Head of School Message Staff & Faculty Fall Winter Spring Prefects Crease Student Engagement Residences Undergraduates Graduates Special Thanks In Memoriam
Message from our
HEad of School The past thirteen months have been nothing short of extraordinary. As the COVID-19 pandemic took hold of the world, we took hold of our school and our community. We wanted to ensure that we provided the best possible student experience, effective health and safety measures, proficient communication, and peace of mind to our families. A year later, I am pleased to say that we have succeeded. The BCS community rallied like never before. We are all stronger because of the challenges that we have faced. We are a better school because we bonded together and provided the support needed both personally and collectively. The secret to our success has been the people within our community: our dedicated faculty, staff, and administration, trusting parents, tireless volunteers, supportive alumni, and, of course, our wonderful students. This year we understand that heroes are made when ordinary people go to extraordinary lengths to help their community.
Our heroes wear hairnets and work boots. Their weapons are spray bottles and rags; hammers and nails; keyboards and cameras. Their bunkers are basements, and kitchens; libraries and dormitories; clinics and powerplants. Our heroes work tirelessly to keep us safe, sane, steady.

So this is it, Lynn. Your full-time teaching career at BCS comes to a close, as all good things tend to do. This ends our 23-year professional partnership that was so much more than that. I'd like you to know how important you have been in my development as a teacher, coach, and person. Your influence has had a profound effect on my practice and my pedagogical perspective. I have learned so much directly from you that it's practically impossible to articulate. And I'm certainly not alone in feeling this way; your impact on all of your students has been undeniable. Your dedication to BCS has also extended beyond the classroom. This included the tremendous passion and knowledge with which you led the swim team and gymnastics program for so many years. You have been a truly gifted math teacher and inspired everyone to think and care about their learning. And, in the end, that is the most important thing. This has been and will continue to be the standard that I set for myself. Thank you for setting that bar so high I wouldn't want it any other way. Happy Retirement!

WHERE IN THE WORLD ... ARE YOU LEARNING FROM?
interview with a remote learner Q: How has online school been going for you? A: Online school has been ok for me. It is kind of hard to keep up with because where I live, it is an hour behind. Q: What part of learning from home has been fun for you? A: I guess the part that makes it fun is that it's way more comfortable. But even still, I would rather be there in person. Q: During breaks, is there anything in particular that you do? A: I get to watch YouTube in a quiet environment. Q: What is most challenging about learning remotely? A: It is hard to communicate with the teachers, and it is also hard to ask questions and do assignments Q: What do you miss the most not being at school? A: My friends. Mylea Alexander - Chicago Form 7

Charlene Graham Security Officer Q: What’s your favourite thing about working in security? A: It would have to be seeing the kids and my coworkers prospering here. I’ve been here about four years and I enjoy seeing the same faces as well as getting to meet new kids every year from all over the world. I really think that it’s the people that make the workplace special. Q: What have been the new challenges with Covid? A: Definitely monitoring more of the people who just randomly come onto campus. I have to make sure that they respect and follow the rules. BCS is a private property, so we have to protect the kids, as well as the little BCS bubble (community). Q: Have there been any unexpected positives that have come out of Covid? A: I think its encouraged us to slow down and appreciate the small things in life and come together as a global community to get through this pandemic. Q: Any challenges? A: I'm a big lip-reader, when it comes to speaking English and French, and now that I can't do that I have to observe eye signals, which, I guess has helped me improve my communication skills (LOL).

Fall 13
in the beginning... quarantine - 2 week period of isolation BCS campus shut down in March of 2020. Staff worked tirelessly to ensure that every measure of safety was taken in order to keep the school safe until the students returned. When the decision was made to open the doors in September, the guidelines were strict, and we followed them carefully. No busloads of students arriving in droves, wheeling their luggage to their houses. Every step of our return was controlled and exercised with precision:
TRANSPORTATION OF STUDENTS TO BCS Airport transfer to BCS from YUL (Montreal-Trudeau International) The entire transportation operation will be conducted under the guidelines of public health authorities. Instructions will be given in advance to all students and families prior to arrival. BCS chaperones will wait at YUL, immediately outside the first exit door (door 26 in Zone D, next to the crosswalk).
BCS HEALTH AND SAFETY PROTOCOLS -
Instructions will be given by the chaperones, verbally and in writing, as students arrive. Students will respect a 2m physical distancing. Students will board the bus/car one at a time under the supervision of the BCS driver/chaperones. Prior to boarding, the chaperone will take each student's temperature, the students will disinfect their hands with sanitizer, and they will be given a mask. - The mask will be required to be worn by all students and staff for the duration of the transport operation. - The student will put their luggage onboard themselves when instructed by the driver/chaperones. - Students will be seated one per double seat. - Upon arrival at the quarantine facility, students will remain seated until asked to leave the vehicle individually, prior to being assigned their room. - The nurse/Student Life representative present at the quarantine facility will evaluate each student upon arrival. - Students showing symptoms will undergo further medical assessment.

