Situated along the Potomac River, Georgetown is a historic neighborhood within the larger Washington, D.C. region. Founded in 1751, the port of Georgetown predated the establishment of the federal district and the City of Washington, and has since emerged as one of the foremost entertainment districts in northwest D.C.

The beauty of Georgetown’s cobblestone sidewalks, grand homes, and peaceful C&O Canal are only part of the draw to this tree-lined historic neighborhood. As home to some of the city’s top shops, tastiest restaurants, and most luxurious hotels, Georgetown is a favorite of tourists and locals.

Georgetown is also home to the main campus of Georgetown University and features some of the oldest, unchanged buildings in D.C. throughout its city grid, including Dumbarton House and the Old Stone House. While carefully maintaining its foundational structures, character, and spirit, Georgetown is thriving in it’s present state as a home to many politicians and lobbyists, in addition to the embassies of Cameroon, France, Kosovo, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Mongolia, Sweden, Thailand, Ukraine, and Venezuela. Thus, this iconic, American district has evolved into a highly international and commercial destination, helping to define Washington D.C.’s future.
