T
Paul Dunmall
his latest schedule takes you to the end of our spring term and has a fantastic array of top international stella artists alongside high level senior student work. You’ll also see some exciting programming for the Monday Night Big Band nights, including Mike Gibbs directing the Jazz Orchestra, Ellington Orchestra playing Afro Bossa and Birmingham Jazz Orchestra playing the music of contemporary Big Band composer Tom Haines. We are delighted that the Paul Dunmall series is going from strength to strength and is reaching out to new audiences for us. New audiences will doubtless be arriving also for the festival known as Punkt, courtesy of our PhD student and significant bass player on the Birmingham scene, Chris Mapp, who is pulling the whole project together for us. Michael Janisch of Whirlwind Records is bringing us Joel Harrison and Dave Binnie as well as UK trumpet player Andre Canniere and as we race to a close for the Easter break we are capping it all with a special guest appearance from the legendary guitarist Peter Bernstein, brought to us by Mark Hodgson. If you have energy left after all that, come and join us for our end of term Gala Concert which features student highlights of the term closing with the customary “for dancers only” session with our very own Afro Cuban Jazz Orchestra