NO HUGs NO HANDSHAKES
Everyone on campus tried to make the 2 weeks as enjoyable as possible. Andree Brodeur, our head nurse placed happy stones around campus to lift students' spirits. Our Admissions Team prepared "Treat" bags for all our isolated kids, and our Librarian extraordinaire, Mr. Crowther, conducted a regular book delivery to each residence to give them a chance to stay entertained. So many people went above and beyond Prefects, Food Services, Security, Houseparents and the Residential Teams... all heroes!

Virtual Terry Fox Run Although we did not have a BCS-hosted Lennoxville Terry Fox Run this September, we still managed to raise some funds for this worthy cause. We continue with other initiatives to fundraise for various organizations in the fight against cancer. It shows how much our community continues to care, and we should be proud of all that we continue to do. Here are a few facts we are proud to share: Terry Fox's dream of raising $1 per Canadian was realized on February 1st, 1981, as Canada's population hits 24.1 million and the Organization's fund-raising hits $24.17 million - Terry Fox passed away on June 28th, 1981 - September 13th, 1981 marks the first Terry Fox run, taking place in over 760 locations in Canada and around the world, where over 300 000 people participate and raise $3.5 million. A special note to this fact is that Lennoxville actually held a run before Terry Fox passed away and thus has organized one more run than all other places. - The first International Terry Fox Runs are held around the world in 1992. Participating countries were: Australia, Belgium, China, Czech Republic, England, Germany, Hungary, India, Japan, Jordan, Kuwait, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Philippines, Poland, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, USA, and Zimbabwe Now, the annual Terry Fox run attracts millions of participants in nearly 25 countries worldwide. Mr. Jeff Bray - Director of Athletics
Every year on September 30, people across Canada join together to remember and honour the victims of the residential school system.
Orientation Day Activities
After a two week quarantine - the school opened its doors for the rest of the student body. Hugging may have been a NO-NO, but that didn't dampen the spirits of our friends coming back together at last.
Orange Shirt Day
The BCS community has proudly participated in this important event since 2017, which has seen us donning our orange shirts and marching side by side with local school groups and members of our Lennoxville community in a spirit of reconciliation and hope. With the event going virtual this year, our community found other ways to commemorate this important day 'in-house.' Jurney, Chaimber, and Liam Condo presented about the significance of this event in chapel, sharing its origins: Orange Shirt Day commemorates the experience of Phyllis Webstad who had a new orange shirt, given to her by her grandmother, taken away from her on her first day in residential school at just six years old. In the classroom, Ms. Carey and Ms. Laramée engaged their students in discussion after reading through first-hand accounts of Indigenous Peoples on the Legacy of Hope Foundation website and reading the poem "300 Sleeps" by Jen Whiffin. Our librarian, Mr. Crowther, posted books and materials about Indigenous populations at the entrance of the Peter G. Holt Memorial Library. We are committed to continuing these types of global conversations about diversity, equity, and inclusion in our community all year round.

Take Me Outside Day Take Me Outside Day is a day in which all members of our community become explorers. Whether we take a walk in the woods, read a book next to a bonfire or simply enjoy the fresh October breeze; it is an opportunity to broadening our mind while taking advantage of our beautiful campus. This day teaches us that not all classrooms have four walls. We are lucky to be surrounded by people who care about a future in which playing, exploring, and learning are a part of our education. Although they demonstrate their dedication to us on the regular, their creativity shines on this particular day through the incredible activities they organize. All in all, we are undoubtedly blessed.
Over the past two weeks, 16 young scholars have been hard at work researching the development of one country of their choosing (from Kiribati to Kyrgyzstan), investigating specific factors affecting development, as well as pathways toward future development. Unsure of what is meant by development? As a class, we defined development in the following way: Development is defined as the gradual improvement of society, a person, or a concept. Development can be interpreted differently as it is neither good nor bad. It can range from the improvement of major aspects such as housing, health care, technology, education, finance, the justice system, human rights, etc.

Our annual campus cleanup took place after school, where each house cleaned around their respective houses, and the quad was cleaned by Ross students. This event is held every year in the fall, to help the Grounds Crew rake leaves and to pick up trash around campus. This is always a great opportunity to help the environment and our school.

