Big News... We’ve merged!

We have some REALLY wonderful news to share with you, which I am SOOO proud of, not just in terms of the growth of our lovely mag, but also the opportunity to be able to continue the spirit of the oldest publication in Felixstowe – the Felixstowe Town Crier. The Town Crier was set up over thirty years ago by a local family. Through the years they’ve spearheaded the promotion of community news and been a reliable vehicle to showcase local businesses.

After over four hundred issues, and with focus on his ever growing printing company, previous owner, John Bafico from Felix Press, was looking for an equally reliable publication company to carry on the goodwill of the Town Crier. We John Bafico and Mandeep Birdy are chuffed to pieces to say that we are the lucky new owners of this long-standing publication and officially announce the merge of the Town Crier with The Felixstowe Magazine. Here in your hands in our very first merge issue - Yipee!

Continuing the goodwill of the Town Crier and bringing under our wing all their loyal advertisers and community contributors who have supported the publication, is quite an honour. Some of your who know our team personally, know that we thrive of business and community service by promoting the town’s great establishments, news and people.

On behalf of the team, our existing advertisers and contributors, a huge warm welcome to all the new members of this family - we look forward to giving you many more years in our pages! We feel our “little mag with a lot of heart,” has deservedly grown to be “at the heart of the community” and we would like to thank you all - advertisers, the fabulous people of Felixstowe and our awesome readers - for your on-going support.

Win Meal for Two!

Once again, huge thanks to you all.

Local Lass With her final goodbye as she retires from her fundraising adventures, here’s Felixstowe’s favourite local lass, Aggy...

Make Aggy Waggy Thank you to you all...

On 27th August I had my fourth birthday - which made me think back to my third birthday spent with my Best Friend in the World, Diane. That was the last birthday we shared together before she died of cancer in February. A lot has changed since then. In March I started fund raising for Cancer Research. It wasn’t all about the money though; it was also to do with people connecting with me and helping to make me waggy again – which they did!

Now I have raised over £1000 - which was my target. It is quite miraculous – all without cycling The Great Wall of China, or baking 100 cup-cakes, or running a marathon. It just ‘virtually’ happened.

Thank you, each and every one of you. Thank you too, to the people who gave me money directly. Every coin and note was appreciated.

And that is the end of this (Sh)Aggy Dog Story.

Whenever a message came from the Just Giving page that someone had made a donation, my heart felt a little less broken.

Also the lovely people who helped in other ways or who even just read my Facebook posts. I felt you were all cheering me on and helping me, and I’m going to miss you.

P.J. HARPER

LANDSCAPE - CONSTRUCTION

So, what will I do now? I did go to the Job Centre and they said there was a job as a dancer. But, I said “That’s no good – I’ve got two left feet!” WOOF!

Well done Aggy! You can still give to Aggy’s appeal and follow her on Facebook until the end of September. www.facebook.com/makeaggywaggy

Introducing Felixstowe’s very own art group…

The Felixstowe Art Group

Founded in 1952, The Felixstowe Art Group, recently held their Annual Exhibition where many members took the opportunity to showcase and sell their work. Back in 1957 the exhibition contained work by two students from Bradford Art School. Many of their works were bought cheaply, however, these two lads, with little money, turned out later to be top artists - one being David Hockney, an internationally known painter. The other student was John Loker who settled on the Norfolk/Suffolk border and exhibited nationally. Years later a big auction house visited Ipswich and some people who had bought a Hockney for £5 or so, which later sold for £1,200! Another famous name connected with the Group is Carl Giles. He was Vice President of the Felixstowe Art Group and held this position until his death in 1995.

The current Vice President is local artist Michael Barratt. The watercolour picture shown is a view of the River Orwell painted by Michael who paints in quite a distinct style. He joined the group in 1977 and as well as painting he presents a variety of demonstrations and workshops to a number of art groups. The aim of the Felixstowe Art Group continues to encourage art in the community, accepting complete

Be Scam Aware

Protecting Our Elderly in Felixstowe In response to the recent reports of elderly people in the community being targeted by phone scammers, local at-home care provider, Home Instead Senior Care, is offering tips and advice to educate older people on how to protect themselves from falling victim to this abuse. Home Instead has partnered with national scam awareness charity, Think Jessica, to deliver a public education programme. The aim of the programme is to raise awareness of mass market scams and to provide as many people as possible with information on common scams targeting the elderly, as well as what to do if they have fallen victim to scammers. To do this, Home Instead’s Gill Bishop is hosting a series of presentations to members of the community and local organisations in Felixstowe. Home Instead has also put together a free ‘Senior Fraud Protection Kit’ which contains information on the most common scams, tools to help assess the risk of an elderly loved one, plus really useful checklists to help seniors take practical action to lower the risk of becoming a victim of a scam. Home Instead owner, Chris Lye, said, “Unfortunately, it comes as no surprise that elderly people in Felixstowe are being targeted by scams. The ‘faceless’ criminals who use

