg of shoulder shaping, ending with same patt row on WS.

Work 1 row

Shape Shoulder – Cast off 4 (4-5-5-6) sts at beg of next row and foll alt row

Work 1 row. Cast off rem 5 (5-4-5-5) sts.

SLEEVES

Using 4mm needles and C1, cast on 30 (30-34-34-38) sts.

Beg rib – Work 10 rows rib as for lower band of Back, inc one st in centre of last row = 31 (31-35-35-39) sts.

Change to 4.50mm needles and beg slip st patt

Work 10 rows slip st patt as for Back.

Cont in slip st patt and working extra sts into patt, inc one st at each end of next row, then in every foll 4th (4th-6th-6th-8th) row until there are 41 (43-45-49-51) sts.

Cont in patt without shaping until work measures same as Back to beg of armhole shaping, ending with same patt row on WS.

Shape Top – Keeping patt correct, cast off 2 sts at beg of next 2 rows = 37 (39-41-45-47) sts. Dec one st at each end of next row, then in every foll alt row until 21 (21-25-29-29) sts rem, then in every row until 7 sts rem.

Cast off loosely

NECKBAND

Using mattress st, join shoulder seams. With RS facing, using 4mm needles and C1, knit up 15 (16-16-16-18) sts evenly along right front neck, knit across sts from back stitch holder –dec 1 (1-1-3-3) st/s evenly across, then knit up 15 (16-16-16-18) sts evenly along left front neck = 48 (52-52-52-56) sts.

1st row (WS) – P3, * K2, P2, rep from * to last st, P1.

2nd row – K3, * P2, K2, rep from * to last st, K1.

Rep last 2 rows once more, then 1st row once = 5 rows rib in total.

Cast off loosely in rib.

LEFT FRONT BAND

With RS facing, using 4mm needles and C1, knit up 58 (66-66-74-82) sts evenly along left front edge and side edge of neckband.

1st row (WS) – P2, * K2, P2, rep from * to end.

2nd row – K2, * P2, K2, rep from * to end.

Rep last 2 rows once more, then 1st row once = 5 rows rib in total.

Cast off loosely in rib.

RIGHT FRONT BAND

With RS facing, using 4mm needles and C1, knit up 58 (66-66-74-82) sts evenly along side edge of neckband and right front edge.

Work 2 rows rib as Left Front Band.

3rd row – Rib 4, yrn to make a st, rib 2tog, * rib 10 (12-12-14-16), yrn to make a st, rib 2tog, rep from * to last 4 sts, rib 4 = 5 buttonholes in all.

Work 2 rows rib. Cast off loosely in rib.

FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Join side and sleeve seams. Sew in sleeves. Sew on buttons to correspond with buttonholes.