Rememberance Day Service
NHL Superstar, Duncan Keith participated in a Zoom Conference with our Hockey Teams! Talk about meeting your Heroes!!
Zoom with Duncan Keith Holiday Spirit Why is Remembrance Day so important to BCS? An Interview with Mr. McCormick
Well, it is important because of the history BCS has with our cadet corps and, more broadly, the military. BCS has had a cadet corps since the 1860s, and that means that there has always been a strong connection between the school and the military. So when World War I happened in 1914, it was expected that the boys that were graduating from the school at the time and some teachers would serve in the war, serve the country, serve the British Empire, and represent the school and the cadet corps overseas. So that's the primary connection, but in terms of the actual service that BCS students gave, it's pretty remarkable. I'm sure you've heard at the Remembrance Day Ceremony some of the stories of the World War I and World War II veterans who went to BCS who were very well known for their heroic actions. But it's also very sad because BCS is such a small school which lost a number of kids, who had often just graduated - they did not return. A large amount of the class of 1915 was killed in the war, and that's, in large part, why we take Remembrance Day so seriously, because it had a huge impact on our community. The head of the Canadian military had attended BCS. He was an important soldier during World War I, and he became the head of the military in World War II. He held a very important position, and his name was Andrew McNaughton (for whom the House was named). There is also Peter Holt (for whom the Library is named) was a very good student at BCS, and when he graduated, he immediately went off to serve in World War II. He was a fighter pilot, and after a bunch of successful missions in Northern Europe, he was shot down and killed. His family has been very involved with preserving his legacy at BCS. So you see, BCS's connection with Armistice Day is linked to the number of students, not much older than you are now, who were killed. The BCS Service is held to honour and remember them. It also reminds us that war is horrible. Even 100 years after World War I, the sacrifices made by those students still affect us. It's also worth remembering that, although there weren't girls at BCS during the wars, a few of the graduates of KIng's Hall (the girls' school that merged with BCS in the 1970s) served as nurses on the front lines or other jobs within the military. We sometimes overlook their contributions, but they are definitely just as heroic.

The Clock Struck one
After over a year of hard work and dedication, The BCS Players' Club is proud to present their production of 'The Clock Struck One' by Craig Sodaro to the community. Originally intended for a live audience in the R. Lewis Evans Memorial Theatre, our cast members and production team did a full pivot, turning the play into a film production to follow health and safety protocols. Our students enjoyed learning about film acting versus the usual theatre-style acting, and they particularly liked the opportunity of having multiple takes to perfect a scene. It also gave Form VII student, Vivienne, the opportunity to hone her filming and editing skills as she edited the production for a project for her Film Studies course. Cast members had to work on their projection, enunciation, and movement to make sure the play translated well on camera. "It's more like film acting versus theatre acting," Liam (Nigel Grimm) expressed. "You have to be mindful of your body movements. They aren't as exaggerated." The production team also worked hard to adapt the performance to follow the current safety regulations. The difference was the social distancing and no touching. "There are a lot of couples in the play and we had to find new and creative ways to show affection," Hannah (Connie Girard) shared. It was also written into Phoebe's character (Essie Mason) to disinfect and encourage hand sanitization.

Caroline Lacombe & Kim Barrette Supply Shop Q: What was the biggest change to the role of the Supply Shop this year? A: For us, the most important thing was to ask the students what they needed. Seeing that they weren't allowed to leave campus to shop, we made sure we provided more of the things they would normally get themselves. We got a lot of snacks! Q: So you tried to provide a "Corner Store" approach? A: Exactly. We had candy, chocolate, drinks - they told us what they wanted, and we got it. Q: Do you feel that the students learned to see this place differently? A: We definitely hope so. We want the students to feel like this place belongs to them. We have our regulars, who stop in to buy some food and chit chat. Others come to see what we've got, and end up hanging out. Q: What about the mailroom? Has that changed this year? A: In terms of volume - not really, but we've noticed that the kids will stick around to open their packages and share their excitement with us. We love being a part of those interactions - it's why we do what we do.
Q: What would you say has been the biggest challenge for students this year?
Marie-Noel Gattusso Counsellor
A: I'd say the Social Isolation - not being able to go home when they want to. Not being able to be in close proximity with any of their friends - no hugging, no contact - it's contrary to the way that they are used to. Q: How did you try to make things easier for them?
A: I focused on the things we can control. We have no control over the virus, the laws or any of that, but we do have control over our attitude, our reactions to these changes and our patience. I felt it was important to show them the ways in which they CAN engage and learning to live with the things that they can't control. Q: What is the most important goal that you've achieved this year? A: There are a lot of things that I feel went smoother than anticipated, Quarantine for example. But I think that most students struggled this year, but ultimately, they knew that they could ask for help, and they did. When they felt isolated, stressed, frustrated - they talked to an adult about it, Q: What would you hope our community would take away from this year? A: That we survived it. We learned a lot about ourselves and others, and we now have a bunch of new tools in our toolbox, which can serve us in the future.

