Director’s Note Today’s press is littered with examples of how stories are spun and manipulated for greatest effect and shock value; often it feels with no thought to the consequences for the people involved. This is a fictitious story of a young woman written in 1922. During rehearsals we soon realised that the subject matter is as important and the situation is as recognisable today as when it was written, almost one hundred years ago. It has been wonderful to be back in a rehearsal room and have the opportunity to explore such an
extraordinary and, at times, very funny play. We have felt safe and Covid secure and all possible safety precautions have been taken. We are living through unprecedented times. I could not be more pleased and proud to be working with such a committed, hard working, positive team of people both on and off camera, who have moved mountains to deliver this production in its new and exciting form to you. Suzy Catliff Suzy works as a casting director, theatre director and lecturer. Casting projects includes BBC1’s Casualty and Silent Witness. Films include Stormbreaker and A Bunch of Amateurs. Suzy is UK Casting Associate for Shaftesbury Films, Toronto where her work has included Departure – a major six part TV series, all series of Murdoch Mysteries and Frankie Drake Mysteries. She is co-author of
The Casting Handbook published by Taylor Routledge. She has adapted various novels for stage including No Name by Wilkie Collins. She is co-writer of The Casting Handbook, published by Routledge.
