Welcome to Bismarck State College This registration guide will assist you with your transition to BSC.

It is divided into three sections:

Prepare for Registration Apply for Summer Financial Aid ACTION ITEMS If you have not completed the FAFSA 2016-2017, complete action items 1-4 If you have completed the FAFSA 2016-2017, complete action items 3 and 4. 1. Create a FSA ID.  Go to fsaid.ed.gov  Both student and parent need to create a username and password 2. Complete FAFSA 2016-2017 (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).  Go to fafsa.ed.gov 3. Complete the Summer Aid Request. 4. Watch for communications posted to your CampusConnection and BSC campus email. Financial Aid helps students and their families secure the resources necessary to fund a BSC education. Many types of aid are available through federal and state programs and through BSC. Be aware of the individual deadlines for any institutional, state, and/or outside scholarships. Federal Financial Aid is available for summer semester if you plan to be enrolled at least half-time (6 credits) and have remaining aid that was NOT used during the fall 2016 and spring 2017 semesters.

Prepare for Registration Apply for Fall Financial Aid ACTION ITEMS 1. Complete FAFSA 2017-2018 (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).  Go to fafsa.ed.gov 2. Watch for communications posted to your CampusConnection and BSC campus email.

Prepare for Registration Claim your NDUS Account ID and Password ACTION ITEMS 1. If you have not already done so, claim your NDUS account. Claim an NDUS Account What is My EMPLID? 2. You will need an NDUS account ID and password to log in to CampusConnection in order to register for classes, accept or decline aid, and pay tuition. You must go through a process called “Claim an NDUS Account”. This process will require you to:  Watch a video  Take a quiz  Enter your date of birth  Enter your EMPLID

Prepare for Registration Log in to CampusConnection ACTION ITEM 1. Log in to CampusConnection. Using your NDUS account ID and password, log in to CampusConnection, your one-stop shop for all student transactions. CampusConnection allows you to:  Register (add/drop) for classes  Accept/Decline financial aid  Pay tuition/fees  Search open and closed class sections  View academic advisor  View/Print class schedule  View grades  View unofficial transcripts  Order official transcripts  Manage your bio-demographic information

Prepare for Registration Apply for Summer Housing ACTION ITEMS 1. Apply for Summer On-Campus Housing.  Be prepared to pay $25 application fee via debit or credit card. 2. Contact Student & Residence Life (701-224-5464) to set up a meal plan. 3. Watch for communications via mail regarding housing regulations. Housing and meal plans are available for students. Those who wish to stay in the Residence Halls and apply for a meal plan must fill out the online Residence Hall application. In the Menu on CampusConnection:      

Prepare for Registration Apply for Fall Housing ACTION ITEM 1. Apply for Fall Housing. You will need to complete the Fall Housing application if you plan on living in the residence halls during the fall and spring semesters. The term of the contract for 2017-2018 is August 20, 2017 to May 11, 2018.

In the Menu on CampusConnection:      

Click “Self Service” Click “On-Campus Housing” Click “Applications” Choose appropriate housing application. Complete the application. Pay $25 application fee via debit or credit card. o One-time fee.

Prepare for Registration View your Holds, To Do List, and Communications ACTION ITEMS View and Resolve: 1. CampusConnection To Do List. 2. CampusConnection Holds. 3. CampusConnection Student Communications. Outstanding Holds and To Do’s listed on your CampusConnection Student Center could prevent you from registering for classes. Some holds are for information only. Communications are time sensitive materials from Financial Aid or Academic Records. These communications may require your immediate attention and others are for information only. Holds, To Do’s, and Communications may be applied by any North Dakota University System institution you have attended.

On your Student Center in CampusConnection:   

Select “details” to view who applied the hold. Select “more” to view what to do items should be completed. Select “details” to view your Student Communications.

Note: Some holds and to do’s prevent you from enrolling in classes. Click on the hold item and read the instructions to ensure that the hold will not prevent you from enrolling in classes.

Prepare for Registration Accept Financial Obligation Agreement ACTION ITEMS 1. Review the Summer Financial Obligation Agreement. 2. Accept the terms of the agreement. This agreement is listed as a hold on your CampusConnection. It is an understanding of the legal obligation to pay charges assessed to your Student Account. You will not be able to register for summer classes until this hold is accepted. To remove the hold, you will need to read and agree to the terms.

On your Student Center in CampusConnection:      

Under Finances>click “Financial Obligation Agreement” Select institution: Bismarck State College. Select effective term: 2017 Summer Click “Submit” After reading the terms, click “Accept” Click “OK” to return to Student Center.