FINN the elf
Head Shaving Fundraiser Fred, Isaak, and Matys closed out their November fundraiser having raised an impressive $5,500 for the Quebec Cancer Foundation.
Q: What made Mr Lafrance take Finn the Elf off the shelf?
This afternoon Mr. Courschene, Mr. St-Amant, Mr. Hood, and Gabe all joined Frédérick and Isaak in shaving their heads for the cause..
A: I'm someone who really likes traditions, and so when I found out that Mr. Lewis, a past headmaster here, hid Finn the Elf several years ago, I thought that it could be fun. Students also said that they really enjoyed it, so I thought, why don't we bring that back, and ontinue what seemed to be a fun tradition during the holidays. Q: Do you find that hiding the elf has been difficult? A: It's fun!

Ugly holiday Sweater Day
For the second year in a row, Mme. Lanoue made and sold cookies to raise money for the Cornerstone Foodbank. Last year, she baked goodies and sold them in the staffroom, raising just over $400. This year in order to comply with safety protocols, she prepped and packed the frozen cookie dough. All in all, Mme. Lanoue sold 63 dozen cookies! Her initial goal was to match last year's donation of $400, but her successful campaign ended up raising $900.
Cookies for a cause
What started as a funny fashion statement from a few of our more mature teachers has now become a yearly tradition at the school. This year, our prefects upped the ante by introducing a prize for the best sweater amongst the students and staff. The most gaudily festooned participant received a $30 gift card to Uber Eats.
Making Ornaments & Snow Globes Ms. Jones gave her Form V English Language Arts students a festive assignment for their last class of the year. The students were tasked with writing extended metaphor poems. "To create the extended metaphor, they were instructed to compare their life to an inanimate object or event," "The snow globes were meant to be a fun way to create their symbolic object or link to an event." - Ms. Jones What a wonderful assignment to get our students into the holiday spirit!

Welcome to Carnival! Instead of our classic threeday event, this year, we rolled out a three-week schedule of fun activities. "We wanted to keep our traditional Carnival activities alive with some adjustments for the health and safety of our community," our Assistant Director of Student Life, Julie Lowry, explained. "Our goal was to find the perfect balance between athletics, arts and creativity, and house bonding. After all, Carnival is the biggest house bonding event of the year!" Over a three-week period, the BCS universe participated in outdoor, in-house, and virtual activities culminating in one big day of Carnival fun and house spirit on February 11. Every Thursday, leading up to February 11, was a dress-down day for students to show off their house colours to ramp up the inter-house competition and house bonding.

Lets Talk Day Every year, Bell supports mental health initiatives by raising funds through their Bell Let's Talk campaign. On this day, millions of people across Canada and around send messages of support and encouragement for those struggling with mental health, share their own stories, and offer ideas about how we can improve everyone's mental well-being. This year, the BCS universe filled Talk Bubbles' with what they are doing to practise self-care and spread kindness during this time. We took inspiration from the theme for this year's campaign, "When it comes to mental health, now more than ever, every action counts." Throughout the week, we shared resources and information on practising self-care, asking for help, recognizing signs of stress, and reaching out to loved ones. Our work to improve mental health on Moulton Hill and beyond is only just beginning. So let's keep the conversation going. Today and every day, let's talk!

Thyannda Mack, expert on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and founder of Inclusive Resolutions LLC, conducted a series of workshops for staff, faculty, and students. Workshops included topics like: 'Exploring Your Identity.' 'Our Identities and Our Interactions' and 'Navigating Differences.' Students listened intently throughout the session and had a chance to hold self-reflection discussions with a partner for the break-out activities. The workshops had such an impact that BCS started its very owen DEI Committee!

Black History Month
Tafara, Anouk, and Metta presented to their peers on Black History Month. They taught us about the importance of celebrating the legacy and accomplishments of influential Black leaders in history and in today's society. They also shared ways that we can support Black-owned businesses and creators.
On the last Wednesday in February each year, students are encouraged to sport a pink shirt to stand up against bullying. This national campaign started in 2007 when two students from a small-town high school in Nova Scotia stood up for a classmate who was being bullied for wearing a pink shirt. The next day, the students organized a protest against bullying, inviting their classmates to wear pink shirts to show support for the student. This movement created a wave of support that is now popular in schools all over the world, and it showed how one small act of kindness can make an enormous impact.
Making Cards For Seniors
Form II-V students in Gillard and Glass House made beautiful spring cards as part of their community service activity. These cards go to local senior homes as well as seniors from the Meals on Wheels program.
This small act of kindness is a great initiative to have students stay involved with their community. Thank you to Ms. Susan Cook, who organizes this activity a few times a year for our local seniors.

