WELCOME TO ENRICHMENT! In what seems like another lifetime, I used to work in a seasonal industry where a large number of visitors came in the summer from all over the country. One year, two of those visitors (from Florida) came to volunteer for a month or so, and we became fast friends. As their unofficial guide to the Bismarck area, I remember taking them around town one evening and showing them everything there is to do in this area. They were amazed - they couldn’t get over how much time Bismarck-Mandan residents spent outside and how much we embraced summer, despite the warm highs, and the sometimes unpredictable weather. That’s something that has stuck with me for the past 15 years or so because it is undeniably true. Almost everyone relishes their time in the warm summer temperatures and will find any excuse to spend every minute outdoors. From camping and fishing to golf and much more, summer is too precious to waste being bored. This summer in Enrichment, we have a variety of activities that you can try – activities that might just lead you on your next adventure. Relax with some Yoga on the Lawn or take a swing at golf! Try something new this summer, and as the movie Up encourages, remember that “Adventure is out there!” Alison Zarr Program Manager

Welding is a skill and an art! It’s a great field to work in as well, if you like to work with your hands and be creative. Welders have a wide variety of work, and there are very few products that we use today that haven’t been impacted by welding at some point – from the machines they are manufactured on to the vehicles they are delivered on. In this camp, you will learn the basics – welding safety, basic math concepts, materials and much more. You will hear from industry experts on how welding influences what they do every day, and will also take a tour of the Doosan-Bobcat facility here in Bismarck! Tools, supplies and protective gear are provided for your use while in camp. Lunch will also be provided daily and you will

receive a t-shirt for participating. Class registration closes the FRIDAY before class begins.

This class is sponsored in part by a grant through the Foundation of the Fabricators and Manufacturers Association, Inc.

BRIAN MATTHEWS Brian is a photographer based in the Bismarck/Mandan area. He teaches several courses ranging from introductory photography courses to advanced Photoshop techniques. He is always looking for the best way to communicate all things photography. He says that he is not a Nikon guy, or a Canon guy, or Sony guy, or (insert brand name here) guy. He is a Camera guy, and he loves anything to do with the camera. His teaching style is simple, straightforward, bold and fun. Brian’s greatest talents are explaining extremely complicated concepts and techniques in an easyto-understand manner. He also runs a local photography club called BisManPhoto.com and enjoys talking photography, holding photo walks, and even critiquing images for club members. He is known for always wearing his red Converse Chuck Taylor All-Star Sneakers. In addition, he says “Did I mention that I really love photography? I do. Really.” This summer, join Brian for Adobe Photoshop: Advanced Techniques and Portrait Retouching or Digital Photo 3: Intro to Photoshop!
