LAW & LEGISLATIVE DAY

During legislative years, Leadership Bismarck-Mandan spends a full day at the Capitol for Law & Legislature Day. The day kicked off with a presentation on “How Laws Are Created” by Tim Purdon, Partner at Robins Kaplan, LLP, and former U.S. Attorney for North Dakota. The class attended committee hearings on various topics including a proposal for a flat income tax. SCORE

Volunteer Marsha Lembke gave a tour of the State Capitol that included an overview of the legislative process. The class observed a House of Representatives debate on sports gambling in North Dakota.

In the afternoon, the class convened in the Supreme Court Chambers to speak with Chief Justice Jon Jensen and retiring Justice Gerald VandeWalle. The day concluded with a panel on “Grassroots Advocacy” including Johnathan Frye, Dakota Outright; Ellen Huber, City of Mandan; Janelle Moos, AARP North Dakota; and Chad Oban, North Dakota United.