Q: What was most important to you in your role as Houseparent, Travel Coordinator and Assistant Head of Student Life?
JulieStudent Lowry Life
A: Making sure that everyone understood what we were doing, and that it was for the good of everybody. Q: Do you feel that you succeeded? A: I do. I think that everyone rose to the challenge and for the most part, we did exceptionally well with the hand that we were dealt. Q: What accomplishment would you say you were most proud of this year. A: I think it would be Carnival. It was very different, but just the fact that we were able to give the students some sort of Carnival, is something that I'm really happy about. I think it shows that we can adapt to whatever situation we're in - and that's something to be proud of.

Mr. Courchesne's Global Politics class and Mr. McCormick's World Issues class learned about international organizations and political systems all year (including issues related to human rights, development, peace, and conflict.) in preparation for the Quebec Model United Nations (QMUN). The theme of the conference this year was: protecting the human rights of climate migrants and promoting the human rights of Indigenous Peoples. The conference was held virtually along with students from different CEGEPs and undergraduate university programs from across Quebec. Our students represented Spain, Peru, Côte d'Ivoire, United Arab Emirates, and Poland, amongst others.
Chess tournament
The Chess Club has grown this year and the tournament was the perfect opportunity for students to showcase their skills and engage in competition. "We hope to host more tournaments in the future as our club grows in popularity and skill." - Joe Wong

We are so proud of our community for donating nine boxes of bedding and fundraising close to $600 for our local animal shelter, Pet Connection Lennoxville. Mr. Crowther, along with his advisees Amos, Elliott, Iwo, and Sky J. did a tremendous job organizing the fundraiser.
Junior and senior students presented their speeches for a chance to represent BCS at the Annual Quebec Association of Independent Schools (QAIS) Public Speaking Competition.
This year, BCS initiated the House Sweet Home campaign, a fundraiser to renovate our student houses. The mission was to reach 500 donors and raise $1 million to improve each house beginning this summer. In order to accomplish these goals, we developed a fun and creative way to involve our current students like never before.
Smith Food truck
Each week, a new challenge was announced, with a prize that directly benefits the students of the winning house. This week's challenge is all about participation, so the first house to reach 20 donors was crowned the winner of the first House Sweet Home Weekly Challenge. The winning house was Smith House, and they were the envy of all on campus, with a special food truck parked in front and serving up a full meal courtesy of Faim Renard.

Comic Con Our Fifth annual Comic-Con inspired some pretty fabulous costumes! This year, the day included special chapel performances, trivia competitions, a costume contest and more! Students and staff alike showed off their animated personalities!

International Bazar
The Round Square Committee and dining hall team upped the ante for our second International Bazaar by offering two additional dishes. From Trinidadian curried chicken to Ukrainian kanapky sandwiches, our community's taste buds took a trip around the world. The Japanese sushi, Brazilian paode queijo, and Canadian crème brûlée au chocolat were particular crowd favourite
Thank you to the Round Square Committee and Mrs. Shelley Gardner-Bray for organizing the event, and a HUGE thank you to our fantastic dining hall team for offering up such scrumptious spreads.
As winners of another House Sweet Home challenge, the girls at Gillard were treated to a Deluxe Pizza Party
Tech Week
Throughout Tech Week, many students collaborated to further their learning, as well as to help each other. This was especially apparent during the Repair Café when students would jump in to help others that were stuck, as well as volunteering to fix devices for students who didn't have the experience required to do it themselves.
Form VII Art Exhibit
LGBTQ+ Presentation
Pride Month is celebrated every June to honour the Stonewall Uprising in 1969. The riots against the discrimination of gay community were heard worldwide, which subsequently became a historic movement for the LGBTQ+ community and a celebration of inclusion and queer identity. This year, Marie-Noëlle and Bea presented on the history, broke down a glossary of words that can be used to label gender and sexual identities, and spoke on different ways of being an ally. "Educate yourself, listen, validate, and respect others." Marie-Noëlle and Bea also reminded students that they can always come to talk to them about anything and that "[THEY] ARE VALID."

BBQ The Advancement Team organized a House Sweet Home Mid-Campaign celebration for our community to enjoy! Each house enjoyed a BBQ in their backyard with all the accompaniments, including mouth-watering steaks, chicken, sides, cookies, and soda. The cherry on top was the surprise Beaver Tails food truck parked in front of School House.

158th Annual Cadet Review This year, we held a modified version of our Annual Review. This is usually a celebrated public event, welcoming students' entire families, retired staff and faculty, BCS Alumni and people who love a good show. This year, it was closed to the public and yet no less impressive. Measures were taken to respect all safety protocols, and in the end - the review was a success. A HUGE congratulations to the BCS No. 2 Cadet Corps - you deserve it!

