Blackpool Sixth - Building futures
Celebrating Success For a third successive year, Blackpool Sixth students and staff are celebrating our best ever set of A level and BTEC Level 3 results against a backdrop of curriculum reforms and tougher qualifications. The overall pass rate rose to 99.6% and the number of students receiving the highest possible grades increased significantly once again. In A level subjects well over half of students’ grades were high grades (A*, A or B) and in BTEC over 85% of grades were distinction stars. Blackpool Sixth Principal, Jill Gray, commented, “We are delighted with this wonderful set of results which reflects the dedication and hard work of our students and staff. Results like these mean that our students will be able to progress to their chosen next step with an excellent foundation for future success. We are extremely proud of their achievements.”
High flyers - Starred success Charlie Warburton, formerly of Cardinal Allen Catholic High School achieved 4 A* grades in A Level Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry and Physics. Charlie will be progressing to Warwick University to study maths. Charlie said: “Studying at Blackpool Sixth was a great experience both to meet new people and learn new things.”
Former Hodgson Academy student Emily Townley achieved 3 A* grades in A Level Biology, Chemistry and Maths. Emily will be studying biological sciences at Durham University. Emily said she was grateful for the ‘great support’ she had received from Blackpool Sixth.
Lauren Atha formerly of Highfield Leadership Academy achieved straight A*s in A Level Biology, Chemistry and Maths.
Lauren is going to University of Chester to study biochemistry.
Chloe Adshead formerly of Aspire Academy gained A* grades in classical civilisation, English language and English literature. Chloe will read English literature at Lancaster University.
Former Cardinal Allen Catholic High School pupil Alexander Plant gained A* grades in his business studies, economics and statistics A levels. Alexander is going to Durham University to study finance.
Mainthan Suriyakumaran formerly of AKS achieved straight A*s in A Level Maths, Further Maths and Physics.
Mainthan is going to study mathematics at Durham University in September.
A Level success Aisling Bevan
formerly of Millfield Science and Performing Arts College achieved 3 A grades in A Level Biology, Chemistry and Classical Civilisation. Aisling has secured a place at Durham University studying archaeology.
Jacob Hall achieved
A* grades in A Level Geography, Law and his EPQ as well as an A in Maths. Jacob, formerly of St Mary’s Catholic Academy, has secured a place to read law at Bristol University.
Former St George’s School pupil Bruce Reynolds gained an A* in A Level Law and two A Level A grades in business studies and economics. Bruce is going to Lancaster university to study law.
Former Montgomery High School student Zakk Haslam is going to study graphic design at Huddersfield University. Zakk got an A in art (graphic design) and two B grades in art and information and communication technology.
Former Hodgson Academy student
Sam Davies
achieved an A* in A Level Chemistry, an A in A Level Biology and an A in A Level Geography. Sam will now study medicine at Liverpool University.
Joanna Fawl formerly
of Highfield Leadership Academy achieved a clean sweep of A grades in A Level Maths, French and Classical Civilisation. Joanna will now progress to study French and mathematics at Lancaster University.
Karol Mikula
achieved an A* in A Level Maths for Further Maths, an A in Further Maths and a B in Statistics. Karol, formerly of Unity Academy, is going to study mathematics at university.
BTEC success Georgina, Sabrina and Charlotte Leahy Triplets Charlotte, Sabrina and Georgina Leahy all achieved triple distinction star in their Level 3 BTEC Public Services course. The three sisters all formerly from Aspire Academy are soon to begin careers in the RAF.

Sophie Morrison
achieved a Distinction Star in BTEC Level 3 Musical Theatre, BTEC Level 3 Dance and double Distinction Star in BTEC Level 3 Performing Arts. Sophie formerly of Hodgson Academy will be studying musical theatre at The University of Chester. Former Montgomery High School student Luke Priestly got a Distinction Star in BTEC Level 3 Medical Science and a triple Distinction Star in Sport (Performance & Excellence.) Luke is going to the University of Central Lancashire to study sports therapy.