Therefore, in delivering the Senior Fraud Protection programme, it is our hope that we can branch out into the wider community and keep as many people as possible better informed and better armed with the knowledge to correctly recognise and respond to scams and scammers.” For information regarding the Senior Fraud Protection Kit and any upcoming workshops please call Home Instead Senior Care on 01394 618002

Key Lime Pie

Ingredients • 75g unsalted butter, melted • 200g ginger nut biscuits, plus 1 extra, crushed, to decorate • 6 unwaxed limes • 4 large free range egg yolks • 397g can condensed milk • 300ml pot double cream • Finely grated lime zest, to serve

Finely grate the zest from the limes and squeeze the juice. Whisk the egg yolks in a bowl.

Method Preheat the oven to 180°C, gas mark 4.

Gradually whisk in the condensed milk until smooth, then mix in the lime juice and zest.

Blitz the biscuits to a fine crumb in a food processor, add the melted butter and pulse until the mixture resembles wet sand.

Chill in the fridge for 3 hours.

Lightly grease a 23cm pie dish with a little of the melted butter.

Transfer to the prepared dish and spread over the bottom and up the sides, pressing the mixture down firmly with the back of a spoon. Bake for 5 minutes, until golden the remove from the oven and set aside to cool. Leave the oven on.

Pour the filling into the crust and level with the back of a spoon. Return to the oven for 15 minutes, or until just set, then remove and place the dish on a wire rack to cool at room temperature.

Whisk the cream until just stiff then spoon dollops over the top of the pie. Sprinkle over the lime zest and crushed biscuit to decorate before serving. If this doesn’t tickle your taste buds, we don’t know what will! Enjoy!!

Town Crier News

A huge ‘hello’ to the contributors of the Town Crier. Here they are continuing to give us their news and updates with events on our What’s On page...

Felixstowe Town and Around News With a new owner of the Town Crier, which is amalgamating with The Felixstowe Magazine, I am sure we all wish the venture great success.

I have been asked to continue writing so I am pleased to be able to share more updated information with you about the Town. What an amazing success the new Martello Park is proving to be for visitors and residents. I went down to the kiosks on the new Manor Terrace car park recently and as with my other visits found the whole area full of people all enjoying the new facilities. After all the hassle that surrounded the development of the area in the past it is a joy to see the plans and aspirations for the whole area come to fruition.

Brown bin collections and whether to charge for them have been in the news recently. Suffolk Coastal is one of the partner organisations that make up the Suffolk Waste Partnership. Some of the partners already charge for collecting the brown bins including Waveney. SCDC has not made any decision on charging yet. The partnership is looking at ways to reduce the amount of green/organic waste collected as well as driving down costs and reducing the subsidy paid to partner organisations most of which is borne by Suffolk CC. An emotive subject and one of which SCDC is very aware!

And many more...

The seafront gardens are due to open on the 17th August (official opening 26th) although the Town Hall gardens may not be ready as the shelter has to be installed. I hear the Spa Pavilion is hoping to open with some theatre performances in October and work to refurbish the inside is ongoing. Application was received to vary the plans for the Pier project – which Felixstowe Town Council approved. It seems that if this goes ahead at the end of this season the boating lake might yet be involved as part of that project. Pressure is continuing on SCDC to come forward with a scheme for the refurbishment of the boating lake.

New businesses opening in Town too! A hairdressing salon next to the British Red Cross shop, an interesting interiors shop in Victoria Street and if you haven’t yet visited Lillie’s in Orwell Road – you have missed a treat.

The Saturday of the Carnival was great – but oh dear, the Sunday was disaster! Good call by the Committee to cancel all events that day – but sad for everyone involved! I had a great time with everyone – thank you. Doreen Savage

Colneis Flower Club

Mellissa Sheldrake from Norwich was originally demonstrating with the theme ‘The Language of Flowers’. However, because she was soon to take her NAFAS National Demonstrators Assessment we agreed she could use the opportunity to demonstrate her test theme, ‘A Time Machine’. Mallissa’s containers were very inventive and her flowers very different from our usual demonstrations.

