Spring Bike Rides

The sound of my bicycle bell is a sign that spring is finally here! As I bike down the hilly path, the soft breeze brushing my face feels just right. And of course, buds, flowers, colors, birds chirping and longer days are here too. I am ready to ditch the cold and rain and embrace the warm and dry weather.
I am out biking on the Blackhawk Road with beautiful plum and cherry blossom trees lining it, pretty yellow mustard flowers and lavender purple flowers popping on the small hills; and the specter of the mighty Mt. Diablo (Devil Mountain) rising in the distance somehow seems to be challenging me. It’s a pretty easy ride up to the parking lot before the tennis courts. But when the Blackhawk road changes into Diablo road at Mt. Diablo Scenic Blvd., it’s a totally different story with me panting and ready to quit and turn around.
The 12-mile Blackhawk loop with top elevation of 800 feet is a favorite among cyclists. Biking and passing along lush Blackhawk and Diablo country clubs, crossing beautiful ranches and horse stables along the Diablo Road makes the trail very scenic, interesting and a must do.
Another of my favorite trails is the Iron Horse trail, just a few minutes from us. I see here a mix of cyclists, walkers, runners and joggers. In Danville, this trail runs directly behind houses and shops in downtown area. On weekends, my family and I ride up to Danville Harvest, our favorite place for lunch or bike over to farmers’ market to enjoy the crepes at one of the stalls.
I am sure this is inspiration enough for you readers to go out and ride. I would love to hear about your favorite bike trails!
