MECHANIZED URBANISM
Course | ARC 502 _ Spring 2018 Instructor | Jason Carlow Team | Nermin Hegazy Area | Undefined Location | Sharjah, UAE Industrial areas 10 & 11 are characterized by clusters of production and housing facilities in combination with a scattered array of services and various social nodes. This proposal aims to develop a reconfigurable building prototype that combines all three aspects of production, housing and leisure, in a setting where they can co-exist and function in a vibrant network. The different components of the project can be reconfigured to create adaptive combinations of housing, production and amenities. The project challenges traditional housing types in the industrial area to co-exist with dynamic sites. Incorporating machinery like the gantry as an organizer of social space and provider of services, makes it a socioeconomic asset to the entire area.

AL MAJAZ MEDIA COMPLEX
Course | ARC 501 _ Fall 2017 Instructor | Christiano Luchetti Team | Mona Moussalem Area | Approx. 75,000 m2 (GFA) Location | Sharjah, UAE In response to the contrasting edges of the site, the E11 highway along the industrial area and the Al Majaz Waterfront on the other side, the project creates a link and a transition. This is achieved physically by an elevated circulation floor connecting all the functions of the project and visually by the dynamic movement of volumes.

DUBAI MARITIME MUSEUM
Course | ARC 402 _ Spring 2017 Instructor | Igor Peraza Team | Mona Moussalem Area | 2400 m2 (GFA) Location | Dubai, UAE Inspired by UAE boat-building techniques, the project uses materials that correspond to the site color palette, simulating the experience of walking underneath a boat. The exterior facade is wrapped with mesh cylinders inspired by the cylindrical fishing nets used around the area.

SYSTEMS OF SPATIAL PERCEPTION
Course | ARC 496 _ Spring 2018 Instructor | George Katodrytis Area | Undefined Location | Undefined Every Locus (space) is perceived in its own ways; this unique perceptual experience can be referred to as Genius Loci (spirit of place). Architects and designers in general continue to find ways how to represent ‘space’ using 2D, 3D and other modes of media, which have a great impact on its perception. Whether real or speculative, the method of representation creates the imaginary ‘other’ in the mind of the beholder. This study questions the notion of ‘static’ space and looks at employing new / specific modes of representation as a design tool + object / outcome, offering new possibilities of perception and physical entity.