Round square Walk At the end of every school year, we host various Round Square events to shine a light on our Round Square IDEALS (an acronym for Internationalism, Democracy, Environment, Adventure, Leadership and Service). The Round Square objective is to empower youth to become committed, responsible global citizens through active involvement. BCS has been affiliated with Round Square for over 25 years, and every student at BCS is a Round Square member.
Our Inter-House Track & Field competition was a blast! This year we had four events, including the 100m sprint, softball/cricket ball throw, long jump, and discus. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make the event 'run' smoothly.

Graduation, like all other major school events, was closed to the public this year. Luckily, we have a team of Tech geniuses and Communication Masters to find a way to show us to the world. Our campus stayed in its bubble and live-streamed the entire ceremony for folks watching from home.
Form VI Graduation
Form VIi Graduation
After the official ceremony, each graduating class was invited to a luncheon in our beautiful Quad. The Grad Committee work hard to create an event that respected COVID rules and still gave the graduating classes a way in which to celebrate together. Under the leadership of Ms. Julie Lowry, and the help of our tireless Food Services, Grounds, and Communications Teams, these young graduates had an absolutely lovely day!

Block Party
How do we end the year in order to be sure that everyone has a chance to play together, eat together and say their goodbyes?
Our prefects
With a campus-wide party, of course! Every residence contributed a "fun stop": Whether you were in the mood to play a friendly game of volleyball or eat to your heart's content... you were sure to find what you wanted along the path!

Each year, a small group of students in Form VII are elected Prefects. They help run the school by contributing ideas, organizing activities and helping out in many different ways. This year, these school leaders worked harder than ever to provide their peers
yewon chang A.K.A. yeman The most organized of team, she ensures that each member is always aware of what the plan is, and pushes the follow-through. There is no limit to the work she can dictate and no deadline that she will not enforce. She keeps them on track.
Secret weapon: can hide her sweetness behind a mask of fierce contempt
Anouk Ganga A.K.A. cap nouk nouk A most reliable member of the Team, she represents the Prefect crew as the singular Band Member among them, wielding her instrument with strength and precision.
Secret weapon: A perpetual smile that blinds the ill tempered
aidan feddema a .K.A. ginger blueberry His superior intelligence is matched only by the confidence he projects because of it. He is the mastermind of the group, able to play to the strong personality with his Ginger spark; or to the sweet an passive with his passive Blueberry.
Secret weapon: Highly potent bottled perfection
Matys Brassard
A.K.A. Twin 2
In one undeniable act of bravery, he shaved his head, allowing the entire BCS Universe to tell him apart from his older twin - leaving him vulnerable to individuality, independance and frosted scalp.
Secret weapon: The crutches of perpetual pit pain 64
with as much normalcy as possible. Thanks to their tireless efforts, we had a lot of fun amongst the restriction that covd imposed. Their spirit was a force amidst the daily grind. They were true leaders, and dare we say... our heroes.
isaak brassard A.K.A. Twin 1 There is no limit to what powers he has gained thanks to his 120 second head start from the much younger Twin 2. This added life experience makes him the ideal candidate to look to when it comes to the Prefects' public image,
Secret weapon: The ability to make others more attractive by association
lisa eichmuller A.K.A. lysa The Team's social coordinator, she enforces a strict and regular activities schedule to make sure their spirits remain high and that they are able to continue setting the example.
Secret weapon: can overcome fear of public speaking in a flash
Paul akinwunmi A.K.A. paul The quietest of the pack, he can be seen and not heard for days on end. His creative approach to Flag raising is unmatched by any on the Team, and beyond. He ups the coolness factor by his mere presence.
Secret weapon: he can run at light speed when tardiness is at hand
Dieu Anh (diana) Srisuk A.K.A. invisagirl Trapped in a faraway land. her role on the team was long distance. Having infected the entire student population with her micro waves of positivity, she was able to prolonged a sense of joy to those who thought of her.
Secret weapon: Able to shine from afar 65
kyleHockey HoodCoach Q: How do you think the Covid19 situation affected the hockey program? A: Its definitely made for some challenges. A lack of games is really detrimental to the program, but I would say that the team has taken the positives out of the situation. Weve been able to practice every day since the start of school, and our players have had a considerable amount of ice time. Q: What are the positives to come out of Covid? A: Well, weve had more practise time than any other year, and our players have really improved as a result. Theyve been able to be in school more, which has decreased their workload and helped them academically. Players are also able to be more involved with the school, which is an added benefit for them. Q: At the beginning of the year, when our area was an orange zone, were you able to have games against other schools? A: Yes, we were able to play against Mont St-Anne, Stanstead College, and Verbe Divin, and we were pretty successful against them, despite an altered format. A lot of players got more ice time in games they dont typically play, so I think it has really benefited everybody.

