The network of important areas for bird conservation has been completed thanks to the identification of marine IBAs.

D

uring 2008, an analysis of the conservation status of over 100 Important Bird Areas (IBA) was conducted in Spain, with the help of volunteers who take charge of monitoring individual IBAs.This analysis suggests that over 55% of these areas are at high risk of suffering from some of the various threats which have been detected. The most frequently detected threats are those from human disturbance, transport networks and overexploitation.