Former Aspire Academy student Liam McClean achieved triple Distinction Star in BTEC Level 3 Engineering. Liam has secured a role as an engineering assistant at BAE Systems. Liam said: ‘Blackpool Sixth has given me great opportunities for my future.’
Lucy Churchill who
won our student award for ‘Greatest Progress at Blackpool Sixth’ achieved a triple Distinction Star in BTEC Level 3 Travel & Tourism. Lucy, formerly of Baines School will study events management at Manchester Metropolitan University.
Mixed Programme Combined programme success Former Montgomery High school pupil Cobi Barber achieved a B grade in A Level Drama and Theatre Studies, a C grade in A Level History and a Distinction Star in BTEC Level 3 Musical Theatre. Cobi will now progress to The Hammond School in Chester to study musical theatre.

St Mary’s Academy achieved double Distinction Star in BTEC Level 3 Applied Science, a B grade in A Level Psychology and an A* in her EPQ. Hannah secured her place at Lincoln University to study psychology with clinical psychology.
A grades in A Level Business and A Level Economics as well as a Distinction Star in IT. Benjamin formerly of Montgomery High school praised Blackpool Sixth for its ‘great staff, great resources and calm environment.’ Benjamin is going to Lancaster University to study accounting and finance.
formerly of LSA Technology and Performing Arts College achieved double Distinction Star in BTEC Level 3 Fashion and Clothing, and an A in A Level Media Studies. Hannah has an offer to study creative direction at the prestigious University of the Arts, London.
Apprenticeships Destination apprenticeship Seven Blackpool Sixth students secured highly competitive and coveted apprenticeship places with the multinational aerospace and defence giant. All the students studied business or IT related courses at Blackpool Sixth.
Congratulations to former Cardinal Allen Catholic High School student Josh Worrall who got two A* grades in economics and religion, ethics and philosophy and a C in maths. Josh is due to start a higher apprenticeship in business management with BAE Systems.
Chloe Purcell formerly of South Shore Academy gained a B in A Level Economics, a C in A Level Law and a Distinction Star in BTEC business. Chloe is starting an apprenticeship in human resources management with the global company, Unilever, in September. Former St Aidan’s Church of England High School pupil Cara Bayliss achieved an A grade in A Level Economics and B grades in her classical civilisation and maths A levels. Cara will be starting her training at BAE Systems in software engineering.
Results and baby joy Niamh Way-Grime had baby Charlie just a week after taking her final A level exam at Blackpool Sixth and has enjoyed amazing success with her results. Niamh achieved two B grades in A Level Film Studies and A Level Media Studies and a C in A Level English Language. After taking a gap year Niamh plans to do a teaching degree. Niamh said “The tutors are so supportive and push you to your best. I loved everything about Blackpool Sixth.”
Starred social sciences Former St Bede’s Catholic High School pupil Imogen Scarr (pictured centre) got A* grades in both her social science subject, A Level Psychology and A Level Sociology and a B in A Level Biology. Imogen who is going to study psychology at King’s College London said: “I enjoyed the freedom of having to choose my own subjects and the flexibility of the courses. I loved the teachers and the passion and motivation they have to get us to the next level.”
GCSE success
Joseph Piper formerly of Cardinal Allen Catholic High School gained a B grade in GCSE English. Joseph, who has been supported with his dyslexia during his time at Blackpool Sixth, is hoping to join the police after gaining a triple Distinction Star in his BTEC Public Services course.
Former Baines School student Gabrielle Jones gained a C in GCSE Maths. Gabrielle will progress onto level 3 and study BTEC Sport (Performance & Excellence) at Blackpool Sixth.
Tom Godwin celebrated securing his place at university by getting a C in GCSE English. Tom, formerly of LSA Technology and Performing Arts College is off to Cardiff Metropolitan University to study sports science after getting a triple Distinction Star in sports (performance and excellence).
