e are delighted to present to you more highlights for your jazz gig diary including great celebratory Christmas nights out and some inspiring listening to welcome in the New Year of 2019. Surely one of the best Christmas themed jazz gigs in the UK this year is Alan Barnes’s Christmas Carol with Duke Ellington’s Nutcracker in pre-show support - and look out for the all too rare appearance of Mike Williams with his hand-picked rhythm section at the end of January.

A Jazz Christmas Carol will take you through the characters and scenes of the Dickens classic, with scenes from the original Dickens story read aloud and then brought to life by eight virtuoso musicians – a switch from hilarity to pathos that would have done credit to Dickens himself! A different musician portrays each character in this festive celebration of literature and jazz. Like the classic story itself, this night has something for everyone this Christmas, whether you love Dickens, music, literature, or just Christmas! With Bruce Adams, Robert Fowler, Mark Nightingale, Karen Sharp, David Newton, Simon Thorpe and Clark Tracey.
This is a mini festival of new student record labels, showcasing first steps in entrepreneurship and some newly signed artists for “Jazz in Birmingham”.