Ross Boys
During quarantine, all Ross members experienced remarkable changes; they had turned into superheroes. Alex and Emile had turned into the Wonder Twins. Alex Hendricks speedy legs turned him into the Flash. Caleb worked out so extensively he became the brave Captain America. Chaimber perfected his shot and is now Hawkeye. Christophe, with his natural charm, is now Ironman. Evan mastered every spell known in Dungeons and Dragons, which naturally led to his new title: Dr. Strange. Gabe discovered a passion for lightning and became Thor. J.S. has such a deep voice that he obviously became the Dark Knight (Batman). Kamil's deceiving silence allowed him to be a regular schoolboy by day, but SHAZAM! a superhero by night. Liam's long hair and love for fishing made him none other than the mighty Aquaman. Nathan's formidable personality attracted the Green Lantern ring. Noah's athleticism made him perfect for the role of good ol Spidey (Spiderman). Oscar's natural social ability to talk to everyone allowed him to break the fourth wall, just like Deadpool. Rodrigo's ability to adapt paved the way to his alter ego: Beast Boy. Sheldon's already small size made him perfect for the quantum world, making him Ant-Man. William's incredible raging during gaming sessions made him the perfect candidate for becoming the Incredible Hulk. This house of spectacular individuals is led by the incredibly charismatic, mesmerizing, noble Anthony who takes his rightful place as Superman. We are all unique in our abilities, but together we make up the greatest house to ever exist, a Superhouse.

our year:
The academic year of 2020-2021 will certainly be remembered in its’ own special way, but it did not stop Grier South from having an amazing year at BCS. It might have taken a little longer to get to know everyone due to virtual house meetings and the wearing of masks, but none of that can take away all the great times and experiences we had together… As we venture through the year, we can reflect on a fall that had some of our fellow housemates learning online while here at school we were able to be in class, face to face, and continue many of our normal events and the general BCS routine. The boys learned that in the mornings they would be reminded by Mr. Bray that he was “ready for med check when you are”, and that you needed to check in for supper with one of the South Teachers on Duty, be it co-Houseparent Mrs. Gardner-Bray, Mr. Key, Mr. Crowther, Mr. Manning, Kobie or Assistant Houseparent, Mr. McCormick, depending on the day of the week, not to mention so many other parts of daily life at BCS. We had afternoon sports, and even got in a few soccer games, hockey games and cross-country meets, where some of the South guys were able to participate on those teams, representing the school and becoming a BCS Bear for life. On those teams this included Edward, Gavin, Olivier, Sacha, Kevin, Khemmarin and Alex for soccer, Alistair for cross-country, and Elliott, Émile and Marc-Olivier for hockey. The boys participated in an annual fall clean-up, where everyone joined in to help our grounds crew make the surrounding area of South look a little nicer. As well, we were able to have the annual school cross-country run, where the South bantam boys rose to the challenge and swept first and second place in the individual category as well as winning the house plaque and banner! Émile also captured second place in the junior boy’s division! All our guys did an excellent job throughout the fall term in all areas of school life, despite so much being so new! Moving into the winter term, we saw continued success academically, with many boys consistently making the effort list, including one of our GPP students, Taile, getting all A`s from a distance! Most of the boys were able to get off campus for the Christmas holiday, but a few had to stay and spend the time here at Mitchell Family House, adding yet another small challenge for them. But everyone returned with positive feelings and attitudes and continued to do a great job across the board. Our winter carnival took on a slightly different look, but the boys from South were fully engaged, participating in all the outdoor sporting events, Iwo proved to be a “snow shoveling machine”, and the guys created a very, very impressive snow sculpture!! The carnival certainly helped keep spirits on the positive side and get us through the tough winter months. During this time, we welcomed a few new faces to South, Paul, and Leo, who brought more energy and new personalities to the house and school. Although no games were played, all the boys continued to participate in their winter sports, started to work a bit on drill in Cadets to start getting prepared for the spring review, and maintained solid academic results overall. Luis was chosen to take part in the Ondaatje adventure, Daniel got named “36.6” as he consistently had that morning body temperature, Amos and Eddie challenged themselves by doing two creases as often as they could, Alex sadly left us to become a day student, but then near the end of the term Arik Cai joined the school in person, and eventually made his way to South. Then the March break gave everyone a chance to re-charge their batteries in anticipation of our final term. Spring arrived, then Mother Nature through us a curve ball with some wintery days of snow, but eventually things settled, and everyone got outside regularly playing a host of different sports, continuing more Cadet practices, and generally enjoying the opportunities to be out on our fields and enjoying our beautiful campus. Effort ratings continued to be a highlight, with more students attaining all A’s and some of them finishing the year by making the effort list every time – quite an accomplishment!! The boys of Grier, both South and North, were the winners of the paint-ball excursion organized by the Alumni and Development office as part of the “House Sweet Home” competition, and other than an unfortunate twisted ankle, this was another excellent and fun event enjoyed by all! House BBQ’s, including one where the school was treated to Beaver Tails for dessert, and including the annual Grier South alumni BBQ, were a huge hit and were much appreciated by the guys. Other spring highlights were the Mini World Cup soccer event, the annual house track and field challenge where several our guys did extremely well in their events, and the final weekend school games night and dance. Everyone did an excellent job during the annual Cadet Inspection, helping BCS continue one of longest-standing traditions. Overall, there has been so many positive aspects to this year, and the boys of Grier South were a huge part of this and can be proud of their input and accomplishments. As this is being typed there remains a few days of classes and all the end-of-year awards ceremonies, including academics and athletics where there is sure to be some Grier South representation once again. A huge thank you to our adult leaders, and to the boys of South, the “boys of the red and blue”, who have all helped make one incredible team and 2020-2021 a huge success and one to be remembered fondly! Safe travels to all, best of luck to anyone not returning to BCS next fall and see you soon to all who will be back on campus in September.