Registration Review Degree Requirements Summer Requirements The Lineworker program degree requirements for summer are the following: LNWK 100 – Introduction to Climbing Techniques – 3 credits – 06/12/17 – 07/02/17 This course is designed for students to learn basic climbing techniques required to be a lineworker. LNWK 110 – Equipment Operations – 3 credits – 06/12/17 – 07/02/17 A mix of classroom training and outdoor lab work studying and applying the safe and efficient operation of digger derricks, skid steer loaders, backhoes, and trenchers. LNWK 104 – Introduction to Truck Driving Techniques – 1 credit – 06/12/17 – 07/23/17 This online course is designed to give Lineworker students instruction on specific truck driving information. This information will help prepare students to gain the North Dakota Department of Transportation Commercial Driver’s License Permit, as well as preparation for simulator training, behind the wheel training, pre-trip, and practical examination. **Due to the nature of this course (online) we encouraged you to bring your laptop. CDL Requirement A portion of your degree requirement is successfully completing the CDL training. Students who have a CDL will meet this requirement using the prior learning process, all others are required to complete LNWK 104 (summer), LNWK 108 and LNWK 113 (fall and spring).

On your Student Center in CampusConnection:      

Click “Enroll” Enter the class number and click “Enter” Verify class information and click “Next” Once all classes have been added to your shopping cart, click “Proceed to Step 2 of 3” Confirm the classes and click “Finish Enrolling” Make sure to review the registration status to ensure successful registration. o Registration Status Green  = successful registration Red X = Error – unable to add Review the message and proceed accordingly

Fall Registration will take place on a day within the three week summer session. Only those students who successfully pass the summer classes will receive a fall registration folder and attend fall registration. 12


Registration Review Class Schedule ACTION ITEM 1. Check that all classes appear on your class schedule. You are not officially enrolled in a class unless it appears on your class schedule. Your class schedule provides you with class location, instructor, start/end dates, and times. You will need your class schedule to purchase your textbooks.

“Room” indicates the class is offered online or the location on campus.

The “status” determines if you are “enrolled” or “dropped”.

Registration Review Dates & Deadlines ACTION ITEMS 1. Print the Dates & Deadlines Schedule. 2. Print the Academic Calendar. 3. Mark add, drop, and refund deadlines on your calendar. BSC provides all important dates and deadlines in two documents.  

Academic Calendar – lists school dates, such as textbook purchasing, tuition deadlines, and school breaks. Dates and Deadlines Schedule – lists classes by length as well as the add, drop, and withdraw deadlines. It also includes the last day to drop/withdraw for 100% tuition refund.

You are responsible for knowing the “Dates & Deadlines”, not abiding by these dates could not only impact your GPA, but your wallet as well!

After Registration Accept or Decline Summer Financial Aid ACTION ITEMS 1. Accept/Decline Summer Financial Aid. Look for your Financial Aid award communications, posted to your CampusConnection and BSC campus email. Your financial aid file needs to be completed before you can charge textbooks against your financial aid. We recommend that you do not borrow more than you need for your educational expenses. If you are unsure of how much to borrow, review the Summer Estimated Costs sheet located in your registration folder or contact Financial Aid at 701-224-5494 or bsc.financialaid@bismarckstate.edu for assistance.

After Registration Complete Entrance Loan Counseling and Loan Agreement (MPN) This only applies to students accepting loans for the first time. If you complete this for the summer semester, you will not have to complete this again for the fall semester.

ACTION ITEMS 1. Go to studentloans.gov and log in using your FSA ID and password. 2. Complete entrance counseling. 3. Complete loan agreement (MPN). Entrance Loan Counseling: Before receiving a student loan, borrowers must complete an entrance counseling session. This quick and easy interactive counseling session provides useful tips and tools to help you develop a budget for managing your educational expenses and helps you to understand your loan responsibilities. Loan Agreement (MPN): The Loan Agreement is a legal document in which you promise to repay your loan(s) and any accrued interest and fees to the U.S. Department of Education. It also explains the terms and conditions of your loan(s). Please note that your accepted Federal Student Loans will not disburse to your student account until these items are completed.

After Registration Pay Summer Tuition ACTION ITEMS 1. View your tuition and fees. 2. Pay summer tuition Student Finance starts accepting summer payments on May 8, 2017.  Pay online through CampusConnection For more payment options, you can:  Mail payment o BSC Student Finance Set up an authorized user PO Box 5587 Make a payment as an authorized user Bismarck, ND 58506  Pay in person: Student Finance Office, Schafer Hall, 1st floor  Pay by phone: o Last Name A – M: 701-224-5533 o Last Name N – Z: 701-224-5706 Tuition and fees on the student account are due by the first day of class. All other charges such as late fees, fines, room, board, etc. are due the date they are incurred. Late fees are assessed the 14th of every month on any balance 30 or more days past due. Log in to your BSC Email. Check for new communications. Setup your email on your mobile phone. Read the BSC Student Email policy.

BSC student email is the college’s official means of communication with students. You are expected to check your BSC email on a frequent and consistent basis in order to stay current with academic and financial communications as well as College events. After Registration Complete Medical Exam Form ACTION ITEMS 1. Student complete pages 1 and 2 of the Medical Exam Form. 2. Make an appointment with a licensed Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician of your choice.  NP or Physician must complete and sign bottom of page 3. 3. The BSC Student Handbook is more than just a policy manual, it includes information about campus resources, safety information, extracurricular activities, and more. The handbook lists offices you may need to go to for particular information and how to contact them.
