Artwork is essential to finish any room design. A perfect piece of artwork can tie a whole room together. But the task of choosing the right artwork for the space and hanging it can get hard. Here are a few tips to get you started.

Choosing the Artwork

Art can be anything, from an original painting to a sculptural object. The key is to make sure that the art works with the color scheme of the space. If you have a favorite piece of art, you can use that as inspiration and starting point for your scheme. One big piece of art or a grouping of multiple smaller ones give the best effect.

Placing the Artwork

The center of your artwork should almost always be at eye-level, around 57-60” above the floor, in order to create the best viewing experience. This works great for open wall spaces and above lowlevel furniture. But for taller furniture pieces or mantle, mount the art around 4-6” from the top. And it is aesthetically pleasing if the width of the art work is around 2/3rd the width of the sofa or table above which it is mounted.

Lighting the Artwork

Lighting your artwork is crucial to how a piece of art is viewed and there are many ways to do so. UV radiation and heat can damage a painting, so opt for LED lights. The beam should cover the artwork and it should be bright enough to see the colors and textures. As a guideline, lighting should be angled at 30˚ to reduce glare. Reduce this angle if the art has interesting textures.