All the foliage used was in excellent condition and Mellissa was able to give us both the common and Latin names for all of them which was very impressive. By the end of her demonstration, both the stage and the area in front of the stage overflowed with unusual arrangements.

It was very interesting for the club members to have the opportunity to see and understand what demonstrators have to achieve when they are taking their various tests and also appreciate the amount of knowledge expected of them. See the What’s On page for our event on September 17th. I look forward to welcoming you. Margaret Miller

Lioness Club of Felixstowe

Our meeting at the beginning of August at the Brook Hotel was attended by most members; we also welcomed Lions District Governor Chris Crick and his wife, Evelyn, and four prospective members.

Chris updated us on news from the District and presented Lioness President Val with his badge. Our next fundraising events will be the Quiz on October 2nd at Broadway House and a Clairvoyant Evening on October 28th. Other exciting events are in the pipeline… Our recent social meeting was a gathering at the beach hut of one of the members. ‘What could be better’, we thought, ‘than lunch on the beach at the end of July?’ In the event, it was a cold and windy day, but that did not - continued on page12

Among many other interests, Peter lectures at the Defence Academy, the National Maritime Museum, and the National Museum for the Royal Navy. Next season’s lectures have now been finalised. A broad range to support all tastes, the new season will feature lectures on artist Walter Sickert, on medieval Easter celebrations, the Queen Mother and her art interests, the world of Grayson Perry..... and much more. The illustrated lectures last about an hour and are presented by national and international lecturers. Here’s a little background from local lady, Su Stedman, about the Gainsborough Club and FADOS.

Su in Felixstowe

Having spent a large proportion of my life teaching in London several circumstances combined to bring me to Felixstowe, the principal one being that my grandchildren were all here and my sons seemed to spend most of their time wandering round the world. So in 2001 I arrived.

As I have spent most of my conscious life being involved in theatre, including three years at drama school, my first action was to go to the library where they obligingly gave me a list of local companies. Not being particularly interested in musicals or pantomimes FADOS was the only group who regularly mounted plays and I lost no time in joining. The composition of the group has undergone many changes, members come and go but the core group are energetic, friendly and talented and welcome everyone interested in becoming involved in their activities. There are many other groups in the vicinity now, but they all started with FADOS. We have performed every kind of dramatic production from farce to modern classics,

please mention The Felixstowe

sketch programmes to Shakespeare on the Prom, thrillers, comedies... the list goes on and on.

When I first joined all performances had to be mounted at outside venues, but since a lot of hard work obtained a lottery grant several years ago we prefer to do in house productions at FADOS HOUSE behind the Basics shop in Walton, where everyone enjoys the intimate and relaxed atmosphere.

However, like everything in life, a spin off effect soon drew me into other activities, one of which was the Townswomen’s Guild which I was introduced to by one on the friends I made at FADOS. Circumstances I needn’t go into brought about the resignation of the group from the Townswomen’s Guild Federation and we became the Gainsborough Club. On the first Tuesday of every month we meet at the St Felix Hall in Gainsborough Road when we either have a guest speaker, an in house entertainment or an outing, plus we hold a garden party every July to raise funds for a different charity every year. The entertainment is provided by the Drama Group, is usually home grown and is a lot of fun to do as we have dispensed with the chore of learning lines! As well as rehearsing the Drama group meet once a month to socialise, plan or go as a group to the theatre. But it doesn’t stop there. There is also a Creative Leisure group who meet at OFCA every Wednesday afternoon where we learn new skills, share ideas or just do our own thing, And drink tea – all of this, of course, takes place in total silence !! No comment!! We used to go to Belstead House for a three day craft fest, but when that venue had to close we transferred to the Cameo Hotel at Copdock. where we will be for three days and two nights this month (August) Then I found I had some spare time time, so I joined the band of volunteers who help to run the SENSE charity shop in Hamilton Road. While I was in London I volunteered for Oxfam, and spent some time with them in Felixstowe, but their change of direction didn’t suit my lack of certain skills. May I heartily recommend that if you have any spare time at all that you do the same. Working at SENSE has made me many friends plus the satisfaction of knowing that your help makes life better for so many people who are worse off than you. All charity shops welcome volunteers and there are plenty to choose from!!

