FIRST STEP September Newsletter

Fall is coming! Mornings can be chilly, so please send a jacket with your child for outdoor playtime. Also, as we approach cold/flu/ sniffles season in the time of Covid, we appreciate your continued mindfulness in deciding when to keep your children home to ensure the health and safety of all! Check KKTV Channel 11 for any weather related closures.

LABOR DAY

A New School Year!

Don’t forget: NO SCHOOL on Monday 9/7/2020.

We are so happy to see you back at preschool—and to our new families, a warm welcome to First Step! We have had a great start to our year, with many smiles and lots of laughter filling our classrooms and play spaces. Our theme for August was “ All About Me”, and we enjoyed getting to know a little more about our students and their families. Our letter of the month was A. We had serious fun with apples throughout all our subjects! We learned the short “a” sound, sang apple related songs, used our senses to taste and smell apples, and talked about whole and half —and then made apple prints with our halves. Ask your child which apple activity was their favorite! September’s theme is the four seasons, with special focus on the letter S and the number 7.

Butter Braids Our one and only fundraiser this year is just around the corner! Watch for information coming home with your child soon. We will sell from 9/28-10/23, with delivery set for 11/03—in time for holiday entertaining. Convenient online ordering available. Help us meet our minimum goal of 100 items sold! Funds raised will be used to purchase new items for the playground.

The individual pencil boxes and play doughs are working well, and we are so grateful for the wonderful supplies you sent our way. Thanks also to those of you who are helping us raise funds via the King Soopers Community Rewards program and Safeway fundraising cards. Please ask us how to get signed up for these valuable programs if you are not already!

September Spotlight: Our New Teacher Hello, First Step families! I am Beth Garrison-Kemp, one of your newest teachers. I have years of experience with children, but most recently they have been at home with my own three daughters. With two now in college and one in high school, I am ready and excited to jump back into work!

Some of you may have already heard from your children about Ms. Beth and Ms. Bethany. They are our new teachers, joining Ms. Crystal and Ms. Kristen this year. Watch our newsletter spotlight and bulletin board for their bios! Finally, we want to highlight our August and September birthdays! Happy Birthday to: Caleb

Hannah Your teachers at First Step Preschool hope all your birthday wishes come true!

In addition to decades of volunteer work in my children’s schools and Sunday School classes, my formal educational background is in psychology (B.A.) and social work, with special research emphasis on cognitive development in children ages 4-7. I am thrilled to be back in the classroom with your children! I love watching their curiosity guide their work and play, and the enthusiasm with which they approach their learning is inspiring! Every day brings something new in early childhood, and I feel blessed to have the opportunity to help guide them in their academic, social and emotional development. I am looking forward to a great year!
