The Bernards: The Bernards: Meet A Family Centered Life
By Megan Scott, Resident since 2010
of Bernard family and Kim Lind Photography
Larry and Sally Bernard have called Blackhawk home for 30 years. They love the small town ambiance and the family-centered environment it provides. Both Larry and Sally are blessed that their son and daughter, along with their 6 grandchildren also live in Danville. The couple have been married an admirable 50 years. They met on a blind date at a drive-in movie theater and have been together ever since.
Larry has lived in the East Bay his entire life and has seen vast changes and growth over the years. His interest and love of his local surroundings led him to a career as a real estate agent. “I love having the opportunity to assist people in finding homes where they will create cherished memories for years to come,” says Larry.
Sally was born in Cuba and immigrated to the United States in the 1960s. “I came to the United States not knowing any English, but quickly gained a fondness for the language and American culture. I’m so appreciative to my wonderful teachers for their encouragement and patience while I learned to master the language,” says Sally. Her love of language led Sally to a career as an interpreter. As a SpanishEnglish interpreter, Sally helps people breakdown any communication barriers while ensuring they understand and communicate correctly.
Among their many passions, family and especially grandchildren top the list. “No doubt, the light of our lives are our six grandchildren. Asher (12), Graeme (11), Grey (11), January (10), Gannon (8) and Ireland (5). We enjoy spending time at the motocross track watching Asher, Graeme, and Grey race and compete. If not at the motocross tracks, you can find us cheering on Gannon at one of his soccer or baseball games. We also absolutely love watching our oldest granddaughter,
January, singing in local festivals and theater performances. January was recently given the great honor of singing the National Anthem at the Danville Vietnam Veterans Hall. We love volunteering in Ireland’s local co-op classroom, which gives us the opportunity to make a valuable and meaningful connection with our youngest grandchild,” says Sally.
In addition, Larry is a classic car enthusiast. You can spot Larry driving his classic yellow 1955 Chevy truck around the community.
Larry and Sally say they are incredibly grateful to be creating meaningful memories in Blackhawk, “The wonderful people, small town ambience, and family centered environment are what we cherish about living here.”
