A LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT Dear Bishop Kelley Community,
Dear Patrons of Bishop Kelley High School:
In 1957, Bishop Eugene J. McGuinness spoke these words about the future Bishop Kelley High School:“Our love of God and country makes us want to give to the parents of the Tulsa area the fullest help in rearing their children to be useful citizens of the world, and children of God in time and eternity.” Those words still ring true in 2013 in the hallways of Bishop Kelley High School.
On behalf of the Advisory Council of Bishop Kelley High School and on behalf of the students, administration, faculty and staff of Bishop Kelley, I want to sincerely thank each of you for your generous donation of time, money, services and other gifts to Bishop Kelley. The contributions have been put to good use to expand and improve the spiritual and educational missions of Bishop Kelley High School.
With 825 students from 30 middle schools and 50 zip codes, Bishop Kelley High School is truly serving the needs of the people of Tulsa. Now in our 54th year, Bishop Kelley High School has succeeded because of the commitment of parents and teachers and because of the generosity of benefactors like you. Through endowments and building projects, we have been able to expand our campus and expand our curriculum and activities to better serve our students. The Catholic, Lasallian education we offer prepares students not only for college, although 98% of our students are going to college, but also for the triumphs and challenges of life.
The sustained and increasing contributions of our donors are necessary to fuel Bishop Kelley’s constant pursuit of excellence. Therefore, we respectfully ask that each of you continue to support Bishop Kelley with your contributions and that you consider increasing your assistance, if feasible. In addition to tuition assistance, there are numerous on-going projects at Bishop Kelley for which you can designate your donations.
Whether in the chapel, in the classroom, on the stage or on the field, our educational endeavors rely on your generous support to keep going. To be able to continue to offer this world class education open to a variety of students from all over the Tulsa area, we need you. This annual report is our proud acknowledgement of the generous parents, alumni, teachers, and friends of Bishop Kelley who each year keep us moving forward. We are so very proud of our students’ many achievements and the role that this school plays in guiding them to develop their God-given gifts. These include large projects, such as converting the HVAC systems to geothermal, or various small projects that improve the quality of education, our facilities or the aesthetics of the campus at Bishop Kelley. The Bishop Francis C. Kelley Legacy Society The Bishop Francis C. Kelley Society has been established as a way to recognize those who have made provisions in their estate plans for the future benefit of the Bishop Kelley Endowment Trust. Proceeds from the Endowment will ensure that the quality education available at Bishop Kelley will be available for generations to come. Please consider becoming a member of The Bishop Francis C. Kelley Society. A will bequest, adding a simple codicil to your existing will, a trust or a gift annuity is all it takes. Future generations will admire your commitment and generosity, and, as God promises, the blessings you give will be returned to you a hundredfold.

CREATING THE LEGACY OF A BISHOP KELLEY EDUCATION EDUCATION AT BISHOP KELLEY HAS BEEN A COMMUNITY EFFORT SINCE 1960.
S
am and Becky Rhoades are longtime supporters of Bishop Kelley High School, having sent three sons through the school in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. They, along with at least two other Bishop Kelley families, recently put in place planned gifts or bequests that will benefit BKHS students years to come. “Becky and I chose to educate our three sons at Bishop Kelley High School and feel they received a high quality education in the classroom and, just as importantly, they had their spiritual needs met through retreats, daily Mass on campus, and interaction with priests, brothers, and campus ministers,” Sam Rhoades said. Rhoades said he encourages others with ties to BK to put planned gifts in place for
the school that was founded in 1960 so that it can thrive and prosper for another 53 years and beyond. “With education costs continuing to rise, we feel fortunate to share some of our resources and compassion for Catholic education with future generation of Kelley students by putting this planned gift in place,” he said. Sam, a Tulsa native, and Becky, a Belleville, IL native, sent sons Jamie ’93, Chris ’98 and Greg ’02 through BK, with all three having attended elementary school at St. Mary’s. Although it’s been more than 10 years since their youngest son graduated from Kelley, the couple continues to be staunch supporters of the school and hope to see their grandchildren attend BKHS in future years.

TOD – this is a designation used for example on securities, automobiles, and real estate so that it is transferred on death (TOD) to Bishop Kelley. To designate BKHS as a beneficiary, a donor would contact their stockbroker or investment company, their state’s motor vehicle department, or their attorney to prepare a deed.
Lead Interest – this applies to a charitable gift from a trust, while the donor is living or at death, where income is first payable to BKHS, for a period of years, then the balance of the trust assets would revert back to the donor or is paid to the donor’s family. Charitable Gift Annuity – this is a contract between a charity and the donor(s). The donor(s) receives income for one or two lives, after which the remaining balance of the annuity becomes available for the use of the charity. This is a more complex process requiring a donor to review a gift annuity illustration for payout rates and income, as well as signing an annuity contract and gifting the cash or appreciated asset to the non-profit. Consult your insurance company or retirement plan administrator if this option best fits your plans: Beneficiary Designations – including BKHS as a beneficiary on retirement accounts (401(k), 403(b), pension plans, etc…), life insurance policies, annuity contracts, and beneficial deeds is a simple way to give to support the school upon one’s death. You may either designate a percentage or a specific dollar amount to BKHS. To designate, a donor would contact their retirement plan administrator or obtain a change of beneficiary form from the insurance company and complete a new beneficiary designation form with the changes.