And in order to keep my hand in with school kids I invigilate for public exams at the Academy. I was very fortunate to be teaching at a time when bureaucracy hadn’t gone mad and we were permitted to put the kids at top of the agenda, not coming a poor second to finance, recordkeeping and results. I shall get off my bandwagon, but when did we start giving birth to gingerbread men?

Lastly but not ‘leastly’ there are the Felixstowe Afternoon Playreaders. We meet alternate Tuesday afternoons at each others houses, read a play and like everything else I do chat and socialise. There is so much to do in this town, there is really no need to be bored or lonely. The one place you should be able to find out about all the activities here is the publication you are reading right now – but the library is a good place too. Su Stedman

Local Lad

13 Random ramblings by the lovely Dean Wales...

It’s Life Gym but Not as We Know it... If you frequent a gym you’ll understand that it’s one of those places in life where you keep your head down and just ‘do your thang.’ Now ordinarily that’s exactly how I conduct myself.

You see, when I became mindful of the several layers of lard I’d managed to fashion around my mid-drift after landing a desk-based job, I forced myself to don the Lycra and pay a daily visit to the Palace of Sweat.

Like every other day when I’ve dragged my carcass over to the commercial chamber of horrors (believe me, I’m convinced Amnesty International would outlaw some of the apparatus in the gym I attend) where I attempt to get fit, I strolled in a couple of weeks ago, dropped off my bag and clambered upon a treadmill. It was only when I clocked in the mirror opposite that everyone was staring at me, that I realised I was, earphones in situ, singing out loud to a timeworn Demis Roussos track that had inexplicably found its way onto my playlist...I never put it on there you understand…who do you think I am? Although I must say Demis did have exceptional taste in kaftans. Having my attention brusquely drawn to other members of the gym and in an attempt to shake off the sheer mortification I was suffering, I decided to split with convention and observe my fellow cardio addicts.

Now besides the ubiquitous lad ferociously breaking wind whilst endeavouring a record attempt at excruciating burpies, or the muscle monkey who promenades the floor agitating his protein shake mixer only for the lid to fly off and propelling chocolate flavoured gloop everywhere, there was further peculiarity to be had.

There’s the lingo for a start. One guy announced he was going home to ‘stretch his hammies’, horrified by the image of a couple of Russian Dwarves on a rack, I realised, thankfully in time, he was referring to his hamstrings. Then there was the formidable hulk of a man who in the wake of each heavy set, sprayed the air with Charlie by Revlon….er, hello!!

But there was one occurrence, which to this day remains a mystery. After my perspiration-fest, I hit the changing rooms to shower off. Whilst changing I could hear a lad in one cubicle, showering and singing, but at the end of every line of lyrical prose there was an almighty ‘ouch’! Should I be curious? Anyway I’m off to lift another 4Kg…..45Kg, I meant 45Kg!!

Local People A few weeks ago we (editor and family, including two excited nephews) popped over to the Martello Tower by Martello Park. Keen to know what happens there, we meet two very interesting volunteers…

Alan Peck and John Bulbeck from Felixstowe’s National Coastwatch

Stairwell up to the watchtower... Alan

John

Just one of the beautiful interiors of the tower...

We just had to get this one in Alan and John with four Birdys!

The National Coastwatch Institution (NCI) is an entirely voluntary organisation keeping a visual watch along UK shores. The purpose is to assist in the protection and preservation of life at sea and around the UK coastline. With fifty NCI stations operational and manned by over two thousand volunteers keeping watch around the British Isles, no high tech or sophisticated system is diligent enough to spot a distress flare, an overturned boat, a fisherman or a wind surfer in trouble. So the NCI watchkeepers provide the eyes and ears along the coast. Senior Watchkeeper, Alan Peck and retired RAF veteran John Bulbeck are the two gents we met who kindly toured us through the tower, showed us the amazing equipment and maps and also let two excited boys do a little watchkeeping of their own.

Alan is an ex HMS Ganges boy who spent nine years in the Royal Navy as a Hydrographic Surveyor. He then spent some thirty years in the computer industry in technical and then management positions. Upon moving to Ipswich he heard about Coastwatch and found it the ideal way to reestablish a connection with the sea. John Bulbeck served twenty years as an electrical fitter in the RAF and relocated to Ipswich in 1982. Missing the comradeship of service life he joined the Royal Naval Auxiliary Service in Felixstowe until it was disbanded in 1994. He then became a member of Coastwatch and is now an Assistant Watchkeeper.

