This elegant, yet simple to use product line is a profitable medium that allows you to offer a truly unique and inspiring art form to your studio offerings. The higher perceived value of glass in a studio setting adds intrigue and a new fired art to share with your customers. Since we first introduced glass fusing to our customers in 2005, we have worked to improve our knowledge and offerings so that we may provide the best in products and education for our customers. As a result, we have discovered that streamlining our product offerings helps to simplify the ordering and planning process. Thus, we are pleased to introduce a collection of Core, Specialty and Add-On Colors in our glass components. We kept our entire color palette in Slabs to allow those that are moving along steadily in the world of Warm Glass to carry the colors they love. These colors also allow for studios of all sizes to customize their glass offerings for their customers.

Designer ElementsTM
Designer Element jars feature various sized pieces of either OpalArt™, Spirit™, Crystal Opals, Aventurine, Streakies, or textured glass. Sold in 1.5 pound jars.
If you don’t want to carry every color available, these colors make up a good foundation for your studio. Blanks, Slabs, Blocks, Strips, Bits, Rods, Noodles, Stringers, Buffalo Chips and Frit are available for each of the core colors. Warm Glass colors are divided into two main categories, Transparent and Opalescent. Transparent allows enough light to pass through the glass so that you can see through it; whereas, Opalescent lets very little, if any light through it, rendering it virtually solid. A few substitutions have been made for certain colors to attain the best possible color match. Other Transparent and Opalescent core colors are on pages 6-7.

Slump Molds
These ceramic molds are designed specifically for slumping glass and have pre-drilled holes. A great feature of these molds is the breather holes on the sides of the molds that allow air to move around the bottom of the mold for even heating, as well as allow air to escape from the mold while the glass is slumping. Molds need to be primed with Primo Primer (Page 39) before firing to prevent the glass from sticking to the mold.

Bisque for Slumping

The most cost effective way to slump glass is to use the bisque that you already have in your studio. The following pages feature bisque shapes that we feel are great for slumping glass. This is by no means a definitive list. There are many more bisque shapes that can be used. When selecting bisque for slumping, keep in mind that the top of the bisque will be the bottom of the slumped piece, so make sure it is level to reduce the chance of wobbling. Also, the less steep the sides, the better. There are just two easy steps that must be performed before these shapes can be used for slumping. One, holes need to be drilled to allow air to escape from under the glass while it slumps. We recommend 3/16” or 1/8” holes. See page 38. Two, just like regular slump molds, the bisque needs to be primed to keep the glass from sticking to the mold. We recommend Primo Primer, which can be found on page 39.

Since our molds vary in size, you have several options for creating a glass project to fit your selected mold. One way is to cut down an existing blank. Another way is to place several pieces of glass together to create one larger base. Be sure to allow the glass to overlap where the pieces come together to allow for the creation of one large base during fusing. To easily determine the glass blank size you need for a mold, place your mold upside down on a piece of Thinfire paper and outline the mold onto the paper with a pencil or Sharpie. Be sure to stay within the lines when creating your custom blank.

Holes should be drilled in bisque to allow air to release while the glass is slumping. We recommend using a 1/8” or 3/16” Carbide Tip Drill Bit when drilling bisque for slumping. To avoid cracking or uneven slumping it is important to drill holes in any bisque piece that you use to slump glass. TO DRILL: Position the holes evenly on the surface of the bisque. The number of holes to drill depends on the size of the piece. Use the chart above as a guide while you’re starting out. Also, if the bisque piece has a foot, file the foot in several places to create an air channel to help air escape from under the glass. Remember to drill slowly.
