As the Hollywood Baptist Cathedral continues to grow and expand, there is an interest in properly planning for the future. The current church building was completed in 1961 and the administrative building was acquired and renovated in the early 1970’s. The current building plans will be the first for the church in the last 30 years. Hopes are that the new building will provide not only a new sanctuary, but will include additional educational facilities and and space for a family life center.

During the month of March, during the traditional celebration of Passover in the Jewish tradition, several members of the Hollywood Baptist Cathedral shared with the Long Island Jewish community in the observation of their “Seder Meal” held at the Jewish Community Center in Hauppauge, NY. The ecumenical meal was an effort on the part of the Jewish community to reach out to the African American community in order to improve relations between the two communities. The event was held in the spirit of the relationship between Rabbi Abraham Herschel and the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Bishop Lewter was part of the delegation and represented both the Hollywood Baptist Cathedral and the Long Island Organizing Network (LION), of which he is the Central Long Island Convener.