Monitoring radio channels and providing a listening watch in poor visibility are just a few of the jobs these lads do - they are also trained to deal with emergencies, which demand a variety of skills and experience. Alan says, “It is very important at Coastwatch that we work effectively with the other emergency services. As an

Please mention

example, one day last year I was on watch in our lookout tower when I saw somebody fall out of a kayak. Using our high powered binoculars we plotted his position and looked at how the tidal stream was likely to move him. We could see that he was unable to get back in and he was attempting to swim to the shore and tow his kayak behind him. It became apparent that he was getting very tired and was making no progress.

With the tide about to turn I knew we had to take action. I called the Coastguard and they in turn tasked Harwich lifeboat, who duly picked up the man and took him and his kayak to shore. They were met by the Felixstowe Coastguard mobile patrol unit who checked the man over, gave him a hot drink and took him back to his vehicle. If he had not been spotted then he would have been carried out to sea. Many of our watches are incident free but when something like this happens it makes us realise that the service is a worthwhile contribution to the safety of all users of the sea in the Felixstowe area.”

With nearly 220,000 hours of organised coastal surveillance in 2013 alone, all at no cost to the public, the NCO relies heavily on local support. You can show your support by donating online to: http://www.charitychoice.co.uk/nci/

Talk Like a Pirate Day

Saturday 19th & Sunday 20th September Ahoy there me hearties! A weekend of pirate-related activities and fun at Landguard Fort. Every year on September 19th is ‘International Talk like a Pirate Day.’ Come and meet a motley band of pirates, smugglers, cutthroats and wenches, having made landfall at Felixstowe to carouse and celebrate their success on the high seas. Learn to talk like a pirate, sea shanties, sword fighting, net making, games and treasure trail.

Captain unJolly Roger

For most of the year Landguard Fort is a place of serious historical interest. We try and make it enjoyable to visitors , but as re-enactors as well as volunteers of the Landguard Trust, we pride ourselves on attention to detail and accuracy. HOWEVER; International Talk Like A Pirate Day is on the horizon and we and our re-enacting friends like to let our hair down and go a little “Hollywood”.

For two days this year we will set up the Peninsular Pyrates Stockade at the Fort and welcome all our visitors (usual admission fees apply) to come prepared to take part in, or just to watch, various piratical activities which may be taking place. Please wear appropriate dress if you wish and

help look for treasure, choose a pirate name and learn some pirate skills. There is still room for a few more additions to the pirate band – no pay, but humble rations. We hope to maintain a standing crew for future events if this year’s event is successful. The timing of TLAPD should be fortuitous, being a rekindling of the holiday mood after the sudden shock of a school year’s beginning. David Button Funeral Directors

It’s been a good start here as you know, three funerals in within a month of opening is far better than I had hoped. I have been slowly contacting all the care/nursing homes in Felixstowe and Ipswich area. I have been to a couple of Rotary meetings and they have another one tomorrow morning at the Viewing Café and will be meeting for breakfast. I will be there! We are transparent in our pricing structure and believe families should know what it’s going to cost before they step through the door of the funeral home. We have recently become members of The National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD) which meant our funeral home was

inspected as was our administration and procedures. They do carry out spot inspections and we abide by a code of conduct that we feel gives families peace of mind when they need to use our services. Reviewing the latest and greatest of Felixstowe, here’s our Mystery Shopper to bring you her take on the best of our town...

The Alex Brasserie

We went out for our anniversary! “Hang on, didn’t they just have an anniversary?” Yes, we did, but that was our fourth anniversary and now we’ve celebrated our third anniversary. Not unlike the Queen who has an actual birthday and an official birthday, we have an anniversary for the registry wedding and an anniversary for the blessing. This means double the fun for me and double the torture for my dear husband, trying to figure out if he needs to get a card, a present or just prance around in his birthday suit with a rose between his teeth. In fact, the dear man booked a table at The Alex all by himself and actually offered to walk from Walton to the seafront! As far as he’s concerned, ‘w*lk’ is a four-letter word beginning in W and ending in K with sore feet in the middle. To me it was heaven and meant we could walk and chat and be all romantic! We had an early meal on a midweek evening at The Alex. He was a little perturbed that I knew exactly what I wanted for pudding before I ordered my main course (what he doesn’t know is that I actually knew what I wanted for pudding when I looked up the menu online during my lunch hour!). After dallying with the idea of a steak, we both settled on the hot seafood platter, with cod and plaice goujons in a light batter, prawns, calamari and whitebait. It had just the right amount of ‘frites’ (that’s chips to you and me). The

meal was lovely; light and filling at the same time. For pudding Himself had the rhubarb and apple crumble with custard and I had the long-anticipated Pimms jelly with strawberry and mint ice cream. The crumble was really lovely apparently, but I wouldn’t have attempted it at 22 degrees outside. My jelly was a revelation, and the ice cream had a unique flavour, but I think the ice cream would have been a little more refreshing as a sorbet.