Houseparent Williams Quarantine House
Q: You had the exceptional job of hosting kids who were asked to quarantine throughout the year. What did that entail?
Julie Lowry ...
A: It was pretty straight forward. They would stay in their rooms for the most part, in order to adhere to the recommended Safety measures directed by the government. We would bring them their meals. We were allowed to take them for walks outdoors - which was nice. We did our best to make it as caring and supportive and engaging as possible. Q: Did they have class online? A: Yes - they attended their classes virtually, which was actually good for them because it kept them busy for a part of the day. Q: What was the most challenging aspect of this for you? A: The challenge was definitely in going from a full-time Houseparent, not just supervising, but developing relationships with the students, to having minimal contact... although it is amazing how much of a connection you can make with a kid during a 20-minute walk! Q: What would you say was the most positive thing to come out of this year? A: I would say that it was how we kept our students and staff safe. We didn't have any positive cases - but even more-so we curbed so many colds and other nonCOVID related issues just by providing a space where anyone who demonstrated the slightest symptom could come and rest while they waited for their test results, which meant that whatever their ailment, they left feeling better,
Q: How was this year different for you?
Jennifer Monk
A: It's been exponentially different. We Director of always make an effort to communicate with Communications & Marketing parents regularly. Some of them don't have the opportunity to see their children until June. This year, with the added stress of the pandemic we knew that we wanted to do more to appease everyone's concerns. Q: How did you do that? A: In the past, we've done most of our communication through e-mails. This year we added more interactive methods like ZOOM calls with our Head of School and other Administrators who could address Parents' questions and concerns. The approach changed - for the better. Q; What are you most proud of this year? A: I think I feel proud when parents thank us. We do Zoom calls with Mr. Lafrance every Friday and make those recordings available to anyone who can't attend so they can ask their questions. We get so many THANK YOUs from parents. It makes me feel that we got it right. They're happy, and their kids are happy. Q: Is there anything that this year has made you grateful for? A: I think, this year has really forced us to "Not sweat the small stuff." We have so many important things to focus on - it makes you realize that the little things aren't where our time is best spent. Priorities!

We can be heroes IN LOVING MEMORY OF
mS. hEATHER rOTHNEY
September 16, 1958 - May 25, 2021 Beloved English Teacher, friend, mother, sister and Hero.
This year, the world has met the unfortunate fate of losing a very bright soul. Heather Rothney was a mentor, a cherished friend and a trusted colleague to so many of us, holding a special place in all our hearts. On a personal level, I must pay tribute to the fact that miss Rothney was one of my most respected teachers. Of my six years at Bishops College School, she taught me English for two of them, and coached me through the Sweet Readers program, one of my fonder memories of the school, for another two. I remember always being excited to be a part of her classroom and she is the main reason for much of my love for reading and writing. One of my favourite memories from her class would be when she introduced us to Steinbeck's novella: Of Mice and Men. Our class discussions on the book were always filled with humour and interesting thoughts, and it was through that experience from which I learnt how to think deeply and critically about literature. For that, I will be forever grateful. Her wisdom and guidance will continue to follow me throughout my life, has helped me grow as a young adult and has done the same for countless other students in her time as a teacher. A student simply could not ask for anymore. I need not ask the rest of the BCS community to know that no amount of writing could fathom how much we will all deeply miss Heather Rothney.
