Tiny Acts of Love Lucy Lawrie
Surviving motherhood? It’s all about having the right support network. Lawyer Cassie has a new baby, a husband who converses mainly through jokes, a best friend on the other side of the world, and a taskforce of Babycraft mums who make her feel she has about as much maternal aptitude as a jellyfish. Husband Jonathan dismisses Cassie’s maternal anxieties, but is he really paying attention to his struggling wife? He’s started sleep talking and it seems there’s more on his mind than he’s letting on. Then sexy, swaggering ex-boyfriend Malkie saunters into Cassie’s life again. Unlike Jonathan, he ‘gets’ her. He’d like to get her into bed again, too… And on top of all her emotional turmoil, she also finds herself advising a funeral director on ghost protocol and becomes involved in an act of hotel spa fraud, never mind hiding cans of wasp spray all over the house to deal with the stalker who seems to be lurking everywhere she looks. Marriage and motherhood isn’t the fairytale Cassie thought it would be. Will her strange new world fall apart around her or will tiny acts of love be enough to get her through? Funny, perceptive and real, Tiny Acts of Love portrays the rawness of motherhood, the flipside of love and the powerful lure of paths not taken.

Lucy Lawrie worked as a lawyer for several years, specialising in employment and pensions law. Then, on maternity leave, she unearthed a primary two homework book in which she’d stated, in very wobbly handwriting: ‘I want to be an AUTHOR when I grow up.’ So, to keep her six-year-old self happy, she wrote her first novel.

What Lot’s Wife Saw Ioanna Bourazopoulou It’s been twenty-five years since the Overflow flooded Southern Europe, drowning Rome, Vienna and Istanbul, and turning Paris into a major port. At the Dead Sea, the earth has opened up to reveal a strange violet salt to which the world has become addicted, and a colony has been established by the mysterious Consortium of Seventy-Five to control the supply. Run by murderers, fugitives and liars, the Colony is a haven to those fleeing Europe – especially the privileged “Purple Stars”. But when the governor of the Colony dies suddenly and mysteriously, the six officials turn on each other, sparking a terrifying chain of events which threatens the very existence of the Colony. In Paris, Phileas Book, the greatest crossword compiler of his age and creator of the Epistleword, is recruited by the sinister Consortium. Presented with the epistolary confessions of the six, he is ordered to sift truth from lies to find out who killed the unpopular Governor Bera. But as Phileas starts to unravel the mystery, he begins to realise that these are no ordinary letters and that nothing less than the course of human history is at stake. What Lot’s Wife Saw is an astonishing and beautifully written novel about the fear, sin and guilt that lurks in the dark corridors of the human conscience. It is a story on an epic scale about betrayal, sacrifice and unconditional love, and a darkly humorous parable recalling the Biblical tales of God’s terrible rage and the fate that befell those who suffered it. But, above all, it is an enthralling vision of a nightmarish world which only the power of humanity can change. “A dazzling, hybrid crime novel that takes readers on an extraordinary journey of the imagination.” Mrs Peabody Investigates “Both bold and more than a little bonkers … It’s an inspired, wonderfully claustrophobic way to structure a novel.” SFX Magazine (4/5 Stars) “This is an extremely clever story … utterly insane in its concept in the best way possible, it will have you tied up in the most amazing literary knots.” Liz Loves Books

The Shian Quest Trilogy Andrew Symon The Shian has always had magycks. Some had a little more. Charms, hexes, healing – all sorts. The magycks became much stronger when the destiny stone came home – it even opened up the Shian square under Edinburgh Castle once more. Little wonder that the Shian celebrated; the Stone had been gone for hundreds of years, you see. That’s hundreds of years in human time and Shian time; they’re not always the same. Book 1 – Jack Shian and the King’s Chalice: Jack’s family are Shian, ‘otherworld’ creatures who have crept in and out of human affairs throughout history. And Jack’s family are special: working for the Shian Congress, they have been watching over the Stone of Destiny – one of the great Shian treasures – for seven hundred years. Its homecoming has energised the dormant Shian folk, giving renewed strength to their ancient powers and gifts. However, the prospect of the Stone’s power causes different factions to quarrel as they did centuries ago, and Jack’s parents disappear separately, under mysterious circumstances. Book 2 – Jack Shian and the Mapa Mundi: Trouble is brewing, the Kildashie have arrived on the scene. Being sworn enemies of the Brashat should make them allies of the Shian Congress – only something’s not right. Jack and his Grandpa Sandy go to seek the advice of the enchantress Tamlina, only to find her dying after battling with the evil ‘Grey’. Her dying words are to seek the Mapa Mundi – the great Shian treasure, which shows believers their true path. Book 3 – Jack Shian and the Destiny Stone: Jack Shian has recovered the Mapa Mundi and rescued his father Phineas from the clutches of the ‘Grey’ enchantress – but he is still exiled with his family off the west coast of Scotland. The Unseelie alliance of evil Kildashie, deadly Thanatos and Red Caps now controls most of the Shian areas in Scotland. If they succeed in their plan to take the Stone of Destiny and the King’s Chalice from Edinburgh castle, both Shian and human worlds will suffer an eternal winter.

Library Cat
The Observations of a Thinking Cat
Alex Howard For the last year, Library Cat – the resident cat of Edinburgh University Library – has been watching. As a Human, you may not feel that watching is a particularly extraordinary thing for a cat to do. But Library Cat is different. Because not only was Library Cat watching, he was also thinking. Library Cat is a thinking cat.Thinking cats are rare. Look closely, though, and maybe you’ll spot one… The canny glint to the eye? The arched, disdainful whiskers? The unrelenting interest in books and piles of paper? That’s a thinking cat! This is a story about Library Cat, about his favourite turquoise chair in the library and his favourite food (bacon-rind). But, more importantly, this is a story about Library Cat’s thoughts and his own search for completeness in this fractured world. And it’s about us Humans, too.You see, with his black and white head bobbing a foot off the ground, Library Cat has seen us Humans from a very different angle… …and he’s seen it all; from shame to sandwiches, from litter to love, from aeroplanes to Baby Prince George. And he has some news: he thinks us Humans have it all wrong. And he’s going to show us why. LIBRARY CAT is a funny, witty and irreverent look at the world, seen through the unusually observant eyes of Edinburgh University Library’s resident cat.
