On behalf of the more than 3,400 Firefighters, Paramedics, Dispatchers, Inspectors, and Pilots of United Firefighters of Los Angeles City, IAFF Local 112 (UFLAC), I am honored to present the Seventh Annual Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) Year in Review. This publication tells the story of our members in images taken throughout the year as UFLAC members responded to approximately 462,000 emergency calls for service in the City of Los Angeles. The 2019 wildfire season continued the unfortunate trend of property damage, loss of life, and mass evacuations as seen in recent years throughout California. Our Firefighters not only responded to significant incidents such as the Getty, Saddle Ridge, and Pacific Palisades fires in our local communities, but they also provided support to our surrounding region, including at the Ridgecrest earthquake in Kern County and the Easy Fire in Ventura County. UFLAC’s mission is to lead the way to protect and advocate for the health, safety, working conditions, wages, and benefits of our members and their families. Last year, we were proud to advance that effort with the creation of the United Firefighters of Los Angeles City Fire Foundation, a nonprofit organization that provides financial support to Firefighters and their immediate families who suffer economic hardship as a result of illness, injury, or death in addition to offering educational assistance to children of fallen Firefighters. This book is dedicated to our rank and file members of the LAFD who risk their lives each and every day while responding to hundreds of thousands of emergency calls for service in one of the busiest fire departments in the country. UFLAC is honored to represent the most exceptional First Responders in the nation here in the City of Los Angeles. In Appreciation,
Captain II Freddy Escobar President United Firefighters of Los Angeles City International Association of Fire Fighters, Local 112

COMMUNITY ST. BALDRICK’S FOUNDATION FUNDRAISER
MDA FILL THE BOOT CAMPAIGN
Scores of caring community members and First Responders, including LAFD Fire Chief Ralph Terrazas and LAPD Police Chief Michael Moore, gathered at Fire Station 89 in North Hollywood for the 17th Annual St. Baldrick's Foundation Fundraiser to raise awareness and funds to help conquer childhood cancer. This incredible event organized by LAFD Captain Danny Wu and LAPD Lieutenant Greg Doyle included a pancake breakfast, blood and bone marrow registration, fire and police apparatus displays, and head shaving stations to support childhood cancer research.
The LAFD partnered with UFLAC for the 14th Annual MDA Fill the Boot Campaign to benefit Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) Los Angeles. For more than 60 years, MDA and the IAFF have been working together to help conquer Muscular Dystrophy and other related life-threatening diseases in kids and adults. More than $116,000 was collected to help local kids and adults living with muscle debilitating diseases live longer and grow stronger. Funds raised build on decades of muscle disease research progress, helping push science in the search for treatments and cures. The dollars raised also support MDA’s life-enhancing programs, including state-of-the-art clinics and support groups as well as the Adventure Camp where kids with muscle disease can enjoy summer camp.

HOPE FOR FIREFIGHTERS
FOUNDATION GOLF TOURNEY
SPARK OF LOVE TOY DRIVE
Several Downtown businesses created the Hope for Firefighters event in 1998 as a tribute to our fallen Firefighters and it has become the Los Angeles Firemen's Relief Association's Widows, Orphans, and Disabled Firemen’s Fund’s largest annual fundraiser. Every year, Hope for Firefighters features live music, delicious meals prepared by fire stations throughout the City, merchandise booths, and exciting Firefighter Muster games where sponsored teams compete for trophies and prizes in events like the bucket brigade, Firefighter suit-up, and an old-fashioned hose pull contest.
On November 4th, UFLAC hosted its first ever golf tournament to support the newly created nonprofit organization, the UFLAC Fire Foundation. Thanks to the generous support from individuals and corporate sponsors, more than $150,000 was raised that will directly go to aid Los Angeles City Firefighters and their families who are experiencing hardships as a result of illness, injury, or Line of Duty Death. In addition, the UFLAC Fire Foundation will also provide educational assistance to the children of fallen Firefighters.
ABC7 and local Firefighters teamed up once again to collect new, unwrapped toys and sports equipment for underserved children and teens in Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Orange, Ventura and Riverside counties. The annual Stuff-A-Bus event was held at the Topanga Westfield Shopping Center in Canoga Park for 14 hours and collected thousands of toys to be distributed locally throughout the Holiday Season.
