Welcome We are kicking off our summer catalog with our featured instructor:
LORETTA BENEDICT
Loretta is known for her drive to challenge and inspire her clients to living healthier lifestyles. She had the honor of leading a wide variety of unique individuals through movement-based classes, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all people to come as they are and to lovingly embrace their personal health and fitness journeys. Loretta has been nationally certified with ACE (American Council on Exercise) since 1991, specializing in active aging, and healthy lifestyle changes through core and functional fitness, advanced Pilates, deep stretching for flexibility, cardio circuit training, water fitness bootcamps, and Strong Nation by Zumba. She asked us to make sure you knew one thing - your wellness is a journey and she looks forward to getting you started on a path to lifelong wellness. Health is not all about the diet. Diets are temporary. Diets are frustrating. And 95% of diets fail. That’s why as a group fitness instructor, as well as, a certified personal trainer, she advocates lifestyle changes that will benefit your health and wellbeing for the rest of your life. Change can be scary and difficult, but it can also be the adventure of a lifetime. Living a healthy lifestyle reduces your risk of heart disease, cancer, diabetes and stroke, as well as, increases quality time with your loved ones and improves your quality of life. What better investment can you make? Your health affects you and everyone you know. Loretta lives by the quote: “Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.” ~ Maya Angelou

Jimmy Carter: A Life of Ambition and Purpose
To a country still reeling from the twin blows of Vietnam and Watergate, Jimmy Carter was seen as a breath of fresh air in 1976. Carter’s meteoric rise to the presidency is one of the greatest triumphs in American political history. His overwhelming defeat four years later is, arguably, the worst humiliation ever suffered by any president. While Carter ultimately failed politically amid inflation, gas lines, and the Iranian hostage crisis, he did succeed in tackling some of the nation’s most intractable challenges. This course will use lecture, video, and class discussion to reassess this misunderstood president and highly complex man. 6/15 - 6/22 (2xs) Tue 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM BSC NECE, Auditorium, Room 304 Instructor: Jason Matthews Fee: $45 Course ID: 7040014

Scenic Mackinac Island is just 4 square miles in size but is considered the “Jewel of the Great Lakes.” There are no cars allowed on the island, so we’ll be showing pictures taken from the Trolley tour and horse drawn carriage tour of sites like Fort Mackinac, historic Old Mill Creek, and the Soo Locks Boat tour. During the summer our plan is to travel to Voyageurs National Park in northern Minnesota and Isle Royale National Park in Michigan but accessible from Grand Portage, located in northeastern Minnesota. Both are accessible only by boat which should provide pictures of historical sites along with nature and wildlife. 8/9 Mon 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM BSC NECE, Room 101 Instructor: Mark Holkup Fee: $20 Course ID: 7070036

Bismarck State College Continuing Education & TrainND is following ND Smart Restart and CDC guidelines to help protect participants and our learning community. We encourage our participants to consider others as well as themselves and to take responsibility for their own health and safety amid the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic. Participant protocols for a safe return to campus include: - Wear a face mask - Social distancing - Stay home if you are feeling sick For more details on our safety protocol visit https://bsc.augusoft.net/ and click on for COVID-19 in the menu on the left. What is the refund/drop policy? Participants must contact the BSC Continuing Education office at least five (5) business days prior to the start of class for a refund at (701) 224-5600. If a participant cancels less than five (5) business days prior to the start of the class, the entire registration fee is forfeited. Full refunds are guaranteed if BSC Continuing Education cancels a course. A $20.00 processing fee will be deducted from the amount refunded. All approved refunds are made by mail unless paid with a credit card or electronic check in which case the card or account is credited. Please allow three (3) weeks to process refunds. There are no refunds if an online course has been accessed. OLLI Members do not incur a processing fee for refunds. Can a class be canceled because of low enrollment? If we have to cancel a class due to low enrollment, we will notify you as soon as possible before the class is scheduled to begin. You will receive a full refund of your tuition or transfer to another course of your choice, space permitting. In the event a class must be canceled, participants will be notified prior to the start of the class.