As we trundled home sated, but not Too full and very happy, my dear husband of three years (or four years) stated that it was the best fish meal he had eaten in thirty years; high praise indeed! The Alex 123 Undercliff Road West, Felixstowe, IP11 2AF 01394 282958 www.alexcafebar.co.uk

Health Tip Like us, we’re sure many of you threw out any form of health/fitness habits you had over the summer holidays. Here’s Dawn Quantrill from Glow with a tip or two to help you get back into the groove...

Back to School – Back to You!

So the summer holidays are nearly over and while it was great to spend time with the kids, with family and friends, did you find your personal routine went out of the window? With everything else going on, did you stop going to your regular exercise classes? Did you find you were grabbing food on the go, or spending time eating out and enjoying far too many summer treats? Well as the holidays come to an end, maybe it’s time to start thinking about you again. When it comes to our own health and fitness, how often have we found ourselves saying “I don’t have time” but sometimes it’s not about having time, it’s about making time! So why not take 10 minutes to plan your week – plan what you’re going to eat and plan your exercise schedule. And to get you started here are a few of my top tips: • Write yourself a menu planner for the week, then write your shopping list.

• If you’re busy mid-week, why not make up a few meals over the weekend and store them in the fridge or freezer ready for when you walk through the door.

• Plan your exercise schedule for the week. If you have a busy life and that seems an impossible luxury then why not start with a 15/20 minute work out every morning (most of us can find 15 mins in our day). Choose something which you enjoy and you are much more likely to continue with it.

• For maximum benefit why not incorporate a bit of interval training into your schedule (mixing high and low intensity). If you’re new to exercise why not start with something simple like a brisk walk for a few minutes, break into a run or jog for a minute, back to walking and repeat. Each time you go out, aim to increase your distance - increasing the amount of time you run and reducing the time you spend walking. A great way to increase your fitness and you can build up gradually. Just make sure you allow a couple of minutes to warm up before you start and to cool down and stretch when you finish.

Start looking after yourself and everything else will fall into place. So with the school uniform now sorted, the new school bags now packed as the kids look forward to a new term, you can look forward to a healthier and happier you. Dawn Quantrill Glow, East Suffolk

Local Charity & Their News

BASIC Life Charity

From the initial idea in 1997, through our acceptance as a registered Charitable Trust in 2000, Felixstowe based BASIC, an independant Charitable Trust, has been able to assist many groups, organisations and individuals with financial, practical and general support. We are a ‘people’ charity and believe our mission is to support those in need and to provide assistance for those who are otherwise prevented from realising their own charitable goals. We were delighted to receive an endorsement from X Factor winner Sam Bailey recently. Sam is due to perform for one night only in the West End on October 12th – we wish her well with the performance. Sam, won the tenth series of the show in 2013, by beating tens of thousands of applicants to the top spot.

It’s so nice to know that a celebrity, such as Sam, who has worked with such mega-stars as Beyonce and has been called ‘incredible’ by such as Gary Barlow and Simon Cowell, is supporting us. Sam’s support, along with others encourages us in our work and we’re so pleased that we are growing steadily and receiving endorsements from celebrities at home in Felixstowe and further afield.

Over the last month we have been able to assist Felixstowe Sea Cadets, Felixstowe Opportunity Group and many local individuals and families.

During this month we’re looking forward to a 1980’s disco at The Royal British Legion with live music from ‘This Disguise’ at 7pm on Saturday 26th, tickets are just £5 and a free

buffet is included. All proceeds are to BASIC! Call 07925 121109 for tickets.

So far it’s been a great summer and we feel so honoured to be part of such a caring community with so much going on and so many people who are willing to help others. In August we enjoyed another of our ‘half-price’ days which was a great success with lots of people getting real bargains. We’ll be having another one soon!

Finally a note from our Felixstowe shop – a couple purchased a two seater settee early this year and took the cushions but not the sofa! We’re still holding it but would love to know if they are taking the sofa or not. If it’s you please let us know! Felixstowe shop: 17 Hamilton Road, Flx 01394 272618 www.basic.org.uk
